Reading through this thread has encouraged me to get out and about again.
I skated as often as I could for about 8 years, but haven't really been out for the last 4 now.

Got straight back into it this last weekend.
It felt weird dropping in on a miniramp again, and I've got so out of shape it's not funny.

It was good though, I've really missed it.
I feel a homebrew inside miniramp project coming on, the skatepark is a bleak (and wet) place in the Scottish wintertime.

When I was younger I'd just head to any empty car parks and skate kerbs, banks and ledges for hours with a couple of friends. It got me really confident on a board and used to skating real streets.

After that I'd hit the parks first thing in the morning. I don't know what it's like over there, but for a lot of lazy-arse skaters in the UK skating before 11AM is like breaking a secret rule. I'd head down to the bowls at 7 in the morning and I'd have the park to myself for hours.

I'm finding myself doing the same now I'm getting out again.
You can't beat going out on a Sunday evening to an empty out-of-town industrial park for a cruise around or to practice stuff. Finding your own hidden spot is half the fun sometimes.

Just get confident riding your board. Once you've got ollies down and you can skate up and down a street everything else is gravy.

Once you're fine just being on a board, you won't feel weird heading to the parks and popular places. You'll find everyone will be trying to learn something anyway.

Outstanding, some genuine skateboarding royalty!

I was just after a set of those new bright pink, fat Lance Mountain Spitfires for my wider setup.
Can't buy them anywhere over here, ended up with some big 58mm Stu Graham signature spits instead. If we ever get a dry weekend between here and next May I'll introduce them to some Livi concrete :scotland:

E: Those are some proper cool photos as well, you obviously know what you're doing.

Nice! I love a bit of hardware porn.

My 7.75 Heroin "Good Bannanas" deck.

Spanking new 8" Mysterious Al Vs Enuff deck. I liked this series so much I got the rest of them for my wall. They're really bright, but matte painted like Creature decks. They're top printed and clear gripped as well, so they look pretty cool.

I was checking out the impora site this morning to see if there was any new parks near me and apparently Dunblane (little rural place in central Scotland) had a nice concrete park built a while back.

I headed out to find it, which wasn't easy as you have to walk through a park for ages to get near it. it's not signposted and it's hidden in a little depression surrounded by hills.

It's a beauty though, I can't believe it's there. Amazing little concrete park, lovely flow, well made, totally isolated and completely deserted on a beautiful Sunday in May.
Three other guys turned up, they were the locals apparently, friendly bunch, they were telling me that there's just never anyone there.

Took a couple of pics:

Great little place, nice bowl with a roll-in and a spine, little vert quarter, rails, ledges - the lot.
Can't wait to get back already!

Wow, good stuff! I'm living over on the Denny side of Falkirk but I moved here from Stirling.
I skate Falkirk now and again, but it's always mobbed at the weekend. I took a drive past King's Park today to see if it was busy, but it was all fenced off for some reason. It's a shame the bowls are rough as 'cos they're good fun.

I've been on the hunt for a quiet park to skate on the weekend. Dunblane seems perfect. I checked out Cambusbarron and Tillicoultry but they've both just got a couple of metal funboxes. The Tilli park has a big metal quarter on a tiny little bit of rough concrete.

I'm on the lookout for a local wooden miniramp to skate as well. Kippen and Thornhill used to have mellow little ramps but they're long gone. There's still one up the road in Fintry, but it's fenced off and has a hole at the bottom of the tranny, I don't think it'll get fixed. I'm going to head over to Bathgate next weekend. Rumour has it they've got a miniramp at some sports center so I figure it's worth a shot.

Bud! Can you mark this on Google Maps or something? I would definitely take a wee trip to Dunblane to have a shot on this. :)

No probs. The park isn't on Google satellite view yet but I've done a little map:

Click here for the full 1036x884 image.

The closest I could park was the free carpark round the back of the Cathedral. The Cathedral is dead easy to find, it's signposted all over the town. You basically just follow the path from there alongside the river until you get to the kid's playpark. There's a steep gravel hill straight ahead that looks like it goes nowhere, but the park is just at the top on the right hand side.
It looks like a trek but it doesn't take that long to walk to.

I'm going to see if I can get a day off work soon and just spend the day there. The bowl is a bit tighter and more awkward than the one at Perth and I got the fear a bit when skating it, but I fancy learning to skate it properly. It's a great park for practising stuff.

Nice setups! I have to say, I think I still prefer my scabby old Ventures to my new Indys. I need to change the bushings or break them in a bit more or something, they're just not quite as nice yet.

Any of the Scottish locals skated Saughton Park yet? It's looking insane but it's been crammed with bodies since it opened. I need to get out to it on a weekday before the kids break up for the holidays.

BTW, if any of you guys are skating lone wolf and fancy hitting up Dunblane, Saughton or Livi or someplace but feel weird turning up at the park on your own (it's sometimes like walking into a bar in a western), just give us a shout. I'm not competitive or super-hardcore or anything, I just skate for fun.

Those big green Stu Graham spits I got earlier in the thread are way too hard for general street skating round here. Those things are even solid at the park, they must be for skating glass or something.
I've been back skating a set of Spitfire Fireriderz which they've not even made for about 100 years... until now (dun dun dun)

New set of Cheapshots. 99 duro compared to the 101 on the Stu's. I'll no longer sound like an escaping shopping trolley or have to duct tape my trousers in place.

What is it with wheel companies nowadays not telling you how hard their bloody wheel is? I don't care about your F1 dual duro park formula, a hard, medium or soft would be more helpful you bastards.

Sorry, double post. Looking at the drop-down it seems to be a choice between Cargo and Tracker. They are great fun, I was out for cruise again today. There's some really nice setups in the Cruzer range now, I love the Monster Rob that's 10.7" by 36" with a huge concave, I really fancy one. I think the wider setups come with either Krux or Indys depending on the model, so they're actually pretty cheap completes since it'd set you back over 100 for the trucks and deck alone. I just love the graphics, I actually got another Land Shark as a hanger.

I like the feel of the cruiser so much I've ordered a set of big soft 78a Kyptonics for my street setup so I can go skate some rough brick banks near me and those stony spots I've never been able to ride on.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6-vb20srZI

E: They just turned up today. They're 59mm but I'm riding indy 139 highs so I don't think I'm going to need to put my risers in. Well soft though, you can squish them in your hand. They sit totally flush at the back so it's given me a whole extra exposed 15mm each side of the hanger that my wheels usually slot over. Want to go out and try them, but I think that's the rain on for another couple of weeks.

Fancied a new deck and went for a Heroin shredder because the shape on them is well nice. It's got a touch of the 90's about it, all asymmetrical and cut away at the back. Graphic is a bit pedestrian for a Heroin though.

Clear gripped up top. It looks thinner than the other one here but it's actually 8.25 and the same length.
