I haven't been DJing a lot lately, but I put together a DJ Screw style slow mix. It's all vinyl 45s, all played back at 33. I'm super into DJ Screw, so I can't tell if it's weird or not. Sounds normal to me!

Does anybody else here use and record out of ITCH? I had to amplify the resulting audio a LOT to get it to an acceptable level (and everything was turned up in ITCH), I'm wondering if that's a common thing?

I don't record within the program, but piping Itch into Pro Tools it comes out very quiet. Not quiet enough to be a problem, but I definitely needed to boost the gain quite a bit in PT. The great thing though is that the VCI has an incredible signal/noise ratio, so it's really no problem to just boost the gain.

Nice work, I am enjoying the LTLY mix! I play some similar things, when you get into the tech-house and UK bass like B-Ju and GoldFFinch. Do you like Jacques Greene? He would fit into your sets well I think!

I have some mixes up here, leaning more to UK Bass than Ambient and Electronica:

Just had my first real "digital" gig after making the switch from vinyl. I was very nervous since I'd literally never done a gig without records before, but everything seemed to go just fine. It was an incredible sound system, and they let me start a bit early so I had a full 90 minutes at the party. The highlight for me was realizing that Thugfucker was in the audience, so I snuck on one of his tunes. :-)

I recognized a lot of artists and tracks so I listened to this. It didn't really pull me in or captivate me at all, it felt more like a playlist than a DJ mix, didn't really seem to go anywhere or have any interesting build ups or drops. It felt like many of the songs didn't really vibe well with each other. Sometimes dramatic changes in a set can be interesting, sometimes not. For example, the change from Addison Groove - Bad Things to GoldFFinch - Belle didn't sit right with me.

I've been getting into bass music lately, and know how hard it can be to mix this style vs other genres.

Sorry I can't think of much else to say without getting into a transition by transition breakdown. If anything, I'd try to work on the "feel"/flow of your mixes. It shouldn't be a linear progression from A to B, but it also shouldnt be up and down and all over the place without much coherency. Hope this helps!

I agree with this. Tons of great great songs on this tracklist, but the mix is a bit disjointed. Some of the transitions are really great, like going into "Faint" I liked that a lot. But the energy level seems to hop up and down a little too drastically, there's no overall drive and build to the mix. For example, the Addison Groove is a heavy banger, but then the transition into Goldffinch - Belle (which is an awesome tune) just drops the energy a ton. Then the XXXY is high energy again, then the Disclosure brings it down again.

I struggle with this too, playing Bass music. It's tough to figure out how to build an overall direction and keep the energy consistent

Nice one! Love the tunes on this. Perfect ending, love that Jacques Greene, and the mix into is lovely. Some of the levels were a bit jarring though, make sure to check how loud the tune you're dropping is against the one playing. There's a couple spots, but the big one is Boddika - Mercy into Break the Pattern, the volume on Break the pattern is much louder! Other than that, nice work, really dig this one

Got to play the side room with some legends earlier this month, Hatcha and Starkey in the main room, was a real treat to be on the bill. Got to play heavier Grime and UK Funky, real syncopated stuff that doesn't usually fly so well in SF. Lots of fresh future sounds, tried to keep it up tempo to balance the heavy dubstep on the other side. Dig!
