How about we all get even more depressed and think about the gimmick of the next opponent he'll fight? Can it be even more terrible than the current one? If Ippo hadn't already faced a black boxer that made everyone poo poo themselves then I'd suggest that but who knows. Some solace to be taken from this fight is that it will likely end Woli's career.

I wonder which is more likely, Miyata beats Martinez and Ippo then defeats him or Ippo beats Martinez and Miyata. I'd expect the series to end with Ippo finally fighting Miyata I suppose its just a case of whether its taking the title or a defense. On the other hand it could just have Ippo defending as undisputed champion so who knows.

Reading the manga gives me the impression the mangaka is a virgin just because god loving drat I'm sick of Ippo being terrible with women and I can't imagine anyone with any experience would drag it out so long.

While Baki does have a LOT of homoerotic posing it is still awesome. The fight at the end of the second series is great because they're literally just smashing each other in the face for the entire fight. Its really over the top but never pretended not to be and seeing all the different styles its just fun. That and Yujiro is a great villain because he's a complete bastard always. I'm not really sure why you have such a big issue with Pickle because Baki has always been that stupid. I mean poo poo you see someone kill a guy by blowing into his ear having the brains squirt out the other side long before Pickle shows up. I keep up with that, but its more MMA and is slightly over that line of realistic that I feel it should more go in the seinen thread. That and the first 42 volume series only has like 13 volumes scanned so you have to skip massive amounts.

Its funny, at first I thought the idea of someone becoming a boxer at 27 is a totally ridiculous idea and I mean, him becoming "The Best Ever" is, but its probably not all that unreasonable anymore. I mean poo poo, Floyd Mayweather is 34 and considered one of the best in the world and potentially ever and that would never have happened 30 years ago. So either fitness levels and sports science have improved hugely or boxing has dropped in quality massively. Its both.

I mean, the whole point of RRR is a guy joins a gym to get fit, happens to have a previous world champ who sees something special in him even if they are the same age. Of course he's going to become world champ

We're on volume 4 and it was 10 volumes total. It'll end up with him world champ starting boxing at 27 and still be more believable than Ippo (ignore all 40 year old boxers making title challenges currently).
