Anyone know why Broken Sword 1 isn't on GOG yet? Seems strange that they have both 2 and 3, but not 1.

It's very interesting to see actual competition in the DD market. I hope this will continue and push the prices down a bit more in general.

I've played a bit of Arx Fatalis now, about to enter the 4th dungeon level, but is the magic system supposed to suck so extremely? Only a fraction of the gestures I do are recognized, and it's a pain in the rear end to recreate the quickspells every time you use them. I also seem to use my sword more than my spells for the most part. Do any of you have hints for making the magic user experience more tolerable, does spells get better and more useful later in the game, or should I just reroll as a warrior type instead? Apart from that, the game is very good. I am very impressed with how much they have managed to pack in just the three levels I've seen so far, and it really feels like an Ultima Underworld game where someone took all the game text and just did a word-replace on 'Avatar'.

I'm considering just restarting the game on easy difficulty and going berserk, which is half the fun and probably much funnier when I don't have to worry about my health all the time. As the week progresses, will previously open areas close down?

I bet they will just keep the packages as they are. Why fix something that is not broken, and all that. I don't wanna be the guy that tests all GOG games again every time there's a new DOSBox release.

For $6 I see redownloading games as a bonus, not a right. I backup my poo poo, so I don't need it. And I can guarantee you that in 50 years gog.com will be gone - will you still complain about them "lying" about the unlimited redownloads then?

This reminds me - apparently the best way to play the Freespace games is with a stick, but as I don't have one of those, how does it play with mouse+KB, or alternatively, a 360 gamepad?

I have no idea why people praise the Earthworm Jim games. From the 10 minutes I spent with the first game it seemed like a mediocre generic platformer. Imprecise jumping and enemies that are impossible to hit? Is this supposed to be fun? At least it was only $3.

The "regular" sales they have with $1 or 10-25% off just seem useless. If I didn't want to buy it for $6, my threshold for buying won't be $5. I would prefer more stuff like the one year anniversary sale and bundles.

raezr posted:Psychonauts would be so much better if it let you map Xbox controller triggers to their proper functions. Even games like Prince of Persia let you do that. (I know there are third party drivers that get around the problem, but I'm stupid and/or they don't want to play nice with my pc for some reason) It all depends on whether the game is able to recognize the controller as a 360 controller or just a normal gamepad. For some unknown reason, Microsoft decided that the triggers should function as an analog axis, so pressing both the left and right trigger fully is the same as not pressing any trigger at all. However, if the game does some 360-controller-only magic, it works. The custom drivers do work, but it's a bit of a hassle to get them up and running properly.

Also, there are a lot of free VM solutions: VirtualBox is free, VirtualPC was free (not sure if MS has removed it since it's integrated in Win7) and VMWare has their Player software which cannot create images, but can use existing ones.

Mr.Hotkeys posted:Which is great so long as its feasible, and if what's going on right now is a sign that they're DRM-free approach lost feasibility, DRM like Steam's is not a terrible alternative. The only thing I worry about is having two clients running for two different things all the time (since Steam runs 24/7 on my computer) so if they do go this route I hope it'd be reasonably lightweight. I don't think DRM/no DRM comes down to lack of feasibility. I must admit I don't have stats for it, but I am willing to bet that DRM (or lack thereof) doesn't matter one bit when it comes to how often a game gets pirated. What it comes down to is that someone in management says "We must have DRM to protect our property!".

If you're so paranoid about data integrity, just use QuickPAR. Then back up to Amazon/Dropbox/Whatever and keep files both on disk and burn them to a DVD. It would then take an act of divine assholery for you to lose all three copies at once, and you're guaranteed the integity (and can even recover even if some blocks on the HD/DVD has gone bad).

Offline mode in its current state only lasts 30 days. Sure, they could patch that, but in that case they could patch it in some other, better way anyway. Also, people are referring to how Valve has promised to patch this if they go under, but when did they last make this promise? Because I remember them saying it years ago, when the Steam catalog consisted of only Valve games plus Rag Doll Kung Fu. Things have changed since then.
