Yes, the exchange is entirely believalbe. I was convinced that a group of clear headed individuals would risk their lives for the protagonist who, in the span of about five minutes, becomes Hitler.

Arneson is the crappy fiction writer to Gygax's rules sperging. It was the perfect marriage for the mid 1970s. Cause you could either throw your money into a bitchin wizard painted on the side of your van or a new white polyester jump suit (that doesn't come sized for "Fat Nerd").

The flavor is in roleplaying someone with a 16 con different than someone with a 17 con, right? Snipe content: While not exactly grog, this is one of my favorite threads on the WotC forums from the last week or so: quote:The character builder is a wonderful tool. One that make creation so easy.

What the gently caress is that even supposed to mean? Like I get the gist of it (anything made after 3.5 is a video game) but the sentences don't parse right.

All it takes is for the level 1 newbie to go: "Color spray sounds fun!" Or how about : Cool! Wildshape! I think I'll play Druid! or maybe: I like the idea of a Cruisader so I think I'll play Cleric but not worry so much about healy spells.

quote:If someone says that NFL Football and Arena Football are pretty similar games, it won't get you very far to say, "The ball is made from different materials; the uniforms aren't the same; the field is shorter (and it's called an arena, totally different); the uprights are narrower; and you can do things in arena football that would get you penalized in the NFL." Just look at this guy. quote:dissociated mechanics One day this retarded theory will be shown for what it is and on that day, all of grogdom will weep.

quote:You're either very, very right or very, very wrong on what you think dissociative mechanics actually is. Near as I can tell I'm right. I mean by this guys dumb reasoning, all RPGs ever use dissociated mechanics. Ever. Because by their nature, they are dissociated from the activities they represent. Otherwise, we would actually be doing the things the game represents. So quibbling about healing surges but not balking at hp in general is really, really dumb as is shouting about dailys for martial classes but not vancian casting.

(What modern academia is pleased to call a social contact, because it can't use ordinary plain English.) Yeah because "established expectations with about how the game will run." is much simpler and plainer than "social contract". It just rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?

Not sure if this is technically grog but holy poo poo: Not everyone can game, just a fact of life. Used to do dinner get togethers with a long time friends couple (since moved out of town though). The husband, a very nice guy, but as dim as the day is long. Makes the perfect factory worker. Good as a worker, just not much between the ears. Give him a simple task and he's ok slogging away at it. He always lamented how I always seemed to end up winning at anything we did. Always won at Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit whatever game we played. It gets old listening to him complain though. So eventually it just became the rule, dinner was served, then myself and the two wives would watch TV or something and he crashes on the sofa and falls asleep Guy has more in common with a good watch dog than most anything else hehe
