Adopted two kittens 18 months ago, and last night one of them decided she wanted to sleep on our bed for the first time rather than in the basement on top of the gas furnace. I woke up in the middle of the night to find that she had wedged herself between myself and my wife, and as soon as i reached out to touch her she started purring loudly and gnawed my hand. I think they are fully adjusted :p

i'm sure this has been brought up several times before; however, after having a hellacious time trying to give meowcifur medication for a tooth infection, we learned about the "mix medication with churu and smear on top of his paws" delivery method. it works well, we no longer have to fight him tooth and nail, and he's overall much calmer about it. since implementing, i have no longer experienced:
seriously, he became wise to almost all of our tactics. we mixed the meds with wet food and succeeded for about 3 doses before he started mistrusting the wet food. we crushed the pills and mixed with water to squirt via syringe until he started flailing and spitting everything out. we made him into a burrito with a towel and pushed the pills to waaay back in his mouth so he'd swallow them, but he started to chomp freely and harshly on our fingers. we tried pill pockets, and he'd eat the pockets and leave the pills. we never had the chance to try one of those pill injector things because we couldn't find one before we started the paw-smearing method. what a menace. we've always called him our himbo, but after this adventure we know he's far more canny than we ever imagined. the toilet prince himself, he who watches from the porcelain throne: ![]() everyone else (except the eighth) sharing the churu remainder patiently doled out by wife:

Alas, Snowflake seems to be allergic to absolutely everything that isn't his Duck & Pea hypoallergenic diet. No Churos for him. He gets super itchy and develops hotspots on his legs that leave little blood splotches on things. They take over a month to heal when they show up. I have to put him in a cone while the ointment sits on them for 15 minutes a time before he goes free to lick the ointment off.

My mother has two cats on long term medications Syringe works wonders and they are so used to it they don't fight. ... it probably helps with one cat that the medication is literally actual C2 controlled substances to treat his seizures and render him pleasantly high as well.

A momma cat gifted us with 6 kittens in our garage this fall, we are getting them neutered at the end of the month and will be finding homes for 5 of them. One of them my wife has latched onto her name is Shakey, and she is a wobbler the cutest tine black kitten, and is falling all over the place and bobbing her head. Vet checked her out and is perfectly healthy, I had never heard of wobbly cat syndrome and I have 5 cats and have had cats for 20+ years. If anyone has any tips or tricks I'm trying to get as much info as possible for care, already bought a raised dog dish helps her eat/drink. We have a low access litter box she uses pretty well considering.

My wife's friend found herself with a feral cat in her yard, and she brought it in. Cat was pregnant, kittens were born, and are getting older. 7 cats in total, but its becoming overwhelming for her to keep care of them all (she herself has health issues which makes taking care of all of them difficult). She's listed the kittens on different places for adoption but so far people have flaked. She's in Los Angeles County - are nonprofits available to take them in?

I’ve been following the story of wobbly cat Baby Corn over here: https://youtube.com/@whiskstowhiskers?si=nQVGlRZLSmYgLa14 He seems to have other developmental difficulties so I don’t know how useful this really is, and it’s mostly just cute shorts, but might be a starting point to find resources.

Oof, this is what happened to me and my neighbour, though the kittens aren't quite three weeks old yet. I'm really hoping we have an easy time finding good homes for them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rT6xPvuJTXg

I don't have any direct experience, but I do have some thoughts! As far as I know, patience is the biggest need your wobbly baby will require, mostly because it'll take them longer to accomplish anything a "normal" cat can. The low access litter box is a great idea! Anything to make things easier on poor little Shakey! (Incidentally, your wife has made the right call. Wobbly cats have attracted a bit of popularity on the internet/have been shared around as "aw, how cute!" videos. It makes me worry that someone unqualified could take him home just so they have stuff to post on social media.) Tips I've seen on other websites include keeping Shakey indoors, keep their claws long (they need the gripping help I guess), don't give them access to any stairs, make sure their litter box is large in addition to being easy to access (ramps can help), keep food/water elevated (off the floor a few inches anyway), and put down traction on any hardwood/slick floors (can be rugs or non-slip mats). Be extra encouraging with playing and climbing to help with muscle strength. Another anecdotal piece of advice is to put puppy pee mats around the litter box exterior just in case Shakey misses the target. Someone else recommends larger water and food bowls to give Shakey a bigger target whenever he wants to eat or drink. A wide-mouthed water fountain would be a great idea! Lastly, there are SO MANY cases of wobbly kitties out there on the internet. Watch videos from reputable caretakers to get your own ideas. Other kitties like Shakey (and Baby Corn!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGhS3rBLytE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dl7vfp1ao10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GsBk5u56i8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTB2dGnEa-A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wG98EUgWa1k

