I had posted a while back that the company I work for in Illinois is looking for a new developer to join the team. We finally hired a great guy, but he ended up following his fiance to the other side of the state, so here we go again.

tl;dr: Junior Programmer position open in Carthage, Illinois!

Who are we?
Carthage Veterinary Service, Ltd. We are a management/health consulting group for large hog production systems. Although we mainly consult in the US and Europe, we have many clients/partners all over, including Canada, China, Japan, and South America.

Where are we?
Carthage, Illinois

Where the hell is that?
West central Illinois, near the tip of the boob where IL, IA, and MO all come together, about 2.5-3 hours north of St. Louis. Yes, it is a small town in a rural area; hopefully you won't treat that as too much of a turn-off, it just is what it is.

What are we looking for?
We're searching for someone who can jump into a DotNet Framework (C#, ASP.Net, MVC) development role with a reasonable comfort level with the Framework, object-oriented concepts, and basic relational database theory. This is a "junior" position, but you will be expected to demonstrate some competence in modeling and implementing "smallish" data-driven web sites, and similar projects. There are three of us that work as a team to help one another out, but in large part you will need to be comfortable with taking a project and running with it, and with knowing when and what kinds of questions to ask when you need assistance.

Being a small company, we don't have dedicated PMs or requirements gatherers, so you will be expected to become comfortable with:
- Working with other departments, and external clients, to develop requirements for new projects
- Completing scoping templates, including task work estimates

Like a lot of similar jobs, there will be a lot of maintenance of existing software projects, but the person we pick for this position will be someone who is able to pick up and run with their own small projects when the opportunity arises.

How do I apply?
PM me here, or shoot me an email: linq.me at gmail

Anything else I should know?
Even though we're located in a small town, we don't operate like a small-town company, and have been growing rapidly in the 7+ years I've worked here. Up until a couple years ago, we were working out of a converted animal hospital. The company purchased a small college campus, we now occupy a 4-story dorm building that has been gutted and remodeled into offices. Though not as big as Microsoft, we now have our own campus, complete with a quad where you can escape for a walk to get away from the desk for a bit.

Despite of, or maybe because of, our size, we're able to keep pretty current on software. Everyone in IT has reasonably new machines, Windows 7, Visual Studio 2010; back office is Windows Server 2008 (some on R2), SQL Server 2008. I only point this out because "small, rural company" sometimes translates into junky/outdated hardware/software.

Interview with Michael Tildahl, lead frontend developer for Platfora

Platfora is helping companies bring their business intelligence toolset into the 21st century.

Traditional databases have difficulty scaling to the petabyte level. Conversely, highly scalable technologies like Hadoop are not interactive enough. Platfora is building technology to layer on top of Hadoop, providing the first interactive BI product built on massively scalable technology.

Open Positions

Located in San Mateo, CA, Platfora is growing fast and trying to fill a lot of positions:
  • Software Developer Athlete
  • Senior Java Backend Engineer
  • Senior UI/Visual Designer
  • Distributed Systems Engineer
  • Javascript Developer
  • Senior User Experience Designer
  • Senior Frontend Engineer

Interview with Ben Jabbawy, founder of Privy

Privy is a startup that is making it possible for small busineses to build self-service marketing products and promotions.

You’ve probably heard about the problems with Groupon: drive-by-customers, rude “deal shopper” clientele, inability to collect contact information and turn visitors into repeat customers, huge price discounts that destroy profit margins. The list goes on.

Privy is changing that by providing a custom promotions for small businesses that allow them to effectively run campaigns without sacrificing their margins.

Privy is a winner MassChallenge and is located in Cambridge, MA.

Open Positions
Privy is hiring both frontend engineers and interns that are still in school.
  • Front End Developer - JS/HTML/CSS and MVC frameworks (particularly Ruby on Rails)
  • Interns - both software and sales oriented

My company is looking for a new programmer at potentially any level for a contract to hire position in Austin, Tx

Who are we?
We are a small non-profit in Austin, Tx called TALHO. We do public health services. We're a pretty easygoing shop to work for, there aren't going to be any crunch times or things like that.

