I need some help with the band Boris. Someone recommended them in this thread, and I now own pretty much half of their discography, about half of which I like. I am a hip-hop head at heart, so I don't know a lot about this type of noise/stoner/drone/doom rock or whatever, but I do know that certain songs by Boris are exactly what I like about rock.

If anyone can recommend music akin to this, whether it be old or new, I would be very very grateful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtt3A6QZ0uY

The song is only 2 minutes, even though the video says its longer.
I'm not familiar with Boris, so forgive me if I'm way off. Of course, if you had more than just one song that you liked by them, it'd be easier to find some stuff for you. :D

Are you looking strictly instrumental?
If you are, maybe try Between the Buried and Me's instrumental version of the album "Alaska".

If you're are willing to go with some vocals...
You might be interested in something like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBaxRYGtrkI . Apparently Boris got their name from a Melvins song. :3:

You might also like some Disfear. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYZpVVgdCbE I'm also getting a Queens of the Stone Age (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGRqnNEOpe0) vibe. :/

Hi all. I've been listening to Rise Against's "The Sufferer and the Witness" since the beginning of the year, and wondered if anyone knew of any other albums that have a similar feel to them? For the record, I've got Rise Against's other albums too, but "The Sufferer and the Witness" is easily my favourite.

I'm in the same boat, man. SATW is easily one of my top 5 albums ever. Its really hard to find an album that strong all around, especially in this genre. One of the albums I find that gets closest to that feeling is Bad Religion's Stranger Than Fiction. While the sound isn't verbatim, the catchiness, singability, and general feeling of the album is similar, IMO. I've also hunted and pecked at songs from other albums to create a playlist that's does the same, but STF is definitely the closest I've gotten. If you want said playlist, I can send you the setlist if you'd be interested. :/

I've also gotten really a lot of enjoyment out of Set Your Goals' This Will Be the Death of Us. Its more poppy, but its worth sucking it up. Its got lot of strong songs IMO, but I would definitely listen to the title track, Look Closer, The Few That Remain, and Equals. It might also be worth looking into Break the Silence's Near Life Experience. I think the guitarist used to be in Rise Against. It's rougher on the edges (vocals), but worth looking into.

drat, this is a hard recommendation. Nothing touches SATW, which is really depressing. :(

Looking for some good old southern rock.
Got my bases covered in:

Skynyrd
Steve Miller
Souther Culture on the Skids
The Outlaws

as I have huge collections/greatest hits of theirs. I never really listened to them much, but recently I've gotten really into these bands, and I would love to get some more.

Song's similar to what I'd like to hear:
38 Special-Hold on Loosely
The Outlaws-Green Grass and High Tides
Molly Hatchet-Flirtin with Disaster
Lynyrd Skynyrd-Simple Man
Steve Miller Band-Take the Money and Run
Kenny Rogers and the First Edition-Just Dropped In

I know I should look into Marshall Tucker, Allman Brothers, and a couple other bands, but I don't really know where to START.

Thanks!

Does anyone have thoughts as to bands like:
HORSE the Band
The Fall of Troy (oh god why are they breaking up T_T)
Protest the Hero
Rise Against

I like punk and metal stylings but I don't like constant screaming/growling. Any recommendations would be much appreciated :P

Like these bands, also really like "set your goals" most recent album (This will be the death of us). I'm in class right now, I'll update with more bands later.

Any specific works you want to point out for DT? He's kind of eclectic. I know that's part of the draw (believe me), but knowing a song or two in specific will help a bit, especially with how much his catalog can vary.

For the meantime, try out:
Soilwork (Figure number five, natural born chaos)
Opeth
Disarmonia Mundi

As for Muse:
Mute Math

Clutch is badass and Neil Fallon is one of my favorite vocalists. I would love anything and everything similar. I already know the Bakerton Group exists!

Also, Portugal. The Man is nice, chill music and I would appreciate stuff similar to them, too. Church Mouth is my favorite album of theirs.
Much appreciated!

You, my friend, have good taste in music.

Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone I can 100% say you'd like but

Circa Survive, you may like. I got into Portugal trying to find someone like CS:

Here's another attempt at this. This may be a little specific. I'm looking for something like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h54MfBeltME

My favorite parts are the dreamy nostalgic atmosphere (this is probably the most important aspect) and the pulsating beats. I like that it's not really dance-y, but more contemplative. Anything like this?

I'm going to take a stab at this, but I could be way off.

Maybe the Shatter soundtrack?