Hey goons, I am at my wit’s loving end. I’m trying to transition my cats’ wet food and they just will not touch it. It’s been a week. I’ve been doing 75 old and 25 new but they refuse to eat it. If I mix the food together they turn their nose up at everything, and if I don’t mix they eat around the new. Is there anything else I can do to force the issue, or do I just have to accept my little assholes don’t like Tiki Cat wet food?

Unfortunately I need to transition them to something because eating kitten food forever will make them fat.

Like every cat I've fed blue buffalo to refused to touch it. But, before you give up, instead of mixing the food try putting them out separately. Like a sampler. I convinced my late cat to eat his Rx by putting it next to his old food instead of mixed in (my vet's suggestion so I guess it's a thing). He wanted to eat them one at a time. I think acana food is in the same price range as tiki and good quality, if you want a recommendation. Rat Patrol fucked around with this message at 21:41 on Nov 22, 2025 |

You can try buying some individual cans, for stuff that comes in sets some pet stores have programs where you can bring it back for a partial refund and they'll donate the rest to a shelter

We have a cat about 10 years old who has developed a habit of leaving tons of partially chewed food in her dish. We got worried and fed her some leftover kitten food (little guy outgrew it and started turning his nose up at it so now he gets big boy food) and she eats that fine. Both foods are Iam brand, the adult food is an indoor cat mix. Should I be worried about a dental issue? Is there a long - term problem with eating kitten food besides the calories? She's always been a grazer so I feel like she won't put on much weight. Could she just have been chewing around whatever filler there is in indoor cat food?

And then I go buy a 12 pack and they refuse to touch it ever again.

eating only apples posted:Thread opinion of "feed them cat food, whatever" is weird when the poster is specifically trying to move away from kitten food. He's trying to transition them from kitten food to adult cat food. They don't like the particular brand he's chosen, Tiki. There are a gazillion of alternatives in adult cat food. In the US, the FDA regulates cat food and mandates their nutrition - so they're all equivalent, nutritionally. The only thing that matters is that their cats like it and will eat it. Thus, he should buy a few cans of many different brands and see what they'll eat.

some cats dont like certain textures and/or flavors, my older cat doesn't like anything fish related and he seems to prefer slices/shreds vs loaf styles

Nobody is saying "feed them cat food, whatever." The key thing is finding something they want to eat within parameters of veterinary advice and cost.

They’re currently on Fancy Feast and I really wanted to get them on something not owned by Purina. But transitioning them to the adult formulations might be what I have to do. They’ve been eating pate texture and I’ve kept that the same. They also didn’t like the chicken flavor I tried, but I knew they like fish better so I tried that instead. Still a no. Tonight they’ve each eaten like a few bites of wet food before deciding they would rather just graze on dry again.

Wet might be technically better because no fillers and more hydration but afaik there is nothing inherently wrong with a dry adult food if they like it.

Killed a mosquito that somehow got inside, assume it either got me or the cat bc it was a bloody death... He's indoor only so not on any anti heartworm meds, should I be concerned/contact my vet or am I overestimating the odds of transmission?

Does anyone know if they make like a cat car wash toy? The cat seems like he'd love having some rollers to walk through/under to scratch his back. If I have to build it myself, what might be the best materials for the rollers? Something with the right scratchiness without being too stiff.

My mom bought it for no small price from a small pet shop that stocked locally made stuff.

I knew I had seen something like a brush that attached to walls or arches before. It turns out the search term you are looking for is "self grooming" or "self groomer". Nothing like a car wash, but toss on a "diy" to your search and you can find some simple ones to make that could be combined pretty easily using stuff like dryer lint brushes and fingernail scrub brushes etc.
