Don't get me wrong, Periphery are fuckin' great at what they do and I get why people like them. It's just not the kinda tunes I wanna listen to very often, so it's easy for me to get my fill of them.

Yeah, why is that popping up again on news feeds? :raise: He announced it like two weeks ago.

I hadn't seen that interview but apparently until now ATR was promoting him as a touring guitarist rather than a full member

I never get why Periphery pop up in the core thread. To me they are like slightly heavier Dream Theater. They are toad but there’s nothing metal- or death- core about it.

Yeah, to echo those above me, I feel like Periphery fit this thread better than any other. They definitely have enough -core elements to count in my eyes.

In other news:

and?
Periphery is at the proggy end of metalcore, that's all. You can't listen to Blood Eagle and think that they don't belong in this thread more than any other in this forum

Misha also has these as his production credits:

Stray from the Path – Make Your Own History (2009)
Animals as Leaders – Animals As Leaders (2009)
Veil of Maya – Eclipse (2012)
Animals as Leaders –The Joy of Motion (2014)
Volumes - No Sleep (2014)

so anything he touches should be of interest to at least someone in this thread

He seems like a great dude too. A kid I used to babysit was taking lessons from him at Berklee and had nothing but the best to say about him as a person and a teacher.

Ehh, new periphery isn't doing it for me. PII is still the best, closely followed by P1 to me. Glad I got to catch them on the PII tour a couple times, those were incredible shows.

E: yes on Misha's niceness - chatted with him at a few shows, was incredibly kind and chill.

In other news, just discovered Black Tongue's Nadir is getting a vinyl release in a few weeks.

Very happy about that - Unconquerable Dark has been my go to super heavy poo poo for a while now, and while Nadir isn't quite as solid overall, it's got some great loving tracks.

Love me some My Ticket Home. They're not really that 'core anymore, but poo poo still bangs.

I saw Chelsea Grin last year and they were really good, if not a bit same-y at the end (but that's deathcore for ya, I guess). Support was from Oceano, Kublai Khan and Enterprise Earth, very stacked lineup.

Born of Osiris ripped both times that I saw them, which were once with both Jason Richardson + Lee and later with only Lee manning all them 7 strings. With Chelsea Grin I saw them only once with the Guitar trio which included Jason Richardson and... now I'm wondering if he's gonna last in ATR.

Seems like ATR could get real boring for him real quick with the type of music they play now tbh. Although I'm sure they pay more than whatever bands he's been in before...

Uh yeah. Jason Richardson leaves a trail of beef everywhere he goes. He's been kicked out of like four different bands so far. When they tossed him out of BoO, he called them all a bunch of pill head addicts

You're probably thinking of The Faceless. Not that he's alone in the shithead (or addict) department, though.

Jason Richardson is an amazing guitarist, but I've never seen a photo of him where I didn't immediately want to punch him for some reason. I assume this is why he's never been able to stay in a particular band long.

He's basically the complete opposite of Tosin in my opinion. While I know they're both incredibly proficient with the instrument, AAL tends to bore me in long doses (their last album has grown on me to the point that I actually listen to it fully fairly often, though), but IRL? An incredible gentleman and an absolute blast of a human being.

OTOH, Jason's jams are more up in my alley but by jove is he an insufferable fuckbin.

I'm not normally a hardcore guy, but I've been listening to Holy Hell, Errorzone and Time Will Die... on repeat for months now. I like that they are aggressive and experimental, but also a bit hooky and melodic. Also breakdowns. They remind me of two of my all-time favorites: The Shape of Punk to Come and Miss Machine.

So ... what else should I be listening to?
