Jesus Christ what the gently caress happened to Architects?? I see the lane they’ve chosen and I get wanting to change it up, but they used to be so goddamn heavy, that’s all I can think about when I hear the new stuff. Kinda like with PWD.

Also, how long have We Came As Roman’s been Linkin Park with breakdowns? I don’t hate this at all lol. Vocalist is unbelievably Chester influenced. “One More Day” came on my Spotify release radar and I listened to it like three times before just loading up the whole new record. I am a basic bitch. I never listened to a lot of WCAR so if they went full Architects it’s not bothering me

I try to avoid social media these days, but in my experience a LOT of metal/hardcore fans on- and offline are pretty uncritically supportive of anything their favourite band says or does. Bands like Parkway Drive, Wage War, and especially BMTH (to the point where they're co-headlining with Arctic Monkeys) are doing complete Ship of Theseus replacements of their sounds, and it's just called "evolving". Tim Lambesis can try and murder as many women as he likes as long as AILD keep writing breakdowns.

The fact that the same treatment seemingly isn't extended to a band with as much media and public goodwill behind them as Architects speaks volumes about how massively they've poo poo the bed

yeah I've never really heard criticism of them outside of this thread, even MetalSucks who can be pretty bitchy were like "not really my thing but pretty good for what it is" on the last one, IIRC

ditto the DJs on the local metal station, they seem to love all the new Parkway and Architects stuff

lmao architects i can't stop laughing at them. Congrats on your arena rock success I guess?

2016:
Another faceless figure, an empty silhouette
They'll line their pockets and leave us six feet deep in debt
So cast your votes, watch them shed their skin
Always out for blood, preying on the weak
We can count on them to paint the future bleak
But we're still standing by whilst they bleed us dry

2022:
Be the change that you wanna see
No, not like that
It's a risk we can all agree
gently caress the loving facts
But it bleeds right in front of me
We're under attack
Yeah, we all know that these rights are holy

this album absolutely sucks lmao

Got hooked up with tickets and a vip wristband to see Knocked Loose at Red Rocks tonight. They were opening for a bunch of rappers and the venue is all stairs, so no mosh pits, but they killed it and it was rad as gently caress to see them play such an iconic venue.

Yeah, last year. Those shows were a fuckin' blast and I highly doubt I'll ever have more fun at a TAS show, but that was also heavily due to the lineup being stacked (even if KK didn't make it to night 1) and the venue being tiny (and a 4min walk from my apartment)

lmao, I just got one of those "here are the upcoming shows in your area" email that called Counterparts "Countertops". Also I didn't realize that Dying Wish wasn't gonna be at the Denver tour date, so that's a bummer.

New Sharptooth EP dropped yesterday and I really dig it. I know people have mixed opinions about the new vocalist, but I really dig her and the new tracks all go hard

Lipstick Apathy
that sharptooth record is basically unlistenable as far as i'm concerned but i'm glad you enjoy it! easily my biggest disappointment of the year so far

i'm extremely sad to find out they are basically burying all of the previous material and reset the band entirely, but there's no way the new vocalist can pull off those songs so probably for the best

me, with awful taste: the new polyphia is actually cool and good

XIII
Feb 11, 2009

Yeah, I know I'm basically alone in preferring the new sound. But I also like her previous band, Backswing, so it's not a huge surprise. I really liked Clever Girl and was stoked when I learned that Travis Orbin was doing the drums for Transitional Forms, but then the album dropped and I just couldn't get into it. It's been awhile since I've listened to it, so maybe I should go back and give it another spin.

edit: yeah, still does nothing for me

i can see that. the songs kinda blend together a bit but it's better than 90% of similar sounding bands out there. AW is undoubtedly a beast

Yeah, I'm sorta in that boat too. Like, I will always play a new Oceano tape when it comes out, but I've never thought much about it beyond, "yep, that's more Oceano." They do what they do and they do it well, but I couldn't tell you two lyrics/riffs. Never seen em live, but would love to.

Also, currently chilling between bands at the Varials / Boundaries / Orthodox show. Seems like everyone's merch is a swing and a miss, but learned that Boundaries tour in a different way spray painted (short) school bus, so that's rad

i hadn't even considered that it might be his older self. its a fine concept despite being cliche. every metalcore weenie whines about his dad at some point, but yeah this is textbook why i try to avoid videos whenever possible. even if i like the song, every time i hear it i just think about the video and it ruins it for me.

I'm less familiar with them than Orthodox or Varials (only started listening to their most recent album a week ago in the lead up to this show and never heard anything older), but they sounded good and the crowd was hype. My buddy is a big fan and he loved their set, if that counts for anything
