Does anyone have reccomendations for metal bands with a female vocalist in it? I have been listening to Battlelore a lot lately, so something along those lines.

I'm looking for some music that sounds like Halloween. Preferably something from this year but 2013's fine too.

I know it's become very stereotypical and "le edgy internet maymay", but Andrew Gold's Halloween Howls reminds me of Halloween as a child, in a very "Goosebumps/Tales From The Crypt" type of way.

Hello all, I'm looking for some strong bass music, powerful. Like, way stronger than '2 unlimited - get ready for this', something along the voltage of 'Amon Amarth - Free Will Sacrifice' or 'No Fear for the Setting Sun'. Not limited to metal only, rock is great too, or whatever you will find worth sharing . I'm not very savvy in music, excuse me.

If you like death metal, a lot of guttural brutal slamming death metal is very bass-heavy and low, including the low guttural vocals which can give the song a very chuggy bassy feel.

Just slow, sad music that's ultra synth-heavy and good to smoke weed to.

I'm going through a rough breakup right now. What are some of the best albums of any genre to get over someone?

And I'm not talking "wallow in self pity and cry to Death Cab for Cutie" stuff, more like a cathartic experience for relieving heartbreak.

Thank you all for the breakup reccomendations everybody, they've definitely helped a lot and I've discovered some great new music.

Any reccomendations for Southern, whiskey soaked preferably electric blues? Think stuff like "Worried Down With the Blues by Gov't Mule or Blow Away by the Grateful Dead with Brent on vocals. "Have you ever Seen the Rain" by CCR is another example of the type of stuff of what I'm looking for.

Vampire Blues by Neil Young
Ain't Nothin to Me by Johnny Winter
Lightning Bar Blues by Arlo Guthrie (maybe look up the original by Hoyt Axton as well, they have different sounds, both you'd like)
Find a greatest hits album by The Band
Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar) by The Doors
Not electric or southern, but based on your last request and smoky whisky bar sound, you probably need Closing Time by Tom Waits, which is amazing.

And pretty much anything by one of the Hank Williams will fit the mood. Senior for acoustic, classic country; Jr. for country; the 3rd for rockabilly.

I take every opportunity to recommend the North Mississippi Allstars that comes along. I'm not sure how well they would work for you if you want to stick very close to your examples--they'll go full-tilt boogie and/or psychedelic when the mood strikes--but if you're good with that, I think you might find them worth checking out. A couple of my favorites:

Goin' Down South
Rollin' n' Tumblin'

Loved pretty much every single suggestion. Especially dug Tom Waits, I'd heard the name but never heard his music before. Loved it. Thank you both ^_^

What are some songs similar to Easy Wind by the Grateful Dead (with Pigpen on vocals). Some of the "ballin-that-jack-daniels outlaw folky blues" stuff.

I would love some really strong, melodic female vocals, please. I love Lady Gaga, Sia, Lana Del Ray, Adele, Florence, Tegan and Sara, and Nightwish in the Tarja days. Basically, anything with really strong, powerful female vocals.

You might enjoy the wailing of Donna Jean Godchaux: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CEoYK_lRxQ

She starts to sing about a minute in.

There's a quick example, but I swear some songs she played with the Grateful Dead were just her wondering on stage totally wasted and just belting out lyrics as powerful as she could get them.

There's obvious ones like Beyonce, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Janelle Monae, Alicia Keys. Unless they're too blac sassy for your tastes.

I'm not sure I would use the terms "strong, melodic, or powerful" when referring to Nicki Minaj.

And not in that "hurr-durr pop music sux" type of way, because I think Rihanna and Beyonce and the other artists you mentioned have gorgeous voices, I just have never been impressed with Minaj. Isn't she more of a rapper?

I like really strong vocals the best, so that's why I asked for those. I usually listen to a lot of symphonic metal and sing-songwriter (as long as they're not like, super breathy, I hate that.). But I got sick of my music library being like, 80% dudes.

If you like symphonic metal (or power metal ballads), you might enjoy listening to musicals. My personal favorites are Sweeney Todd, Phantom of the Opera, and Repo! The Genetic Opera! All of which have very powerful female vocals. Just throwing it out there.

Also, while not powerful in the pop-type vocals, if you like folk musicians there's lots of awesome female vocalists with melodic, haunting, or powerful vocals.
