For the last couple months I've been listening to Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians when I study - I think it's really beautiful but repetitive enough that I sort of zone it out if I'm doing something else - which makes it great for homework.

Any suggestions? I've found a few things by Philip Glass that work pretty well, but there's also a lot of stuff by Glass that doesn't work at all for this.
You can't go wrong with Terry Riley. Check out "In C", "A Rainbow in Curved Air", and "Salome Dances for Peace". You may also like some of György Ligeti's middle period works, particularly "Clocks and Clouds" and "Self-portrait with Reich and Riley."

Also, can anyone recommend artists similar to Foetus/Steroid Maximus? The ones Last.fm suggests are mostly industrial, but I'm looking for something more pop-ish, sample-heavy, and with a sense of humor.

Foetus isn't very "pop-ish"?
"Flow" and "Love" are more accessible than the average industrial music. It's not exactly pop, but it isn't too far off.

Whats your thoughts on the Young Gods albums L'eau Rouge and T.V. Sky?
It doesn't sound bad, but it's not quite what I'm looking for.

I'm looking for music that sounds like what Amon Tobin did a few years ago (Supermodified, Chaos Theory). Most of the suggested artists on Last.fm lean too heavily towards jazz or towards DnB.

I'm looking for some new music for my workout playlist. I like trance and techno with a dark, hypnotic sound to it. I also have some synthwave tracks, but that whole genre is hit or miss for me (I like Carpenter Brut, and a few songs here and there). Some examples of the kind of music I'm looking for are these:

The big problem with automated recommendations is that they tend to push you towards very popular things in whatever category you're dealing with. When it comes to discovering new music that not a lot of people are already listening to, people still have the edge. This is a very hard problem to solve and will probably be with us for a while.

Does last.fm still do recommendations on the artist level, or can they also make more specific recommendations based on the songs you listen to?

My "Discover Weekly" playlist on Spotify is nothing but vaporwave even though I only have one (1) vaporwave song saved on my phone.

While we're on the topic of funk, can anyone recommend some good funk/disco bands that sound like Rick James and Heatwave? Short tracks without too much repetition. I prefer bands that use horns and strings, instead of just synth (although I like some songs by The Time).

I'm looking for more electronic music like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cyCtHcV0Y8 (Love the trumpet and I like German lyrics)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9gASGEHkww (I like acid house as long as it's playful/goofy like this)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kbIXqEdGqM (German lyrics, not too hard)
I also like repetitive house with string textures like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brZ_WBEzw6E
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKM_8dXD65U

Most of the things Spotify recommends (e.g.: Gesaffelstein) are too "edgy" or borderline unlistenable.
