If it's weird but at times beautiful stuff then try Merchandise (LP on Katorga Works), El Jesus De Magico, Dadamah, the latest Total Control - Henge Beat LP and The Young - Voyagers of Legend LP. June of 44 was an excellent recommendation. be sure to check out Enablers (the SF band).

I'm familiar with Jefferson Airplane, early Moody Blues, Tame Impala, Devendra Banhart, etc. I know there are lots of big names and big albums I'm missing, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Bonus points for female vocalists. Modern but lesser-known psych bands worth mentioning: The Heads - from the UK, the kings of heavier, "rawk" psych. Telescopes US bands: Bardo Pond (female vocals, bonus get!) Wooden Shjips Apache Dropout Dead Luke Brightblack Morning Light (the most relaxing psych band I've ever heard) Magic Lantern The People's Temple The Gris Gris (probably the best 13th Floor Elevators-inspired band ever. Defunct, sadly) Cave Human Eye (easily the weirdest band you'll find) Australia: ZOND Japanese: Marble Sheep Up-Tight Kawaguchi Masami's New Rock Syndicate few from South America: La Hell Gang La Ira De Dios The Psychedelic Schafferson Jetplane (contrary to the name, it's mostly Spacemen 3 worship) and a shitload of various bands/projects releasing stuff on vinyls, CD-Rs, cassettes and digitally.

Anorexic Sea Turtle posted:I'm looking for some anarchist, socialist, communist, or angry as gently caress about politics music. Preferably folk punk or (if it exists) blues punk. I know and love bands like the following: I'm not an anarchist but respect their views and music very much. Four bands immediately come to mind: Crass - very abrasive, basic punk. One of the most important and influential bands to ever wear anarchist views proudly on their sleeves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGjk1Y_j8QE http://youtu.be/eT1etlIZmis The Ex - basically a Dutch version of the Crass. The main differences were: a) they are still playing nowadays, now hitting their 30 years as a band; b) they were way more musically adventurous, releasing albums with cellist Tom Cora (two LPs, both brilliant) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfskVxCn_qo or Ethiopian saxophonist Getatchew Mekuria http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ll1p_YuZXzM The Pop Group - the most aggressive band of the late 70s/early 80s danceable post-punk wave (Slits, Richard Hell, Black Randy & The Metrosquad, etc.), just check out their most famous song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VnwL4-Ghn0 Chumbawamba - yes, these guys. Before they wrote a silly song about getting drunk (which was put in the FIFA World Cup game soundtrack) they were an anarchist folk-punk band releasing albums with titles like "Pictures of Starving Children Sell Records". They even recorded an acapella 10'' called "English Rebel Songs 1381-1984" which is exactly that: http://youtu.be/cuBgeGKPGZI For blues-punk with socialist/anarchist themes should check Tim Kerr's output. Especially Lord High Fixers: http://youtu.be/DosmPwojAEQ Their last album "The Beginning of the End... The End of the Beginning" is basically one LP-long manifest. (other bands with Kerr on guitar are Poison 13 and Jack O' Fire, but they weren't that much in the MC5 mode, focusing mainly on playing old blues songs by means of sheer punkship) Terminally Bored fucked around with this message at 14:35 on Jan 15, 2012 |

Krypt-OOO-Nite!! posted:^ thanks had never heard of nost of them and like a few is there anything that sounds more like 80's Matchbox's more psychedelic moments? It does. What you need is more surf/horror punk from which they also took notes. Start with the whole Necessary Evils - The Sicko Inside Me LP (warning: it's one of the heaviest garage rock albums ever made), then check out The Beguiled - Blue Dirge (people from NE, but with a more pronounced surf), Fireworks - Set The World On Fire, The Dwarves - Horror Stories, Rock'n'Roll Adventure Kids - Hillbilly Psychosis, Blowtops - Blackstatic. Basically, stay away from campy horror poo poo like late 90s Misfits. They play up the kitch but mostly tone down the fuzz. After you check the above albums, you'll be able to tell the difference in the approach right away.
