What are we doing for music these days? I seem to have the hardest time trying to find/make friends who are able to produce the right stuff for my work. So what do you guys do when you want to make a video suitable for a commercial environment and you need royalty free music?

tallkidwithglasses posted:well, if it's a commercial environment, you generally have to pay licensing fees. And that's a bitch when you're barely making any money (or none at all). I've resorted to something I think is better. Tapping into those musicians who want to get their music out there and are small enough that they're willing to work on awesome collaborations with you (I appreciate these people much more than I used to). Anyway... I recently bought an EX1 and whipped this up yesterday http://allexits.net/node/45 Any particular recommendations for compressing HD footage for the web? I've been using premiere's media encoder to make these flv's, but I was curious what others are doing.

The Affair posted:Anywho.. just to keep the ball rolling it's a new month, what's everyone working on? Commercials, shorts, sports, features?... Porn? Hear ya there. Nobody likes spending money it seems. Feels like I simply work for food and free beer. The latest project may land me in Dubai and Sydney in the coming months for these two videos that I produced same day during the International Moth Races (if you don't know what a moth is, check out the vids). I shot both on an EX1. I've only had it for a month. It's been a massive and most wonderful upgrade over my PD150. Music is by forums user ErrandBoy. So I did this a month ago using a Flip UltraHD and a Sony EX1. It covers the mavericks event and all the craziness. part 1: The Madness https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrMazfFUYbY part 2: The Surfing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RycSgofuQpo edit: sorry, I should point out it's more of a mini-doc instead of just raw clips. SquareDog posted:I remember when you posted the clips in GBS originally, great footage. I saw it advertised on some kind of "extreme videos!" show the other week. Good job. Really? Any idea what it was? I haven't been informed of that. G4 expressed interest but never actually told me if they'd use it.

I've posted a couple times in here and I love reading/watching everybody's stuff. It ends up making me feel extremely amateur... Anyway, I wanted to share my current reel with you folks. I've only just decided to start learning motion graphics (for now I rely on my partner for that when it's needed) so I focus on my ability to jam myself into potentially dangerous situations with my Sony EX1 and my little FlipHD camera. My favorite thing to shoot is action sports, but I've dabbled in a little bit of everything. Sometimes I get paid, sometimes I don't. Currently I've sold my footage of the Mavericks Surfing event to NBC divisions 3 times and once to the Travel Channel. That accounts for something right? Hope you enjoy: http://www.allexits.net/blog/video-portfolio/