Where are we?
Austin, Tx. I don't think I need to spend time promoting Austin here. North Austin, if you care.

What are we looking for?
We need a contract to hire programmer for Ruby on Rails and Javascript, but this is an opportunity to learn on the job. We don't require that you have RoR or much Javascript experience, but compensation will be more if you do. Language is language, though, and if you can program, then I can teach you Rails/Javascript. We run as an agile team, and have a significant icebox, so you should be ready to jump in and start learning right away.

How do I apply?
PM or email kayakyakr@gmail.com

Anything else I should know?
If you can do some HTML/CSS or image editing, that would be something in your favor, but keep in mind this is a programmer job, not web design. No telecommute, no relocation services. If you're coming from a ways away, I can work with you on long-distance interviewing, but local is best. Also I'm the Senior Architect there, if that means anything.

Whilst most of my work is with the above technologies, I have no problems with learning a new language in order to contribute to an existing codebase. I've got a solid foundation in OOP and general good coding practices.

What I'm looking for: Pretty much any full-time web or other development work that can be done remotely. I'm flexible in regards to what hours I am willing to work, to accomodate timezone differences. As an example, my last job had me in Ireland, with the rest of my team in Omaha, NE. I'd frequently stick around after regular office hours/telecommute to assist on group projects or participate in meetings with them or execs in Cali, so working odd hours is a non-issue for me.

I'm open to offers that are only tangentially related to development work too - technical/training documentation, short-term contract work and general freelancery is A-OK too.

What I'm NOT looking for: Phone/VOIP based customer support. Never again. Unless you're offering a very strong comp package.

Where I live: The middle of nowhere, Finland. No, seriously, it's a little town called Pielavesi and is basically the middle of nowhere. There's nothing for me here except my Fiancée.

Where I'm looking: Globally for telecommute-friendly work. Otherwise, anywhere in Finland (We're willing to relocate)

When I can start: Immediately.

Requirements: Unless you're based in Finland, I would have to telecommute 100% of the time. This really shouldn't be a problem these days, what with Skype and emails/IMs.

Who We Are

We are Meelo Logic, a small startup based in New York City, working on our initial product offering, and we need help getting our application ready for proposals and beta customers. We're an Internet company specializing in web and social media analytics. The company currently consists of the CEO, CTO, and lead developer, so we're literally building a company from the ground up.

What We're Looking For

Web Developer: We're looking for a few part-time and/or full-time web developers to assist us with getting our product ready for our beta clients. You must be able to work independently, and probably with little direction on certain things, so creativity and determination are a must. We want someone who will help us brainstorm and develop the features that we need.

You should be skilled in and have at least 4 years of experience with PHP. You should also be familiar with MySQL development, but since we're not making much use of MySQL it's not that important for you to be an expert. MongoDB experience is a definite plus. You should also be comfortable working on a Linux server to do your day-to-day stuff.

NLTK Expert: We need someone who can help us develop some effective language processing algorithms. You should also be skilled enough in Python to be able to implement your ideas on a basic level. We're not looking for Phd's, but someone who's used NLTK (or some other language processing API) to give us pointers, improve what we have so far, etc.

What Else?

Right now we can't offer a whole lot in terms of benefits. These positions will be 1099-MISC contracts. Assuming we pick up funding soon (our goal is 2-3 months) then the opportunity to join us as full-time employees is a definite probability. You'll be members of our "core team" and will enjoy the privileges thereof.

These will be a remote/telecomm positions, however we do need people who are able to make it to the city one day a week to meet with us in our office in NYC. Our lead developer lives in Philadelphia, PA, so if you're closer to there we can work something out.

How Do I Apply?

Send an email to sajobs@meelologic.com. Please provide your current resume and, if possible, a sample of your work.

Don't worry, I had ten bucks.
Marketing agency in Tampa, FL is in need of a senior dev.

Who We Are

We are 22squared, a marketing agency with offices in Tampa and Atlanta working with several brands in the digital and traditional space. We need a senior developer in Tampa who can give guidance on technical capabilities, and develop web/mobile applications. There are about 100 people in the Tampa office and you would be the only developer here. We have 4.5 other developers in Atlanta who you would work with remotely occasionally, and report to the Tech Director there (he is the .5, slacking off in meetings half the time).

