Not sure if this should go in the house thread, but the genre overlap is there but not quite. If you guys think I should post there, just say so. Basically I want to make an upbeat playlist, leaning on the housier/disco side. But I need more tracks! Here's the sort of stuff I want Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP - We No Speak Americano <== I would LOVE more tracks in this vein http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wavpWRK6IX8 Yolanda Be Cool - Afro Nuts (DCUP Remix) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nVJAfikQQ8 Paulina rubio - Y yo sigo aqui http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zaXyh6-ZHg Thalia - A quién le importa http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCPxq9gjzWs Mike - Love Today http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWiccrTB4LM I have a ton of house, but a lot of it is more "laid back," which is generally what I prefer but I want some high octane, get your blood going, get your rear end on the dance floor type grooves. Absolutely fine with things outside of house, as evinced by some of the Spanish selections. Thanks

I'm trying to get into electro, house, and trance, but I really don't know where to start. All I know is that I love songs with driving basslines, like Satisfaction by Benny Benassi, Till the Sky Falls Down (Dub mix) by Dash Berlin, and As the Rush Comes by Motorcycle. I also really loved the album square released here on SA by robot science. What do you guys think should I be looking at?

Thanks, I've listened to the Dandy Warhols and Velvet Underground pretty extensively already, but I haven't had a chance to try BRMC or even heard of Ride. My Bloody Valentine I have tried to listen to, but I found them to be a little more ambient and I was nonplussed by what I heard unless I started on the wrong album or something. It just seemed very drone-y. The dandy warhols were basically what got me into BJM, I had put them on when my brother recommended BJM.

My personal favorite stuff generally comes from between 1999 and 2000 (ATB, some crappy Alice Deejay song, Bassment Jaxx, Chicane, 1997's Daft Punk i.e. Homework not Discovery, the Chemical Brothers, entire bins of Ibiza mixes, the freakin GO OST, etc), but I've heard enjoyable stuff from all over the place. Argha Noah is a cool song with a driving bassline from 1999, though definitely a bit more downtempo than the songs you referenced. Chemical Brothers recently put out a song called Burst Generator that is pretty decent, the Orb and Underworld are great and as old as the hills, HEALTH and Simian Mobile Disco are both pretty recent... edit- if you like that Benny Benassi vid, you'll probably like the Simian Mobile Disco video for "Hustler" Smoove J fucked around with this message at 16:21 on Jun 2, 2010 |

I'm looking to get into mythology-based metal with strong vocals (sans shrieking) along the lines of Symphony X, perhaps also something with a bit more of a folk sound through the use of acoustics. I love the grand scale imagery that the lyrics and classical sound creates and I'm dying for more. I checked out the new Viking Folk Metal thread and while I really enjoyed the instrumentation of some bands like Ensiferum and Moonsorrow, I just couldn't stand and get past the shrieking and death-growls.

I'm coming off a huge metal kick and getting into more mellow rock/indie/whatever. I'm into bands like Mae, Fun, and Sigur Ros. Any recommendations from any of those would be cool. Beyond that, I have a few requests. -Bands similar in sound to My Chemical Romance. I love their sound/emotional lyrics, especially from the Black Parade. No The Used please. I'm looking for bands with emotionally charged songs (Like Famous Last Words), maybe some cool guitar riffs. -I really like Against Me - Baby I'm an Anarchist and Anti Flag's - One Trillion Dollars. -Ferry Corsten is amazing. Any similar DJs? -Damien Rice has some great music. Anything more upbeat and less sexual? -Uncommon Valor by Jedi Mind Tricks is great. Anymore rap similar to this? Mainly political or protest themes. ThePopeOfFun fucked around with this message at 05:44 on Jun 5, 2010 |

If you like Madlib, especially his Soundtrack / India albums, you will probably like both of Oh No's full lengths. Actually, based on your request, most of the stuff on Stones Throw is a safe bet. Also, based on your enjoyment of Endtroducing, I'd recommend Metaform. His album Standing On The Shoulders of Giants is very very similar to Endtroducing.

I'm looking to explore some more Krautrock, specifically something with that repeating motorik rhythm, eg demonstrated by this youtube band http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cv2KZnhFqvk I understand that's pretty Neu-esque, but what I've heard of Neu doesn't seem to be as harsh/rock-y-- I like that grinding riff over the straight 4/4 motorik drumming. Is there some specific Neu I should be looking at, or anything else?
