I get it. It's where bands make their money. Streaming isn't poo poo. But with the world's varying levels of absolute dogshit response to COVID I don't know when these bands think touring is coming back but, uhh, it's probably not soon. So they either sit on their albums forever or they say gently caress it and put it out? Do a physical release campaign like TAS just did for Slow Decay?

I just want new ETID :(

I'm surprised they aren't doing some kind of physical edition blitz, especially given how fans eat up Jordan's stuff.

hundredth used to be core so fair game but their new album dropped recently and i gently caress HARD with it

i never gave a poo poo about them when they were generic ghost-inside-esque metalcore, but i started paying attention when they dropped rare a few years ago and it was completely shoegaze and v i b e s. i was into that record until i eventually saw them live here in LA and i was so loving bored out of my mind lol. i dropped off of listening to rare for a while but eventually their songs would creep back into my spotify mixes and it's kind of insane how much i like it on record but don't really care for it at all live.

this new album though, it's like they're doing synth power pop poo poo and i feel like i could actually groove to it at a show (if they ever happen again). and even if not, it bangs while i'm cooking dinner in my underwear so whatever

Huh. I always thought there was another band just happening to use the same name. They're so different than the early poo poo (with, y'know, -core). Come up with a new band name at this point.

Speaking of bad, I know you all hate While She Sleeps but they put out a new song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5mKa0r8Fjk&t=149s

The only reason I really bring it up is they started a fan club thing through Patreon. You pay at certain levels and get certain perks. What are your guys thoughts on more bands doing this as a way to make some money since they hardly make poo poo now and touring isn't an option? There are certain bands I'd definitely support in this way.

That's... that's literally just a BMTH song, ain't it?

Like I get that Holy Hell, as good as it was, is mostly a collection of riff ideas left behind by Tommy boy and that the rest of the crew put them together with Josh adding some of his mojo and that Jordan from BMTH handled the bulk of the audio fuckery for "Doomsday", but come the gently caress on.

I kinda hope it's not indicative of the rest of the record because LF//LT, AOGHAU and Holy Hell are, like, some of the best metalcore out there.

This is pretty goddamn baller, for those of us into the mathcore persuasion: https://metalinjection.net/news/the-god-awful-truth-are-a-mathcore-wrecking-ball-in-the-memory-palace

Lots of influences in this - early/mid Daughters, bits of Dillinger, changes from track to track. A very varied album, especially for mathcore.

New Bring Me The Horizon is out. Given it one 1.5 listens so far and it's a'ight. They open heavier than they've been in a long time, which is fun, and never quite go as poppy as they have on TTS/amo. The track with BABYMETAL is a hoot. If I were to guess, I'd say it'll probably end up around my 3rd/4th favorite BMTH albums.

It's pretty good. I knew they did a song with Babymetal but it still caught me off guard when it came on. Teardrops is catchy as gently caress.

I dunno, I liked the poppy parts in That's the Spirit/Sempiternal, I tried my best to like Amo, but in retrospect, it still kinda feels like they were trying to figure out what type of sound they wanted to have and both Amo + Music to Listen to... feel very scattered as a result.

XIII
Feb 11, 2009

I like poppy Bring Me more than heavy Bring Me. I'd probably rank Sempiternal as my #1, with amo and That's The Spirit following it. To me, There Is A Hell feels like the album where they were trying to figure out what they wanted to become (it's not bad, but I get tired of it about halfway through). Anything before that is "Good, Not Great" -core that I turn to when I just want to hear Oli blow out his vocal cords.

ninja edit: and I don't really count Music To... as a proper album. It's got some cool moments, but I think of it as their version of a lo-fi hip hop to study to youtube channel

I love the new BMTH. Every track is a banger, it's a culmination of everything that works from discography mashed together with the best hooks of their career. I'm also a big dumb manbaby who still loves Linkin Park so I'm kind of a perfect mark for this sound. As a whole, I think I like this more than everything but Sempiternal.

New Fever 333 EP(?) also dropped today. I'm still not entirely sold on the band but it does feel like they're more comfortable with their sound than on Strength in Numbers. They lean into the rap direction a little more which I don't mind in theory, but the results just don't work for me. There are some solid moments sprinkled throughout though, and then this track sneaks in out of nowhere and just absolutely destroys:

is it a horrible thing to admit that Teardrops sounds like a Linkin Park song? Is it even worse to admit I think that's a good thing???

This is actually the first BMTH album I've ever listened to in full, and however they used to sound, they kind of kick rear end on this one.

It's certainly leagues better than some of the lovely pop-metal the local station's been playing lately.

SchwarzeKrieg

BMTH have been openly inspired by Linkin Park since at least Sempiternal, which works for me since Linkin Park is good and cool. Teardrops is probably the most blatant example, but Throne was pretty Meteora-sounding too:
