adept posted:He also told me that it was only a cost of around $3000 to get me a clearance Sorry to derail the thread a bit, but from everything that I've heard they cost much, much more that 3 grand. Unless its a confidential which isn't more than a criminal and background/credit check. From what I've heard it can cost anywhere from 30-150k (edit...looked this up, from what i can find on the internet its more like 4000-20,000 depending on circumstances, I guess word of mouth at work isn't worth much) to get the clearance through (it's a sometimes year long process) I could be wrong on this but that's the word from my employer. Anyways, If you can get a TS clearance or at least Secret clearance with a job take it. It'll open a lot of opportunities should you ever want to change jobs in the future. They are usually good for a few years. Plinkey fucked around with this message at 06:21 on Mar 6, 2009 |

We've apparently got a couple of Jobs open in the MD (Baltimore) area. Posting says four positions. I could throw your resumes into the system if anyone is interested. They are very, very good with relocation assistance. (Pay for hotel for 30 days after hire date starting the night before your first day so you can find an apartment/housing. All food paid for during that time also.) And it's FE&S which means you'll get to travel if you want to (sweet, sweet per diem). quote:
...and some non SW FE&S openings. These might overlap, I really have no idea. I'd assume they are looking for mostly EEs for these. quote:Business Sector Shoot my a PM or Email: zachary (dot) schmook at gmail. The basically way that the referral system works: You give me your resume and I upload it to our internal careers application. Then you'll get an email to make a profile and fill out a bunch of questions, brush up the resume...etc, and apply for specific jobs that are in the system.

Walked posted:Seeing the same issue down in Northern VA. You would think $65k + security clearance would net some nice possibilities, but nothing but junk. Good luck, its a wasteland in the Metro DC area. Well, isn't unemployment of the types candidates you're looking for in the area (I assume BS/MS, technical) pretty low in the Baltimore to DC to everywhere else? Baltimore shows about 7.5% (total) and DC around 6.5% (total) based on BLS. Also if you factor in that the unemployment rate for Bachelors or higher was like 4.6% (2009). It seems like there should still be some jobs for people looking, but I guess that any job opening could be getting flooded with applications of people who don't fit the qualifications.

revmoo posted:I was interviewing for a contract position the other day and found out the temp agency was taking a 50% cut. Is that about normal? I just interviewed for a contract position (Electrical Engineering and Software Development) and if it does come through they'd pay me something like $55 an hour and charge around $90 an hour to the client. I have no idea what the going rates are.

My boss just sent me an email and my company is doing some pretty heavy hiring right now for Java Developers from entry level to mid/upper level, System Integrators and SOA (Service Oriented Arch.). There are at least 18 total job openings and something like 2050 total in the jobs system which you can look at after you get an account. Most of these openings are for either CNS/ATM (Communication, Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Monitoring) or C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance). Doing software development or related activities. Most positions also require some level of clearance which the company might help you obtain depending on the job. If you don't have clearance don't let it stop you from applying. I don't work directly in either of these areas so I can't really comment on what you would do day to day. I also believe that all of the openings are in the Baltimore area. We also get every other Friday off. I took out all references to the actual company name but if you PM/email me I'll tell you who it is. Here are the openings: code:
Java / Enterprise Edition Developer: quote:Business Sector Software/System Integration Specialist: quote:Business Sector SOA Architect 5: quote:Business Sector SOA Security Engineer 4: quote:Business Sector The referral system is a bit wonky. Send me a PM or email (zachary.schmook at the google mails) for more info on the steps. Basically to refer you I need a copy of your resume with all your contact info. I go into the employee side of the system and put your info it. You get an email saying something like "Click here to login to finish your profile" then the account is under your control and you can apply for any of the jobs in addition to the one that I referred you for. It's a pretty awful system but if you follow the directions your resume gets to the right people. Also the usual experience levels for the bands are as follows: Band 1 - Directly out of undergrad with 0-1 year. Band 2 - 2-4 years. Band 3 - 5-6ish years. Band 4 - 8ish+ - No idea, this is more based on experience and skills.

Basically, if you match the skill set that they are looking for and they don't have to pay for your clearance. E: if you already have a clearance you're not going to cost the company nine months to a year of salary at like 150k while you sit around and don't work on the things they hired you for. Rex-Goliath posted:HR requiring degrees for hiring is super common throughout the industry I'm not understanding why some people are freaking out about it. Have some of you genuinely never come across this before? Yeah, it's a thing, but asking for specific skills that aren't taught in any university let alone a masters program is kinda like 'wtf' It's a catch-22 that most hiring/HR departments don't realize they are even putting out there. It's the classic we need someone with 10 years of a 5 year old technology. Plinkey fucked around with this message at 04:40 on Jun 6, 2018 |

We have about 16 product development positions open now and probably starting in the new year, they all have at least one remote spot. We are mostly an MS shop, so C#/SQL...etc. With some bigdata/NOSQL components, but I haven't personally worked with much of that yet. Internet marketing, think emails, product recommendations, predictive analytics...etc. I believe over black friday and cyber monday we sent something like 1.4 billion emails and I forget how many texts, it's fast paced and interesting work (first place that I've been that has a good unit test practice in place) and all of the devs are really good. The downside is, if you can't get a remote spot and are interested you'd need to be in south eastern PA, we are currently all remote and there are rumors that we might stay that way even after the vaccine is distributed to everyone (but I can't confirm any of that yet). It's a pretty good place to work, the company and CEO are big on making it feel like a big family (winter party, summer family day, random cookouts during the summer), christmas bonus based on years of employment, very good vacation policy (2 weeks your first year, 3 weeks after your first full year, 4 weeks after 5 years I think, your birthday off), monthly gym reimbursement. Lots of room to grow no matter what you do. The product/dev team is somewhere around 60ish with probably a 6:1 dev to QA ratio and 15:1 dev to scrum manager ratio, so probably 45ish dedicated devs. If we do every go back to the office, it's modern, subsidized food (all lunches are 6 bucks and way bigger/better than anything you can get close by) and drinks, on site chef/kitchen staff/coffee shop/gym. They have also started a new initiative to upgrade all of the developer machines to not completely suck. If you have a good idea there won't be anyone stopping you from trying to implement it. Up until this year we also had an 'innovation fair/hackathon' every December into January where employees self organize into small teams and use production data to pitch new ideas (2-3 days of paid time to work only on your project), they are all heard by the entire executive team and then voted on by all employees. The top ideas either from the executive team or through voting are actually put on the roadmap to be implemented. I'm not posting the company name here, because it's a small town and small company and don't really want where I work associated with my SA account, so shoot me a PM and I can send you the careers site. Here are the openings: quote:Director, Data Engineering quote:Product Manager, Data & Analytics quote:Scrum Master quote:Senior Data Software Engineer quote:Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) quote:Software Development Manager quote:Software Engineer Plinkey fucked around with this message at 00:50 on Dec 17, 2020 |