What We're Looking For

I could give a whole list of technologies you should know, but frankly if you are worth your salt, you should be able to pickup whatever we throw at you. The only requirements are HTML/CSS/JS proficiency, and knowing PHP and/or Flash would make you fit in the easiest, but not required; I am .Net guy and I fit in just fine for reference. We are working on trying to get rid of technology religion in the office as much as possible; frameworks/languages are a toolbox, and you use the right tool for the job. So if you have ever said "I would NEVER use .Net because it's Microsoft" or "Why would I ever use anything but wordpress?" (swapping .Net or wordpress with any other tech) then this is probably not the best place for you. Preferences are fine, blind faith is not. What we will need, possibly more than anything else, is be able to communicate to our creatives what our tech capabilities are, and opportunities they may have missed, in a clear and constructive manner. Can't stress it enough, being able to communicate clearly with those technical and non technical alike is a big part of this job. You should be familiar with social APIs, and be exciting about building things that connect brands with users.

You will be technically be the only dev in this office, but certainly not working alone; believe me when I say that everyone here can't wait to work with the guy who knows how to develop.

What Else?

There is beer stocked in the fridge daily. There is no dress code. And finding something new and shiny that we could use on a new app that could be the new hip thing, or is a complete bust is fully encouraged. If you don't know a few dirty jokes that would make your mother blush, then you may have trouble fitting in. You WILL be given time to play with whatever new thing you are interested in, and not using it is frowned upon. You must like having a little hectic in your schedule, and a big appreciation for creative executions even if it isn't in your skill set. You must be able to take direction remotely and still work collaboratively.

Benefits are pretty standard (401K, dental, medical, vision, etc) and you will be paid based on your skill level. Note that we are not skimping on this position; we feel it is very vital so you will have to prove you have the experience and capabilities to handle it. I don't care if you went to college or not, or have a PHD in 12th century French literature. If you like to build things, are curious almost to a fault, and can demonstrate your clout as a dev, then we want to talk to you. Get in touch and we can talk more about your day to day, or any other questions you may have.

We are also able to work with you on relocation if needed. Like I said, we want the right person for this job and willing to pay for it.

How Do I Apply?

newbid stupie?
I need a job.
My experience: I've worked field and desktop support, both in the past year. When I worked retail, no matter where I was I ended up basically being the go-to guy for mechanical and computer problems. In more actually useful terms, I've been fixing computers as a hobby for about ten years, and I have a year of professional experience under my belt.
I have A+ and Network+ certifications, experience working with all Windows operating systems, and some experience with Linux and MacOS systems as well. I've fixed so many printers that I'm starting to have flashbacks. I've also done my own oil changes.
What I'm looking for: I love to fix things. Let me fix your computers. I'll put a hand on them, and they'll start working again. I want to be a computer support technician, it is what I am for.
What I'm not looking for: Phone support. I can do some, but put me in a call center and I will flop about like a fish out of water. I'm very hands-on.
Where I live: Alexandria, VA.
Where I'm looking: The greater DC metro area. Priority goes to the Virginia side, but I don't mind a commute. I would like to get home before dinner time.
When can I start: Immediately.
Requirements: I'd like to get a lunch break. I'd really like not to have to work out of my car. Full-time employment is great, but if all you have is a part-time position, I could still work it out.
How do I contact you? Fire off an e-mail to tcgiant at tcgiant dot com. I will happily send my resume out to anyone who asks politely.

I said come in!

Your company sounds like the kind of place I'm looking to work for as a developer. Although I noticed that the job title has the word senior in it. In terms of experience, I don't believe I'm at the senior level yet. I have about 2 years of professional experience developing.

I'd like to think I make up for it with my love of developing. I mainly work in PHP, but I've also been playing around with Android development. Even going to start working on a openGL-based app to present at the local Android meetup.

We've been looking forever for a good Senior .NET Web Developer in Las Vegas, NV I think we still are.

