Traitorous Leopard posted:Brokencyde is truly an abomination of music. I don't think I could respect anyone who enjoys them. I just looked at their Wikipedia page out of sheer boredom, and the critical reaction section gets, ahem, loving freaky. Wikipedia posted:Metal Edge Magazine has called Brokencyde "loving horrendous". Thrash Magazine has called them "a mockery to the world of music". Another metal magazine, Decibel, has repeatedly made fun of the band, mentioning them in a interview with the group Big Business, and once ironically referring to then as their "favorite screamo-crunk band". British commentator Warren Ellis calls Brokencyde's "Freaxxx" music video "a near-perfect snapshot of everything that’s poo poo about this point in the culture". Says August Brown of the Los Angeles Times, "The 'Albucrazy'-based band has done for MySpace emo what some think Soulja Boy did for hip-hop: turn their career into a kind of macro-performance art that exists so far beyond the tropes of irony and sincerity that to ask 'are they kidding?' is like trying to peel an onion to get to a perceived central core that, in the end, does not exist and renders all attempts to reassemble the pieces futile."

That Heartland solo is gorgeous. If someone made an album full of stuff like that, I'd buy it three times on release day, and never stop listening to it.

SeraphSlaughter posted:Has this thread encountered Animals As Leaders yet? I'd be hard pressed to call it "-core' but eh sounds like a better Periphery: I think the Periphery self-titled had the same producer as Animals as Leaders, or something. Explains the similarities. While I do enjoy Periphery, Tosin Abasi's guitar skills blow my mind regularly. Guy's a madman.

There is a lot of awesome stuff on Ritual. When Den of the Picquerist kicks in after the bass work, it's headbang city. Conspiring with the Damned is pretty loving cool, too. Ryan Knight gave the group the same juice going forward as Shannon Lucas did in joining before Nocturnal. It feels like a big step up to me.

chocolateTHUNDER posted:What was the deal with their old guitar player again? When all that poo poo went down I read that he just plain sucked and they kicked him out of the band was that the truth or did more surface after the fact? It was mentioned at the end of the Majesty DVD, and while I can't quite remember the exact reason, it wasn't on bad terms. The general consensus, however, was that the previous guitarist's solos were getting extremely boring. Knight was a colossal replacement.

On the contrary, it's easily my favorite. I'm not sure if I'd place it up as the best grind album period, but it's up there for me. Related, I just popped in Fed Through The Teeth Machine, and Demoralizer might be one of my favorite album starts ever. Catch it in the right mood and it's terrifying. Any news on TRC finding a more permanent drummer?
