Alright so lately I have been getting into more post-rock sounding stuff like Yndi Halda, Pelican, stuff like that. I have no idea where to start with this genre, I know about all the big names like EiTS, Mono, Godspeed You, stuff like that. But I was wondering how I should start to delve deeper into this genre and find new stuff?

Can anyone tell me what kind of music/keywords I should be using to find songs/music like this?

Skip the intro and go to the homepage. I'm guessing ambient music? If so, does anyone have any 'good' artist recommendations for music like this?

Off the top of my head, The American Dollar, Arms and Sleepers and Helios should all be similar to what you're looking for I think.

I'd really like to get into some beautiful electronic ambient stuff. Can you recommend the genre staples? Or superb unknowns? Or anything that fits, I suppose.

I'd like to thank everyone who's helped with my previous requests. This thread is indispensable.

William Basinski, The American Dollar, Helios, Tim Hecker (The CD he did with Aidan Baker, Fantasma Parastasie is EXCELLENT) to start you off. Oh and seconding Eluvium.

Speaking of Sigur Ros, I'm looking for more post-rock stuff with vocals like in their song Glosoli

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zr_MJAOyOeU

I'd prefer female vocals (despite the song being sung by a dude) but any recommendations are welcome.

Gregor Samsa, Halves, Her Name is Calla. Not a lot of post rock with vocals out there, especially with female ones.

Crono some of Nine Inch Nails work I think are "concept songs" but the only "concept album" goign by a quick read of Wiki is Year Zero, which I've not listened to.

I'm looking for music similar to Cornelius, especially the track "Drop".

The Downward Spiral is most definitely a concept album.

This is kinda a weird and seemingly very nerdy request, but I'm looking for music similar to Totems of the Grizzlemaw, which is on the Wrath of the Lich King soundtrack. Last.fm has no recommendations for it. I suppose it's similar to Nordic Folk music, but I'm entirely unfamiliar with the genre.

I tried to listen to some Solitudes tracks, to see if they were similar, but they're all filled with pianos and birds chirping, which is not what I want. I just want that soothing northern instrumental music.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAFUBpuaL20 <--here's the song

Yndi Halda. You'll thank me later.

Edit - Yndi Halda songs build to a big climax towards the end as Post-Rock often does, but the beginning captures that Nordic ambience I think you're after.

so I've been listening to a lot of electronic music, and these are my favorite artists so far:

Air
Aphex Twin
Basement Jaxx
Benny Benassi
Dimitri From Paris
Dj Krush
Giorgio Moroder
Kruder and Dorfmeister
Metro Area
The Prodigy
Tricky

I guess I'm looking for more fun/catchy electronic music, I tried some weirder stuff like The Orb and Oval but I don't like it too much. It seems like the artists I like are all over the place and some of them might not even be electronic so I don't know.

any recommendations?

Try Pendulum, Errors, and The Knife.

I'm looking for really minimal music. Electronic or instrumental or, well, maybe vocal, but I can't imagine it. I love the Boards of Canada, and any atmospheric music- I know there's a lot of it- would be good, but good bedtime sounds would be terrific. :)

William Basinski.
