My conservative friend just ambushed me with one of his "I'm really interested in what YOU think"/"I heard about this UHC thing on Savage and would like to see if your opinions stand up to sound bytes" conversations where he makes a point to let me know he doesn't like paying taxes, voted for Ron Paul, and Canadian Health Care is the worst ever because he has a Canadian friend who is waiting for a procedure that you can get the next day in the US. After a lot of words to avoid making a point, he said that his Canadian Friend needs a new kidney.

Actually, Teddy has a private plan--the same kind of plan that would find loopholes rather than pay an ordinary schmo to get the extended treatment he's getting, no doubt. Medicare is his secondary insurer.

And again, if it weren't for Kennedy's support, RomneyCare would have never passed in Massachusetts and turned into the miserable failure it is today. Kennedy's currently raising millions of dollars from healthcare lobbies for his posthumous non-profit to be named in his honor, and he's the last person I'd trust to shepherd healthcare reform that's in the citizens' interest rather than those of the healthcare lobbies.
Shouldn't you be masking your bitter disappointment over the results of last year's Democratic Primary by white-knighting the free speech rights of astroturfing Republican gate crashers?

One of the principals for a firm i worked at was diagnosed with cancer. They had driven to Cedar's Sanai in LA as health care in Vegas is a loving death trap.

They gave him the runaround about coverage and his parents called a family friend who dappled in legal activities and politics. The family friend then calls the hospital and was able to put enough pressure on the hospital staff so they would provide him with treatment regardless of insurance coverage. He ended up losing a lot of one of his legs, but it was handled in time instead of waiting for the insurance companies to make up their mind.

I think whatever UHC plan should also have Oscar Goodman or some other celebrity mob lawyer to bat for you. Hospital or insurance company says your terminal illness is not covered and therefor they can't provide you with costly treatment? Have Oscar Goodman call the hospital and inform them of how he'll destroy them professionally and personally, and witness the change from cold-hearted hospital administrator to attentive caregiver before your very eyes!

wtf? what particulars are they even talking about?

Hospitals and other direct care providers are no longer required to apply lubrication (or any other viscosity-reducing solution) when declining to provide health care to Americans. There was actually a three day provision that was removed due to children waiting an extended period of time to be refused health care. Now we're able to withhold vital life-saving procedures from children at a faster pace than before due to unnecessary bureaucratic loopholes.

After waiting 120 minutes and paying the $60 co-pay prescribed by your Insurance company, I will review a few comments made in your chart and suggest that the next time you need a band-aid changed you immediately go to the ER.

Hey Willa, although your blood pressure is completely within the norms for someone ten years your junior, I do recall you mentioning that one of your relatives has high blood pressure and since we cannot rule out genetics I'm going to prescribe some blood pressure medication for you to take, and next time you visit I'll yell at your for not listening to my advice when slinging pills at non-existent ailments.
