That and the guy whose video was labeled "Rodney Mullen on Bath Salts" are my favorite discoveries in years, glad I found this thread. I've never skated - it would be a miracle if I ever successfully rolled on a board, I'm profoundly deaf from bacterial meningitis so my cochleas are completely shot thus no balance on my feet on wheels - but I've always loved skate videos. My buddy Ryan used to skate at a decent level and was apparently buddies with Sean Malto which is pretty cool. Apparently was there the day he completely busted his face eating poo poo and knocked out a couple of teeth at a Kansas City skate park. Love this one by him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7PyJD1dgkg Criminal Minded fucked around with this message at 02:11 on Sep 24, 2024 |

XIII posted:silenced every hater I never skated (god, I wish - one day I'd like to just be able to learn to roll around and maybe ollie, I have inherently terrible balance from being deaf) but I love skate videos and was surprise to see a lot of backlash today lol. Like my reaction to every pro skater at worst is "This isn't my style but it rules." Meanwhile guys out here on twitter are like IN MY DAY IF SOMEBODY TOOK THEIR SHIRT OFF AFTER HITTING A TRICK...oh really were you and your boys out there a lot bombing El Toro? Shut the gently caress up!

I’m completely fine on a bike, never tried the others. I rollerbladed growing up, so it’s surely not beyond my capacity, just never had the opportunity to learn at all really

As I said before yeah it's dumb to hate on Joslin, amazing stuff, but I've always been a vert guy at heart so I probably would've also given it to Schaar; this was what made me into a real-life skating fan after only knowing it through the THPS games. I know this is a cliche clip that goes around all the time but I *did* watch this poo poo live and it *was* life-changing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXy2mhW9Cwk Every time it comes up on social media I have to rewatch. The fuckling flip off the lip when he's already been going past the time limit is just... That's why Bobby B is my favorite ever hands-down.

Alright...I'll let y'all tell me. I can figure out pads on my own, I will likely not ever go without substantial padding and certainly never will I skate without a helmet (I have a cochlear implant), but what's a good way to figure out a basic board to learn on? Length/width, looseness of bearings, etc. I assume skate shops would love to help me out, but I'll ask y'all for guidance too. I'm gonna set very modest goals for myself especially because I'm not in the shape I used to be in when I was serving tables. I just wanna be able to roll around and navigate basic geography and the world's mildest obstacles to start. Maybe within a year learn to ollie. I'll consider anything else a bonus. Give me some guidance! I should try, why not.
