uuggghh posted:-it was republican legislation that sunk the republican party? I'm only pointing out that terrible legislation has a way of coming back and destroying a party and in the Republican's case, that terrible legislation came relatively early in the president's term. I doubt you'll see it in the polls for a while, but I don't doubt that it will show up in the near future. The terrible spending policies and the push for action with Iraq both occurred as soon as Bush entered office. Politicians are surprisingly stupid and very skilled at infuriating the public regardless of party. If mandated private insurance is seriously the choice for reform with regards to Obama's biggest policy proposal, I have grave doubts about the democrats ability to maintain control of government; 2012 is far enough away that the specter of "Bush!" won't be enough to win and a trail of ineffective legislation is exactly what republicans want.

Robert Reich's take on the "public option" if it's included:quote:The Health Care Cave-In I'd go further and say it's a step backward if the bill ends up being mandated private insurance with a weak, noncompetitive public option, since nothing would embolden the private insurers more than mandates and subsidies.

It's gonna be a huge effort, but we're starting to reach out to all remotely relevant groups in the area. Gotta pressure Bill Nelson, and local Dem representatives Alan Grayson (FL-8) and Suzanne Kosmas (FL-24).

Haha, yeah: I should've said "further embolden." I think it's terrific you're working on the May 30 protests. And for everyone else: Here's another good action alert for contacting politicians.

I must be a little slow on the uptake as this has always bothered me. Without saying "hurf durf car insurance!" can someone inform me exactly how it's in any way legal for the state to force me to purchase a product from a private company? Also, how big a cheque do I have to write to have the government mandate everyone buy my poo poo?

At least with car insurance, it is your choice if you want to operate your vehicle on public property so in essence you're only forced to own auto insurance if you choose to drive. After all, it is your "choice" if you wish to seek life saving medical expenses.

Has anyone tried to start a taxpayers lobby where regular citizens try bribing our congressmen?

rorschach you know it isn't difficult to become an executive or a city lobbyist if you really want it, why not be one of the "busy people" instead of chastising nerds on a forum without any sense of self-reflection
