Looking for Full-time Cisco engineer

Who we are: We're an MSP located on Long Island, NY. We have 5 datacenters and do anything from monitoring to fully managed server maintenance.

Location: Long Island, NY - Suffolk County
Approximate opening date: Oct 18th

I know a few of the DirectTV admins by name, they've all been a little crazy so far - one particular guy does not start a phone conversation with a formal greeting, he just starts talking about the reason he called.

I also got my foot into IT by networking, a person on this forum got me an interview and had sent me a review of a lot of the technical questions they'd ask me on the interview, 5 years later I'm a network engineer woowoo

This can't be stressed enough. I just had an interview where they asked me a bunch of technical questions and then escorted me out without letting me ask questions or talk about myself at all. Also, they want me to work for 15k/year. If they call back, I'm going to laugh at them over the phone.

Where exactly do you live that a company can believe you can sustain on 15k a year?

I am leaving my company Friday, so they are looking for a replacement network engineer

Who We Are: Financial Brokerage in downtown NYC

What we're looking for: A network engineer with f5 experience, preferably with Nexus experience.

Relevant Qualifications: Experience with f5 and Nexus would be ideal, they would probably consider anyone good with campus switching experience - Existing infrastructure is a bunch of 6500's, 3750-X, ASA's, Cisco ACE but they are moving to Nexus 7k/2k and f5 load balancers

Why you'd want to work here: For finance it is really easy and the coworkers are great. I don't remember the last time I had to answer my phone to field a call and your boss does all the on-call. You sit in a spot where you can tunnel a connection to your house and surf the internet all day and no one would be able to see.

Requirements: Campus switching experience, be a Normal Person®, no telecommuting (but you can work from home sometimes)

Other poo poo: They pay well I suppose, if they extended an offer they will lowball but it is so hard to find good talent that they would be willing to pay about 110k/yr for the right person. Their bonuses are 10 - 15% of your base pay

Contact me: PM

One of our wireless engineers took a full-time position at the company we are contracted to so we are looking to hire another contractor in a wireless engineer position

Where are we: Long Island, NY
Who we are: Our contract is with a large ISP in the NY area, but you will need to be living on long island to commute easily
What we are looking for: Someone familiar with enterprise networks and wireless infrastructure - preferably with a few years of experience or CCNP and has worked on Cisco WLC's. You will be working on a wireless rail project where we are installing and supporting the backend of a 100k+ AP deployment along the railway. The contract is set to run out past 2016 so this is a long term contracting position. The main company also frequently hires the contractors if they are good enough. You are paid hourly, no PTO and limited medical, but from what I've heard all of us are pulling 6 figures so the money is good for the area (usually 6 figures here requires a NYC commute)

Job posting: PM me if you;re interested and I'll send you my e-mail to send your resume.

What we don't want: No newbies, we need people with experience unfortunately - this is probably one of the most complex networks in the world and is utilizing carrier equipment like ASR9k's, ASR 1k's, and NX-OS so we need someone with familiarity.

Job-seeking goons: IT Recruiter in Richmond, VA here. PM me if you're interested in anything IT-wise here in Richmond. I also do some work in DC.

I have a question for you if you don't mind. I work in "high level" networking right now (SP Wifi with a lot of enterprise experience behind it) and want to continue contracting after my current project ends. I'm connected to a lot of recruiters on linkedin, is it as easy as posting "Easy placement, looking for contracting job preferably in NY (out of state okay as long as travel arrangements expensed) around $120/hr" on there and I will get contacted about them or do I have to reach out further?

I'll admit that most of my experience is in local market where building long-term relationships is key, so my experience marketing or putting to work travelling consultants is a bit limited. I will say though that the job search is a lot like dating, and as such you don't want to put it all out there right away, at least in regards to $$. Generate the interest first, and ask them what they can pay. Your $120/hr is probably going to be on the high side most times, but who knows... It's good to have that number in your head as your base line though and I wouldn't hesitate to state it on the phone if asked, but I wouldn't blast it out there on LI.

Anyway, I could talk all day about negotiation. LinkedIn is a great tool though, and I would really look into the groups if you haven't already. A good thing to do is change your current position to "seeking new contract", so when people search you they immediately see you're available.

Also, what do you mean by "easy placement"? That you are a really qualified candidate? That you will go anywhere?

As far as recruiters go, I would really work to establish relationships with a few good ones that specialize in your area. It may take some trial and error to find out who the good ones are, and it's a lot more precarious for you when you aren't meeting them in person, so YMMV.

Sorry, crazy day here so I feel like I'm rambling.

Great, thanks. Easy placement as in the qualifications, I'm just iterating what I've been told a few times in the past. I am in a bit of groups related to what I work with which is why I guess I get so much attention on LI.

JOB POSTING

Who are we looking for?
I am leaving my position as a contractor for career advancement and am looking to help fill the spot for the group. The title is "Senior Wireless Engineer" but it is really a senior network engineer role in a service provider wifi department.

Who are we?
Cablevision is the client, I work as a W2 contractor for a firm who bills out to Cablevision. You will be working for the same firm. Cablevision has the largest SP Wifi deployment in the world, with 136,000 Cisco Indoor/Outdoor AP's and 1.3 Million "home as a hotspot" AP's (not cisco) which broadcast the same SSID, all of these AP's allow clients to roam to each other through a converged network. You will be primarily supporting that converged network. It's a great group of guys, a great boss and awesome technology, the only pitfall is it's big business so sometimes things go slow, or they go way too fast because no one knows what the hell is going on and they wasted a lot of time waiting for someone to step up and actually do something.

