I miss my slash. All I have right now is my Tamiya Durga. Granted, it's extremely fast and I placed really really well in all the local races I ran this summer, but good GOD DOES THE THING BREAK.
I've never ran it at the track without breaking hinge pins, a arms, steering kunckles, diffs, spur gears.. The biggest problem is hitting jumps at full speed while just dicking around in practice and landing 10 feet past where even the 1/8th guys hit and breaking stuff on flat landings.

The motor doesn't help at all, but god does it make me miss running my slash on streets and bouncing off curbs and trees without a care in the world.

Anything with that much power in it is going to break. Also 4WD buggies are known for being fragile anyway. You can drive a stock buggy and bash the hell out of it, but strap a mod motor in it and I'm conviced the chassis and a-arms turn into glass. Even what feels like the smallest tap on the pipe or wall will snap it.

Here is my latest Tamiya toy/passion. Always wanted one of these as a kid, now I own one thanks to re-issue :D
There is something about the big spikey tires and the scale looking dune buggy wheels, takes me straight back to my childhood :P

Eflite make some decent entry level stuff. Its very similar to esky (honeybee) stuff but the QC is better. I just looked up the SR since you mentioned it and it looks to be based on the CP Pro and I can tell you they are not easy to fly (both are collective pitch). The plastic head just doesn't have the precision needed to be stable. I'd skip any of them that use a motor drive tail. If you are ready to move up to a single rotor then get something like a Blade 400. It's better bang for the buck because it has a heading hold gyro and a belt drive tail. It also has a plastic head but the larger rotor size helps it in the stability department. It comes with a great radio that you can use on other models when you are ready to move on as well.

Feel free to PM me with any more questions.

Erm so this thread is about cars but whatever, helicopters are a lot more fun. (There, I said it) But seriously, I'm hoping some of you guys might know a bit about them.

So my CX 4ch micro helicopter was fun for a while but now I'm ready for the next step up. The CX is way too easy at this point and I just get bored with it most times.

I'd like a fixed pitch that would be hard enough to keep my interest but not cost me a bundle. I heard the Honey Bee FP v2 would fit the deal but I can't find any place to buy it (yet) so I'm looking at alternatives.

Has anyone here heard of the E-Flite SR? It's coming out at the end of Feb apparently and the LHS have ordered a few. I'll check it out when he receive them, any pointers otherwise?

Very hard to fly indoors. It's big enough to create enough ground effect to have you bouncing all over the place. I've pulled off a hover in my kitchen but that is about it. Forget about forward flight in anything smaller than a gym.

I have a CP Pro and enjoy it, but it is a serious hand full even in the hands of an experienced pilot. I enjoyed the challenge of learning to fly it though. Eflite may be a bit more expensive than Esky or Walkera, but it's worth it, they also stand behind their product anytime I have had an electronics failure.

So, I've made a low ball offer on a E-Flite CP Pro thanks to me being so loving influenceable. I can get it for 200$ CND shipped to my door. (20$ less than the EFlite SR I was hoping to get at the end of Feb)

It seem fairly large to fly inside (My house is quite small..), should I go ahead on it or wait for a smaller CP heli? I was hoping for a Novus CP, it's smaller but a lot harder to control if I understand it correctly. A Novus CP might run me about 180$ total. (with a brushless upgrade hopefully)

God drat it's hard to decide.

Another thumbs up for the Tekin RS, awesome stuff, works great, but their software is a JOKE. Castle on the otherhand is getting a foot hold in our current racing scene. (granted they are locally owned) but the new MMax Pro is a solid performer, and their software is far superior to Tekins.

(I currently run Tekin and LRP)

I've been out to Jakes once. I was just dropping in to pickup a ESC from a guy. Jake is a cool cat, but I live too far to race there. I usually race at Real R/C during the winter months, although recently I have been bitten by the crawler bug.

It's not too bad, I left the interior out which greatly simplifies it. Not bad at all if you go through the front window :)

Anyone of you fine gentlemen have an Axial Ridgecrest? Got some $ and I need a fun trail/bash truck. I may also use it for a bit of truck pulling with my sled.

It's between that and a Wraith most likely. I just want something RTR that can do some trailing/mudding/crawling without any modification.

edit - I see the HPI crawler king is in stock at all the big online hobby shops, and it's only half the price. I may just go with one of those. As most of you know from me posting a million pics everyday, I loved my SCX10....but that drat truck is a money pit and I can't afford to have one while running my racing trucks.

The Venom Safari looks like another option, but I'm a bit iffy on Venom products.

edit* bah missed your last post. It should be plenty of fun to drive man and parts availability shoudl be good. Glad you went Axial over HPI.

Honestly I'd go Wraith. I love mine. The Ridgecrest is based on the same axles and tranny, but it's really just an attempt to compete in the crawler king market IMO. It just looks a little odd as well. Attempts to mod it have been mixed. The Wraith no matter what you do to it always looks awesome. It's a nice hybrid between crawling and bashing. spend the extra dough, you wont be sorry.

heres my fun little project:

That's a sweet Wraith. The main reason I went AX10 was because it sounds like a better crawler than the Wraith for the most part, what with the lower CG and all that. The low price was the final kicker.

