Sounds like guns n roses, great white, thin lizzy, early Aerosmith

Honestly I hear the Japanese take on a lot of different styles of music that is usually thought of as American and think they actually did it better.

Absolutely, these are some of my fav bands, they have their own unique take for sure. I love Thin Lizzy and those bands, but this stuff reminds me of some other stuff. I hear some Boston in there for example, and Journey. Looking to scratch a musical itch I guess. Since this stuff has either synth or a layered emotional orchestration to go with the hard rock etc, or I guess just a uniquely cool to me mix of songwriting for hard rock.

Also, know any classic rock songs that do a bass line thing like that first song, Like A Fire? I'm sure that style of emotional rock song with a bass line in focus like that is a thing I've heard, but I can't think of one offhand.

I got into Warren Zevon recently and I've pretty quickly gotten through most of his discography. Is there anyone else that blended weird, kind of literary lyrics with that sort of honkey-tonk, layered instrumentation you can dance to?

Also, been dipping my toes into some 1970-1980 Japanese jazz fusion stuff like Ryuichi Sakamoto, Kazumi Watanabe and Shigeharu Mukai. What else is out there? Who should I check out?

Give 3D Country by Geese a go. It’s a 2023 album but the singer gives huge Zevon vibes. Great album

I hear a bit of Chris Squire there. Yes didn't do many pure love songs, but a few examples with prominent bass:

- Beyond and Before
- Sweet Dreams
- Roundabout

Roundabout and Yoshiki Fukuyama were both featured in anime, so that's cool too. Thanks.

"I never met a monster I didn't like"

I'm looking for more that sounds like this song. Male mournful vocals with longer sustained notes ?
Minimal to no instrumental arrangements are preferred, i'd like the songs to be carried by the vocals mainly.

Early Fleet Foxes has hella long sustained mournful male vocals but there are instruments. They're less of a focus than other similar bands or than their later albums.

Brian Wilson/Beach Boys might be for you.

Lonely Sea

The Warmth of the Sun, which gets a lot of its emotion from the JFK assassination. Nobody's quite sure if it was already started before Kennedy was killed or right after, but they finished it soon after.

In My Room

Getting into more instrumentation, but still carried by the vocals:

Y'all got any recs for chiptune with a jazz/fusion tinge? FM synth based would be a plus. I know that's kind of specific but I've been trying to find an artist I heard like 8 years ago in a chiptune mix and it was material like that.

That was actually in the mix. The timestamp here is the kind of stuff I'm looking for:

I've been going back through these mixes to find the exact track I was referring to.

Jon Arbuckle: Master of pleasuring women

Hey goons, I’m desperately in need of good “I love you and I’m here for you no matter what” songs. My fiancée is going through a living nightmare currently, and all of the songs I normally play or sing to them to make them feel loved come across more as “I desperately need you so don’t go anywhere” when things are like this.

Ideally something like this but with a more helpful message https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DxECLvhkqtE&pp=ygUdbW9vbmxpZ2h0IGZpc2ggaW4gYSBiaXJkY2FnZSA%3D

Seriously thank you for any help you can give. The right song or songs could literally save a life between now and when all this poo poo finally passes.

It's not exactly a sappy love song but Randy Newman's You've Got A Friend In Me maybe?
