Can I get a quick opinion on my first skateboard? I've been loving around on my friend's for the last week or so and enjoying it way too much (despite my newfound abrasions and injuries). In the used market, I'm looking at this or this, and this is nice and cheap for new but I know nothing about the components. I tried stopping by my local skateshop but they were much more expensive, even for blanks. ![]()

Sirkus posted:I was on a skateboarding trip recently with my friends. We hit up a couple of parks in different towns but the main attraction was our friends barn out in the country. During our 3 day stay there we saw everything from beautiful sun to snow, in May This is going to drive me crazy if I don't ask: what's the second song you use? I have it somewhere in my collection and can't think of the artist for the life of me. Such a good song.

I just learned what a "mall grab" is. Do people actually care about silly things like that?

My wrists were pretty well swollen for the first week or two of learning. If there's one thing you should try to learn first, it's how to fall (roll, don't use your limbs). Keep at it! The second thing you might want to learn is to refrain from trying a trick with which you aren't comfortable yet when a construction worker bugs you to "do a totally sweet trick" because it will "completely make his day". I'm still learning this one, but my tore up palm should provide extra incentive.

At that time freestyle was such a small niche and it was getting him nowhere. I wonder what held him back from just evolving. He could have won contests by just doing huge ollies over poo poo. it's almost like he only cared about doing what he thought was fun and rewarding, instead of chasing fame. Weird.

leica posted:Don't be an rear end. How would adapting his style to street skating be chasing fame? Besides it's called having a discussion. Weird. Woah, I was just being sarcastic. It's all good. There was a lot of influence on the World Industries guys to go street, because that's where the company was really going. Mullen was really stubborn, and clung to his style, while street was being marketed as the next thing. You wonder what would happen if he "ditched that horrible freestyle board and just adapted his tricks to street skating and entered street contests," but that's just not Mullen. He would be throwing away his style. I mean, the guy's street stuff is damned good, but it's not really his bag. He's practically autistic, spending months perfecting a trick. Freestyle just suits him, and seems to be what makes him happy.
