I've just recently discovered the greatness that is Lightspeed Champion and I sure wish I'd listened sooner. I'm a big fan of Bloc Party as well and I enjoyed Kele's solo album so I'm looking for any similar stuff in that vein. Nice indie stuff with a British twist, or perhaps without even. Also anything like Death Cab For Cutie stateside.

I listen mostly to rock and jazz, but in the right setting I like (and I hesitate to even use these as genres) some electronic stuff as well as some hip-hop.

Lately I've been really enjoying some stuff on archive.org from the likes of Mr. Moods and 2 Bone Giants. I've listened to other stuff as well, but these two really stick out. Does anybody have any recommendations? Obviously I'd prefer freely-available stuff, but I'm not against paying for good music.

I also like to have stuff like Girl Talk on the iPod. I've found DJ Quickie Mart's Brain Salad Surgery that also has similar mashup type of stuff. Is there anything else similar out there?

Doom and Stoner metal were already suggested, so might as well chip in with some Sludge to complete the trifecta.

Actually that's more like straight post-metal since I was looking for a 'trancy' song. But hey, if you're into this stuff, you're probably already checking out the Stoner/Sludge/Doom thread, so.

This is kind of a weird request, but here goes anyway. I don't really like most Bob Dylan, from what I've heard, but I really like some of his 70s, less folk-ier stuff I've listened to. The more electric stuff, where he doesn't use his nasally voice, things like "The Man in Me" off New Morning or some of the songs off Planet Waves.

What's some more songs like these, by Dylan or anyone else? Preferably more stuff by Dylan that sounds like this, because I really dig his voice on these tracks.

EDIT: If it's not clear from my post, I've already got both New Morning and Planet Waves

Anyone got some Turkish music recommendations they can pass along? I hate about 99% of the croony, warbly poo poo they play on the radio.

Ruhum by Yasar Kurt is the only Turkish song I've found that I really love. Once Kendine Bak by Ceza is okay too, and Denek Hayatim by Sakin (I don't much like any of the other songs I've heard by any of these three though).

Something Paul Simon-y would be great, or something like Peter Fox/Seeed or... well, really I'm open to trying anything not too sickly sweet and poppy. I don't care at all if it's "traditional" or not, I just want it to be in Turkish.

Thanks in advance.

So, I just realized that I listen to too much Portuguese punk. Bands like Reação adversa, Noção de Nada, Kaos 64, Tropa Suicida, Inkisição, Dias de um futuro de esquicido, Eu Serei a Hiena (not technically punk I guess?), etc. Anyways I'd like to get more spanish punk though, since I'll be going abroad next summer and wanting to immerse myself in the language, having plenty of music I like in the appropriate language would also be pretty cool and a big help. So I'm looking for bands like some of those portuguese/brasilian ones, or like some of the spanish bands I already listen to, So for like, similar styles:

Ska-p I love a lot, eurosis was alright but, que corra la voz and planeta eskoria are astounding albums. La Vela Puerca's harder stuff is alright. Boikot is pretty decent. I love Na' Que Ver and their albums No Mirar Atras and Asi Estamos. Decision Final I'm okay on. Not a big fan of straight edge but they're not bad. Sin Dios is pretty cool I've only heard Solidaridad, Odio al Imperio and Recortes de Libertad. Along that line the Execradores split with them was good, but I haven't been able to find anything by the Execradores besides A luta! so yeah. I also listened to Buena Pelea's Primer Round at a friend's place and didn't hate it. So huh. i guess I like mostly spanish Ska Punk? But I like other punk too, just had a lot of exposure to Ska-Punk for spanish bands.

The End of Heartache - Killswitch Engage
Revenga - System of a Down
Dawn of Victory - Rhapsody of Fire
Through the Fire and Flames - DragonForce

As far as Killswitch Engage goes, that song is off the album of the same title which is their second album. Their first album featured a different singer, and all albums since have featured Howard Jones on vocals. For individual songs by them check out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgMsACFMIq8&ob=av2e
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mc9n5VMLU-k
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EluzTj88tWU&ob=av2e
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrhIbX-uDjQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVskEA9-CtQ

All of these songs have melodic parts as a lot of Killswitch songs tend to have so it's not just screaming all the way through which may be off putting if you're just getting in to this type of stuff.

System of a Down is a pretty fun band, they aren't too heavy most of the time and they make fun songs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elo9svwGg0c
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08jvu0RSFv8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZdL1BupbhU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoheCz4t2xc&ob=av2e
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkkOQjK71Ss

If you're looking for bands like these, Killswitch Engage is probably the most well known metalcore band, so bands like All That Remains, As I Lay Dying, and The Devil Wears Prada.

As far as System of a Down is concerned, there really isn't any bands like them per say, but if you like that weird experimental feel check out The Mars Volta, Serj Tankian's solo effort (he's the lead singer) or Daron Malakian's (guitarist/singer for them) band which also features John Dolmayan (their drummer) on, you guessed it, drums!

You also mentioned DragonForce, I'm not a big fan of theirs at all but if you are into that Power Metal sound (fighting dragons and other hilarious, awesome poo poo) then check out Manowar for all your fantasy metal needs. They do it all.

A lot of stuff Not Not Fun and Olde English Spelling Bee have put out might appeal to you.

I was also looking for something along these lines of but couldn't quite articulate the elements I was looking for. I'm really liking these songs, especially the Autre Ne Veut one :stare:. Thanks alot.

Ok so I was in the middle of a 6 hour drive last night when I flipped to a station that had "space" music playing. I was surprised at how much I liked it. Do any of you listen to that sort of slow, electronic music? If so, any recommendations?

Thanks!

I would check out some of the channels on soma.fm

What's some good hip hop from say.. 2000-2010? Most of my hip hop collection is stuff from the 80s, 90s and groups/people from that era releasing albums this decade. I don't have any dislikes, except for nerdcore unless it's really, really good which it usually isn't.
Pharoahe Monch, Black Milk, UGK, Subtle if you're into weirder stuff.

A friend of mine recently send me some instrumental tracks that I really liked so I was hoping for some recommendations on similar/better stuff.

I'm also interested in something like "modern classical," I guess would be a decent way to describe it. Or even some good instrumental stuff in general?