Where are we?
Long Island, NY - Not a remote opportunity

Job responsibilities?:
(Simplified)

Configure, install, and support SP Networking equipment. We run a lot of ASR9922 / ASR9010 / ASR1013 (for carrier grade NAT) in our core, along with 7600's in our legacy modules. We also have a lot of Nexus 3k's and Nexus 7k's. All of our AP's backhaul to Cisco 8510 and 8540 wireless controllers. Our current project is turning all of our 120Gb etherchannels into 100Gb single interfaces and some other cool stuff but I'm under NDA for that.

We have Cisco Advanced Services on site and a weekly discussion with Cisco HTTS for any of the frequent crash/bug cases that are opened on our equipment. You will have to work with them uploading logs/tracebacks/troubleshooting. We also received about 900 splunk alarms per day that need to be looked at to make sure it's not all white noise.

When?
The job will be available in two weeks but they want to start interviewing ASAP

Skills?:

Essential-
CCNP level skillset with IOS (Basically 8 - 10 years exp)
Wireless controller experience

Bonus-
IOS-XE exp
IOS-XR exp
MP-BGP exp
Programming experience in python/php
Experience with SevOne/Splunk/NetScout/Fluke

Benefits include:
Contractor so lol. You are a W2 contractor though which includes some expensive rear end medical.
Equal or higher than city wages without having to work in the city. I have a 10 minute commute and make more than I ever would have in Manhattan
Not a benefit to you per se but this department has a really large budget because they are "all in" on wifi, we are usually on the bleeding edge of wifi tech and sometimes R&S tech. We were the first order of ASR1013 100Gb cards, and we are constantly updating/upgrading to support the scale this network is.
The contractors have indefinite contracts, you would only really lose it if you were bad at your job.

Were looking to backfill my position since I'm leaving for a WFH role, I'm seeing if anyone is interested here.

The position is an architect/engineering role specific to Wi-Fi and Mobile Wireless.

The plant is all Cisco unified wireless local and flexconnect with the potential to be migrated to Aruba soon (you would be responsible for driving that decision). Requires a lot of knowledge about RF and controller operations but you wont be doing site surveys. Our team certifies all features/software/hardware so you need to know how RF really works. Basically working in a RF lab, making presentations, meeting with vendors, and dictating to the company how to manage the wireless network.

Theres also some work going in the 5G realm that's real cutting edge but theres not as much requirement to know anything about it and just learn it on the job.

It's a full-time onsite role in NYC for a large bank and is a contracting role not tied to a opex project (eg: no end date for the contract)

Its $120/hr so before holidays it comes out to about 250k/yr

You can message me privately if you're interested

Location: Remote

Company type: cybersecurity

I'm looking to add another Infrastructure Engineer to my team in the near future.

We are a cloud native company, our main infra is in AWS but we have significant spend (millions per year) in GCP and need someone who is very familiar with GCP, Terraform, and Gitlab CI/CD.

We run all bleeding edge stuff so there would be no lack of interesting stuff to get involved in. A short example of our technology stack:

- EKS/GKE/AKS
- Gitlab pipelines
- Atlantis w/OPA for Terraform policy enforcement
- Saltstack for config management
- Vault for certs/ssh certs/secrets
- Heavy BigQuery usage

The team itself consists of 3 other engineers, a lead engineer and myself running the show. I am pretty hands off as a manager and let people operate at their own pace while also making sure you have no roadblocks stopping you from completing whatever you're working on, you'll typically find me spending more time doing engineering work than management. Our role is to help the different dev teams do their job while enforcing our security mandates and managing full lifecycle of all of the shared services.

The role itself isn't particularly stressful, we don't get yelled at, there is a rolling 1 week off, 4 weeks off on-call that is very light, and since everything is in the cloud there's no middle of the night drives to the data center.

Some company perks include unlimited PTO (that I encourage people to use), $0 medical, pet insurance, and 4% 401k match. Pay is DOE but 150k is likely where HR is going to tell me my budget is.

PM if interested as the job isn't posted yet until I get final approval from the CEO.

We're hiring for a DevOps position on my team, junior - mid-level. It's currently a team of 5 engineers + me as the Head of the team. This is a cybersecurity company.

- 100% remote, unlimited PTO, free medical for the employee (but not family), pre-IPO company (but well out of the startup phase)

- All of our infrastructure is in AWS, GCP, and Azure, with the bulk of it in AWS.

- We are heavy in IaC using terraform. There's some stuff not terraformed but we are actively trying to move any of that old stuff into code.

- AKS/EKS/GKE used pretty extensively, and all of our clusters are managed via gitlab pipelines so any changes to infrastructure have approvals attached to them. Our team does peer reviewing for most changes.

- Ansible and saltstack for non-kubernetes infrastructure jobs

- Hashicorp Vault for all of our ssh signing, certificates, k/v storage and role assumption

- Python where applicable within our team but other teams are using a wider array of languages.

- Network is fairly complex for a cloud-centric company since we are paranoid and perform inspection on almost all traffic east-west and egress.

I'm missing stuff, but we are a pretty cutting edge shop, my team is always working on interesting tech.

We're looking for someone who has some experience with these technologies (not necessarily everything), but still early in their career as my team is fairly top heavy with senior engineers and I would like to be able to have a few of them be more responsible with architecture and design rather than day to day operations.

Salary is DOE, but over 100k plus what we cant agree on with salary can be made up with in equity. I've already hired a goon in the past and they haven't quit so I assume the job is somewhat good and cool. PM me if interested.