I'd agree that the Ridgecrest body looks loving terrible, but they look sweet with old pickup truck bodies on them.

As for the difference Powder, the Ridgecrest is a mix between the older AX10 comp crawlers and Wraith. I love those Dana 60 replica OCP axles! The Wraith has a higher CG because of the exocage & body on top. It definitely looks boss, though. Both are cool trucks.

Agreed, there are guys running sportsman class with them in comps. Tires are the biggest hang up in stock form. Should be a great trail truck though. Stock electronics are *waterproof. so getting in the water is a must :)

The truck has some issues, but they are aiming for a lower cost option to get some of the guys on the sideline into the game. I'd say mission accomplished :)

The Wraith is def more top heavy, thats why most guys lower them right off the bat. It being more of a scaler/basher though you trade off some performance for looks. With flipped lower shock mounts it is really a different animal.

I switched over to the R35 ripsaws and they are WAY more sticky. Almost too sticky. I like a little bit of spinning on the rocks (for cooler video shots) and they just don't. They just bite and go..lol

Glad you are enjoying it :)

So you ditched the Ridgecrest already?

I don't blame you one bit, the SCX10 is a cool truck for sure. I have one too. It's def more low key fun. More relaxing to drive. I love trailing with it.

Mine is pretty well stock, has a 3racing winch, 3racing led kit, Holmes 27 turn and mamba max ESC. Proline Powerstroke shocks and VPs new OMF 1.9 wheels which are sick as hell! I'm pretty proud of her so I have to show her off :)

Yeah, I sold the AX10 to a co-worker. He paid me almost full price for it, so it was an easy decision. The Ridgecrest was cool, but nowhere near as cool as the SCX10.

Yours looks pretty sweet too, our rigs are almost yin and yang... I like the Tacoma accents you've done.

My wheels are around 150ish depending on how you build them.

Whats your screen name on RCC? I'll hit you up there. Whereabouts in the midwest are you? I'm in the Kansas City area. Mabey we can go trailing depending where you are...lol.

@Nathan Explosion - I've been RCing for over 25 years, but nothing has grabbed me like the first time I picked up a scale trail rig. I do encourage you to give it a try if you think you might like it because you might love it.

The wraith and ridegcrest have the rtr compound ripsaws. For some reason the boys at axial decided to put the R32 compound ripsaws on the RTR honcho. And I agree they do really well. Much better than most scale tires. I'm running the R32 ripsaws on my wraith as well as my honcho and I think they have too much grip lol.

As for the tire thing, I'm just sticking with the RTR R35 compound Ripsaws for the time being. They hook up so well (that picture where I'm climbing a 70 degee angle) that I can't justify spending the money right now.

edit - I love those dudes pulling trailers in the video. What is that, a gremlin?

double edit - This fall we will have to meet up. My wife and I have been wanting to do a KC trip to eat BBQ and all that sometime this fall. Maybe I can plan it on a day you guys are doing a scale run?

When I sold my old SCX10 and all the bodies on Ebay a few months ago, I obviously made a huge mistake. I could care less about the truck, but I never should've sold that one of a kind rusted out body. The guy asked a million annoying questions after purchasing the truck, but I always took the time to respond in detail.

Fast forward 6 months and now that I'm running/head organizing a scale trailing group, I really miss that body. I took a chance and sent that guy an e-mail through ebay's messaging system asking if he'd please sell me the body back if he still had it. To my surprise, he mailed me back and said he'd be happy to do that if it meant that much to me because he just has the body on his shelf on display.

We negotiated a very fair price, and it's now on it's way back to me (and my scx10) :). The lead rig will be sporting a dirty ol' Comanche body for our big meet next week. It pays to be nice to strangers!

And some of these clowns are the business owners who depend on customers for survival. I'll never understand it. No wonder so many go out of business.

We have one shop like this in Kansas City. The owner is a real dbag.

ColonelJohnMatrix posted:

Sorry to hear about that lovely local store. The big store here in St. Louis is a mixed bag but the majority of the R/C counter is staffed by pricks who seem to go out of their way to avoid customers or be condescending. Many of these guys are the same local dickbags that turned me off with racing in the first place.

When I was about 10 years old I had no clue about "hobby grade r/c" and thought all trucks were Nikko styled. My dad brought me into the hobby shop to run my toy Nikko Black Thunder R/C truck on the track. Needless to say, it was atrocious on the track. The owner watched me run a couple laps (nearly breaking my truck with the jumps)and loaned me a gen 1 RC10T to do some laps. I nearly poo poo my pants. After seeing that I could handle the truck my dad bought me a Traxxas Hawk 2 race truck and my brother a just released Traxxas Rustler. I soon started racing in the bi-weekly kids races and I've been involved in the hobby ever since.

I really appreciate that old man behind the counter for helping me get started. Had it been one of these counter jack-offs at my LHS they probably wouldv'e just laughed at the stupid kid trying to drive his toys r us special on "their" race track.

I just don't get how guys like that have jobs where they actually interact with the customer.
