It was a trip to get going again, not going to lie. It's a major struggle to just get my body to do the things it used to do - as expected but maybe not to this extent. It's like I still have the muscle-memory but don't have the muscles/skeleton/body for those memories to make sense of the situation now. Also, injuries are no joke. A few years ago I broke a vertibrae biking (I live in a mountain town and skiing and mountain biking are my main things) and I still have to be really careful with that. And one of the first things I did when getting back on the skateboard was strain my achilles tendon by simply pushing around too hard without warming up. Even this morning, I ate poo poo trying to ollie over something higher than usual. Classic hook my back truck and land over the obstacle, on my hip and elbow. Hand is still a bit tingly/numb and I'm limping around the house. Still fuckin awesome though. Rot fucked around with this message at 01:19 on Nov 12, 2025 |

All the kids make fun of the old guy forever doing rock to fakie on the mini ramp but he’s having the time of his life.

I usually don't like mega ramp stuff, I find it is a bit circus-ey or something. This however, is just incredible, had to rewatch a few things to really appreciate them. There's regular ramp and park stuff too btw. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drGU51t16bE

Good thing I had it on mute. “Zombie” sure is a pick, but the park skating was pretty sick. Mega ramp is somehow kinda boring admittedly. Too much snow to have much hope of skating this winter, but it’s all good. Haven’t 100% recovered from consecutive slams two weeks back.

I can appreciate what those lunatics do from an athletics/gymnastics/bravery standpoint and it's a crazy stunt, but it doesn't really connect to me in the same way as "actual skateboarding". HOWEVER Heath Kirchart's mega ramp bit in Stay Gold is amazing, because Heath Kirchart is amazing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABM5-aa1mzI

I'm gonna build a form and pour a slappy curb for a spot near my house Given that I've watched a ton of videos on it and have some general ideas on how to do it, anyone have any tips or things to avoid? Does cooking oil work as a form release agent?

Combining those last two posts in my head for the mega-slappy where there is a thousand foot curb at the bottom of the roll in instead

Vegetable oil worked perfectly. My pour leaves a little to be desired but nothing a can of bondo can't fix. Got a nice four foot curb to work on now. Hell yeah.

Been following this game for years and it has turned out to be even better than I thought. It's not your average skate game, it's very weird, trippy and unique. Art style is wild and the music (by Blood Cultures) is worked it incredibly well. It has a demo too. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1263240/Skate_Story/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Je1WXy3T6o

I’m enjoying the demo for sure. I thought it’d be THPS controls, but it’s way different. Powerslides!

The fact that the first trick you get is a powerslide got me right in the feels. Doesn't seem to have no complies though, but otherwise it is very much like it has been designed to delight me nearly perfectly. A friend says it has more in common with a K-hole than it does Skate, and I can't disagree lol. YerDa Zabam fucked around with this message at 09:01 on Dec 9, 2025 |

Shut the gently caress up! I obviously can't speak to what your experience would be exactly, and don't mean to sound like I'm mansplaining skating to you or trying to come across like I have any idea what you experience, but I've seen some completely uncoordinated people with absolutely no inherent balance, sense of momentum, etc, be able to push around and enjoy pumping through a skate park. How are you on a bike/skis/snowboard? A complete skateboard is cheap enough that I can't help but feel you should at least give it a go. You and I are the same distance from the Joslins.

Everyone should get on a skateboard tbh.

I’m completely fine on a bike, never tried the others. I rollerbladed growing up, so it’s surely not beyond my capacity, just never had the opportunity to learn at all really
