Here's the deal, I love Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and I love The Jesus and Mary Chain.

I'm looking for music that spans the creative and temporal gap between these two groups. As far as I can tell, that means 90s alternative and garage rock, but that's a fairly large genre to start with.

Can anyone recommend music that fits with these two bands?

I really like this kind of music too. I reckon you should check out some late eighties/early nineties shoegaze like this:

Ultra Vivid Scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aXF9DG9FGo
Ride https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wF0FO5riglY
Swirlies https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1M3DIX9f78
Some newer bands are worth listening too aswell:
Darker My Love https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbevfzihGbA
Crystal Stilts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0w7c832Ijxs
A Place To Bury Strangers are also a good shout, they are one of the many bands who are just releasing Psychocandy over and over again, but they do a really good job of it.

Fuuuuuzzzzzz.

2. I want some more old school/70s/"proto" punk. No Ramones or The Stooges please.

The Saints. Criminally underrated punk band from Australia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLbyaNbhHdU

Oh yeah, if you can find their album, the Snivelling Shits are cool as hell too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WppxaRN8nxg

Ok so I have been listening to Justice far too much for some while now.

I cant get enough.

Can anyone reccomend similiarly crunchy/spine shivering electro?

You'll probably like stuff like Danger, Soulwax, Hot Pink Delorean, Burns, Jokers of the Scene, Boys Noize, the Bloody Beetroots. That's all the bloghouse I can think of at the moment. Just go on hypem.com and look around for a bit to see what you like.

Hey, thanks a lot. I've never listened to "Triphop" before and it's pretty cool. What else should I listen to, NMD?

My favourite trip hop album is probably Lushlife by Bowery Electric. Definitely worth having a listen to.

I'm really, really, really in the mood for (almost) ear shattering noisy, glitch music. Thinking along the lines of Crystal Castles and NIN's Year Zero album. I have a couple albums by Nosaj Thing, and those are really good; but for the most part I do like vocals to go with the music, if they work well. If not, whatever works. I checked out a few of the similar things posted above and none of them really met my fancy. Thank you :)

It's not exactly ear shattering but I'd check out Jackson and his Computer Band, he only released one album a few years ago and then he disappeared. It's a great album though, well at least the beginning and the end of it haha.

Also, as their name implies, Holy gently caress make some pretty noisy music. This song has easily has one of the best bass lines I've heard this year

For more loud shoegazey stuff that is so chaotic it may aswell be glitch, have a look at Serena-Maneesh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-IPw9mv-J4

I've gotten into rap fairly recently. My first foray was MF Doom, whom I liked a lot, and I'm just starting to listen to the Wu-Tang albums. So far I've liked what I've heard from the first two albums of theirs. I also liked Method Man's Tical a whole lot.

Some other artists I've stumbled into and liked are A Tribe Called Quest, Saul Williams (other than most of Niggy Tardust), People Under the Stairs, One Be Lo, Cannibal Ox and the Pharcyde.

Do you guys know of anything I might like?

In addition, what are some core rap albums that self-proclaimed rap fans should sit down and listen to? I don't really know what I'm missing out on as far as classics go.

I don't really know much about hip-hop, but I was in the same position as you and I really liked these newer songs and their respective albums.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zs68F4Ruc0 Thavius Beck (Think he produced one of Saul Williams' albums)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFHZa-VPXN0 Immortal Technique
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXgM9T4mFbQ dälek, dark hip hop, really really good stuff

as for classic albums, I'd say listen to some gil scott-heron, maybe company flow. stuff like that

Can anyone recommend me some good (non-Massive Attack/Portishead) trip-hop or softer hip hop. I'd prefer some English artists if possible.

Try Bowery Electric

Is there a name for it, though?

I only heard one of the songs cause the other wasn't available in the UK, but it just sounds like guitar with chorus or delay, or maybe they're running the guitar through two amps.

I'm looking for some good modern shoegazey/dreampop music to add to my collection.

I really enjoy the classics (MBV, JaMC, Cocteau Twins, Slowdive, Ride, Catherine Wheel, etc.). Of the newer "nu-gaze" bands that I've heard, I most enjoy The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, The Radio Dept., Longview, School of Seven Bells, the Silversun Pickups' first album, and to a lesser extent Asobi Seksu's first two albums; as well as electronica-based stuff like M83, Ulrich Schnauss, and Tycho (I REALLY wish I could find artists that sound similar to those three).

I tend to dislike the really lo-fi, noisy stuff (Vivian Girls, No-Age, Deerhunter, etc.), since it all just sounds like a sloppy version of Psychocandy to my ears.

I, like so many posters before me, am deeply curious.
From 2010:
Ghost Blonde by No Joy (decent LA shoegaze band whose album just came out. kevin shields gets pissed when you say MBV vocals are buried under the mix, these guys embrace that sound.)
The Waves by Tamaryn (Worth a listen, few great songs)
Pleamar by Resplandor (I think these guys are brazilian or something, very cocteau twins guitar sound)
Sparkler by Ringo Deathstarr (might've been 2009, can't remember)
S-m 2: Abyss in B Minor by Serena-Maneesh

Devotion Implosion by Gliss (the production on this album is amazing, they sound like a huge shoegaze BRMC)
Secrets are Sinister by Longwave
23 by Blonde Redhead
All of Robin Guthries solo stuff, although I'm sure you've heard it if you're into Cocteau Twins
Waiting for the Time to be Right by The Brother Kite (heavy reverb beach boys type shoegaze, i dunno)

On the more electronic side:
Anything by Boards of Canada, I'm sure you've checked them out by now
Immolate Yourself by Telefon Tel Aviv
Quique by Seefeel ('the only band on warp records with guitars', incredible album, they've got a new one coming out this year)
Sinister Devices by Viernes
76:14 by Global Communication

I had some more electronic ones but I can't think of them right now. These are all on spotify if it's available to you.
