I've gotten into rap fairly recently. My first foray was MF Doom, whom I liked a lot, and I'm just starting to listen to the Wu-Tang albums. So far I've liked what I've heard from the first two albums of theirs. I also liked Method Man's Tical a whole lot. Some other artists I've stumbled into and liked are A Tribe Called Quest, Saul Williams (other than most of Niggy Tardust), People Under the Stairs, One Be Lo, Cannibal Ox and the Pharcyde. Do you guys know of anything I might like? In addition, what are some core rap albums that self-proclaimed rap fans should sit down and listen to? I don't really know what I'm missing out on as far as classics go.

Sorry I didn't come in earlier to say this, but thanks for all of the recommendations. I just listened to an album by the GZA called Liquid Swords. It's pretty loving awesome.

X-Ray Pecs posted:Can someone give me recommendations on early New York punk/new wave stuff? The only bands like this I can think of are Blondie, The Cars, Talking Heads, Ramones, Television, The Voidoids, and Dead Boys. I'd like to have some more of this kind of stuff. Have you already heard The Modern Lovers?

So was just shown this by a friend of mine. Liking this, I'm not sure where I should go from here as far as electronica. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iODdvJGpfIA

I'm gaining interest in the banjo and thinking about learning how to play one. Can any of you cool cats recommend me some music with banjos that you like? Anything from bluegrass to something that just happens to have a banjo singing in the background. The weirder the better.

I've been pretty into Birdy Nam Nam's jazzier stuff lately. Any recommendations for things of that sort? On a side note, I've been watching Treme and have loved the music. Any chance there's a good comp or an especially good place to start with jazz music from New Orleans?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYDphGzyGjE These guys are pretty cool. Do any of you know any other good bands from this genre? It seems to be difficult to find this kind of thing. In addition, any of you know of a recording of Joji Yanagi's performances with Ray Charles?

Terminally Bored posted:The Dirtbombs These guys are amazing live. Great show. I'd highly recommend going out to see them if you have the opportunity. I saw them open for BRMC. The frontman played the guitar with his teeth and closed their set by humping his ax into submission as the lights dimmed.

So I bought this album blind and absolutely loved it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcjSF_ywnbY I'm also a huge fan of Townes Van Zandt, Michael Hurley, John Prine, Merle Haggard, Travis, Jon-Rae Fletcher, Tallest Man on Earth, Lightnin' Hopkins, Nick Drake, Guy Clarke and so on and so forth. Could you guys recommend some more music along these lines?