Who we are: The leading company in providing automated solutions to small-to-medium managed service providers and IT systems management companies. We're a small company that provides a strictly .NET solution to managed service providers and enterprises who want an efficient and automated solution to managing their IT resources. We have customers worldwide and are expanding at a healthy rate for a small company. Specifically, we provide a solution to manage all computers, mobile devices, etc., in company IT environments/outsourced MSPs all over the world in just about any capacity you could imagine.

Location: Henderson, NV
What we do: We write software to make the lives of those who manage company/client IT resources less hellish.
When: Yesterday
Requirements:

In spite of our official job description, if you manage to internet detective it, we are looking for someone with a strong .NET background (and those interested in working in what is mostly up-to-date technologies) as well as good SQL experience and experience with ASP.NET and javascript frameworks (ExtJS in particular although the open positions are not really focused on this). We're currently in a push to squeeze performance out of the system so if you are a wizard at SQL queries or are completely anal about optimizing C# you will get to the head of the pack. If you have experience in converting hilariously inefficient classic ASP to ASP.NET code, you're even more set.

We're a small company that is growing rapidly in the Vegas area. Because we're small, you'll have to be prepared to wear a lot of hats and deal with a lot of areas, from talking directly to the president as well as dealing with angry customers. It's a demanding job but it's really cool work and you get to see the direct impact that your work makes with your customers. And, if you're in the Las Vegas area, you are not going to find a job like this unless you go to work at Zappos.

The compensation package is also well above what you will find in this city for this type of work. We also have no vacation/sick leave policy so as long as you don't abuse it you can work from home or take time off as needed. We don't provide relocation for any reason apparently but if you are looking for a job and are qualified and within a few hundred miles this is definitely a good place to consider. U-hauls are cheap ok

If you are interested please send your resume to mjmurray@gmail.com and I will get it in the right hands ASAP.

That is treason, Johnny!

Fun Shoe
My company is hiring! Come and work with us!

Who are we?
We are an IT consulting firm, and we work primarily in implementations of HP's and BMC's business applications. I'd prefer not to name names here, but I'll be happy to in a less public forum. Generally our customers either don't have the manpower or the expertise to build these systems out themselves, so they hire us to do it for them. The result of this is that we do all the designing and building of systems, and leave the maintenance and support to the customer after we're done (i.e. we do the fun stuff, they do the boring stuff).

Where are we?
Anywhere you want to be! The company is based in northern New Jersey, but almost all of our employees are elsewhere. I work remotely full time, aside from occasional client site visits (about once a month on average). Most of us are in the US, but we have at least a few people from Canada as well. No one else from out of the country that I'm aware of, but I know there's a possibility of some overseas work in the future.

What are we looking for?
I'm not very involved with the BMC side of the house, but for HP we are mostly looking for Server Automation, Operations Orchestration and Cloud Services Automation people. Network Automation and UCMDB would be great to have also, along with experience with vmware and basic Windows/Linux administration skills. A programming background is very helpful, but not required by any means.

How do I apply?
PM or email; username at gmail.

Anything else I should know?
My company's been around for about 20 years or so, and we're currently growing pretty quickly. My manager's been with the company for coming on two years, and our team has grown from about seven people to over 20 in that time. There are plenty of opportunities for us out there, so our manpower is the limiting factor. Pay's good, benefits are good, and we're just a pretty good bunch of people in general. Also, I am not the hiring manager, but I can help you get in touch with them. Full disclosure: if you accept an offer and stick around for however long it is, I would get a referral bonus.

I am moving to Seattle, WA this June and I'm starting to look for a job up there.

My experience: 8+ years in software development doing C#, VB6, and SSIS primarily. Some ASP/C++ at a previous job. It's mostly been keeping the lights on in our internal tools (C#, VB.NET, and VB6) with a lot of SQL Server Integration Services importing data from third party vendors into our backend.
What I'm looking for: I'm looking for a fun place to work there I can keep doing software development. I'd like to get back into web development again.
What I'm NOT looking for: Management position
Where I live: Orlando, FL
Where I'm looking: Seattle, WA
When I can start: If given relocation benefits I can be there in about 3 weeks. Two weeks notice plus a week to get my life together. If no relocation benefits the time frame is negotiable

New Grad job seeker here!

