no loving NY/NJ date, gonna have to go to Philly, ugh

union transfer is a giant venue and pretty nice. i've only been once to see ETID/Acacia Strain and i stage dived twice while ETID played the breakdown in Pantera's Domination. it was fun.

i'll be at the LA date for this ETID/vein tour and maybe head down for San Diego as well

also got tickets to thursday/friday ETID boat shows in NYC

Side note I just realized the clean vocalist from Erra sounds a tooooon like the old singer from Saosin:

Another new Daughters track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqa4_YuQQV8

I think I might pass on this. Their last single a few weeks back, and a few of the live versions of some of the new songs, eh. Just not feeling it.

S'okay, I have their old albums to jam.

Edit: 30 second samples of the entire album: https://www.amazon.com/You-Wont-Get-What-Want/dp/B07FRZPWZ6?tag=smarturl-20

i loving love daughters and already jammed that first single they put out a bunch of times. this album feels like it'll be a bit exhausting to get through but i'm still down with the creepy dissonant vibes.

the new jesus piece album/record/tape/cd/cassette/collection of songs got delivered to my place this weekend. i have been so excited for it, but on a few full listens, i'm not sure i'm really that stoked on it. might be my poo poo record player needle but it sounds a bit muddy and a lot of the songs are just droney poo poo. should have just released another EP

e: what a weird location order, though. Philly->Worcester->Pittsburgh->NY->Toronto doesn't make any sense, wouldn't it be way easier to do Philly->NY->Worcester->Pitt->Toronto?

the last time i saw the contortionist was at a twenty-person shithole bar out on long island when they still played "djent" or whatever. they're SO much better since Language and i can't wait to see them on this tour finally. thanks for sharing.

also pumped for erra during the TAS tour. i don't like the vocalists sound who took over (and who also ruined texas in july for me), but i'm glad i'll get to see them.

i actually missed the encore that show because it was so loving hot inside the venue (jacksonville beach fl) that I left as soon as white walls was over because i couldn't stand it anymore

i'm glad they encored bohemian rhapsody because despite them being my favorite band ever by a huge margin, holy gently caress does their version of that song suck

I mean it's not a great cover, for sure, but it was a great time live, lots of energy and singing along, good way to end a show.

that is... actually a lot less bad than i remember upon my first listen

hmm, interesting. the other track off that 7" (vertical beta 461) is really good. it was originally written as 'boot dagger boogie' by paul for some guitar compilation album and then tommy layered vocals over it for the 7" release

Snow Cone Capone
Jul 31, 2003

TBH the 7" version is meh, and I fully acknowledge that "holy gently caress that was an amazing show and now there's a fun singalong" might have colored my opinion significantly.

e: you're right that vertical beta is awesome though, deffo sounds like it could have been an unreleased track from Colors.

I love JT Cavey. Like to the point that it hadn't occurred to me that anybody would think he "ruined" ERRA. I always found Garrison bland and forgettable, and Ian was just plain bad. The music has always been dope, but I didn't pay much attention to the vocals until Drift.

i'm a much bigger fan of more aggressive sounding vocal styles. my favorite vocalists as a teenager were guy from the red chord, nate johnson from deadwater drowning, etc. this jt cavey guy sounds like a an old, fuzzy mid-range speaker as opposed to a real menacing, dominating presence. it's just kinda boring and unexciting. to each their own...

i almost loving choked on my spit when i saw the price of this ticket. i like the contortionist but i don't need to meet the band and bullshit with them or take a photo or any of that. oh well.

I enjoy harsh vocals too (IDT EP and Caitiff Choir Nick Brooks was the GOAT in his day) but for the amount of melody in ERRA, I think the vocals fit nicely

Same, plus I love his energy live. He seems like someone who is just really happy to be up there playing and doing vocals for such a good band.

i listen to music fairly passively at work. when i start an album and don't hear anything that interrupts my work and makes me check spotify (ugly-face breakdown, etc) until 3 songs in... that's telling

as for bmth that new song is a skraight up pop song. i skipped to three different spots in the youtube scrubber and landed on the same EXACT line each time.

The Amity Affliction dropped a new album two weeks ago and it's been on constart rotation for me. They pulled a BMTH and adopted a poppier sound for it and upped their synth game about 1000%. I highly recommend it.

Absolutely agree - someone already commented that it's a "fun" album and that's the best word I can find to describe it. It's catchy, it's hard in the right places - just an easy album to put on, without that being a negative thing.