My experience: I've just graduated with an MS in Physics with a concentration in Astronomy. I have 1+ years of experience at a laser-based instrumentation company as first a Research Technician (2 months), then a Development and Applications Associate (1 year). I have 4+ years of experience doing academic research in Physics and Astronomy. I've also been employed as a Physics lab instructor (2 semesters) and a TA (3 years).

Experience keywords: Tech support, technical writing, on-site customer installs, training, and repair, C and C++, Linux, Unix, shell scripting, IDL (Interactive Data Language- it's an Astronomy-specific language similar to Python), data mining, neural networks, statistical analysis, large data sets, image processing, data visualization. I'm currently in the process of learning Python and Django.

What I'm looking for: Data Analyst, Research and Development, and programming jobs. I realize I don't have any work experience as a programmer, but I discovered a love of coding while working on my degree and I'd love to find a job where I can develop my skills in this area.

What I'm NOT looking for: Entirely phone-based tech support jobs. I am willing to work in tech support again, but I'd like to have responsibilities other than just answering the phone (like visiting customer sites, doing installs, working on product applications, etc.).

k2theman -

I don't know if you like downtown or not but I've been seeing a lot of activity from the social game companies in Vancouver lately. Like 3 of my friends in the last couple of weeks have been hired by Intelligent Ape, DeNA, etc. You might want to look into it since your background in game infrastructure could be even more important to them than someone like EA. Most of them are probably all about the LAMP but you might luck out.

Job Opening - Columbus, OH

I'm leaving my current job for something slightly more in line with what I want to do, so, there's a job opening happening at my company. If you have Javascript and C#/ASP.NET knowledge, then you are probably a good fit. Seriously this is a great job with good pay and benefits. I know that Columbus Ohio has about a million open job positions and about 5 people total available for them right now, but if you're looking for a job around here, or just graduated, or want a new/better job, contact me via PM here, or email me at my username at gmail.

non-operational.
I'm looking to relocate in the near future, so I figured I'd toss my credentials up here ahead of time. Relocation seems to be a catch 22...you don't want to move without a job, but no one wants to deal with non-local applicants. Any tips? At this point I'm just planning to move and hope for the best.

Job Seeker

My experience: 2 years as a Linux server tech/VOIP admin. I didn't get too indepth, but I've got a good knowledge of basic admin tasks, server builds and OS installs. Also some pretty niche experience with Asterisk.
What I'm looking for: Some kind of junior level Linux admin or server technician that will let me dig deeper into Linux. I could probably be convinced to get into a support role at a hosting company where I'd be supporting users on a Linux environment.
What I'm NOT looking for: Entry level help desk
Where I live: Louisville, KY
Where I'm looking: Los Angeles and surrounding areas.
When I can start: Pretty much as soon as possible, given appropriate notice for my current employer
Requirements: Health insurance, full time.

I tossed you a resume via email, I would love to help you get that bonus.

Also, I feel it prudent to make a general post that I am a Job Seeker. I'm currently living in College Station, TX, but am open to relocation, though a local or mostly-telecommute job would be preferable. I have broad experience with many different aspects of IT, from troubleshooting PC's and networks to providing remote support and troubleshooting. Most of my experience is with PC's (Windows & Linux), but I do have some light Mac experience as well. I have built networks from the ground up, including laying and terminating the cables and building and configuring the workstations and servers. I have mild experience with scripting/programming, and can write "Hello World" programs in at least 5 languages (this is to say, I am familiar with the needs and capabilities of programming, though I am by no means a programmer myself). I've not been employed in IT recently due to several family emergencies culminating in me moving in with my grandmother to keep an eye on her health in a town with no good IT prospects, so I spent a year taking classes and working part time. My grandmother is now in better health and I am ready to move on to making some money and expanding my education.

Please Sam, don't use the word 'acumen' again.
OP, could you pull down my old post from the OP? I'm not at that company anymore.

My new employer is looking for some experienced HCIS integration people. HL7/CCD experience required.

We're in Providence, RI (So I guess you could call this MA or RI)

I have PMs if anyone would like to know more.
