Weird question maybe, but for the folks that have attended WWE house shows - are they not usually in arenas.

I found this picture on a random image feed, and as far as I can see it's Ziggler vs Morrison in what appears to be a Chikara-size venue, rather than the usual WWE-size arena. Can anyone cast any light on this? I thought it might have been something like OVW or FCW but the turnbuckle pads have the WWE logo on them...

The WWF also incorporated his motorcycle accident into his gimmick, capitalizing on the fact that he had a "metal plate" inserted into his forearm which was said to cause more damage when it struck an opponent. This caused a number of his opponents to demand that he wear a cover over it during matches when he had a streak of knocking people out. This eventually led to WWF officials demanding that Luger wear an elbow pad, though he would often remove it.

Match #8: Jeff Jarrett vs. Booker T. in a San Francisco 49'ers Match for the vacant WCW World Heavyweight Title

* There are poles at each turnbuckle, each of which holding up a box over ten feet in the air.
* One of thoses boxes has the world title.
* Bill: It would be funny if one box had a piñata.
* Jarrett enters first.
* From last week, Jeff Jarrett becomes by favorite wrestler that week for bashing Beetlejuice with his guitar.
* Booker comes out next.
* Booker takes off his shirt and hands it to an old lady.
* Jarrett attacks Booker outside the ring, signaling the bell.
* Jarrett jabs Booker with a chair.
* Back inside, Booker reverses a whip to the corner, but Jarrett gets in a clothesline afterward.
* Jarrett grabs a box, kicks it open and finds...
* A blow-up doll. What'd you expect from Russo booking?
* Booker whips Jarrett into a back elbow.
* Booker with a side slam.
* Booker grabs a second box, opens it and finds...
* A picture of Scott Hall.
* Jarrett charges but Booker nails him with the framed picture.
* Jarrett rolls outside next to the blow up doll.
* Booker goes for the third box, but Jarrett cuts him off.
* Jarrett dumps Booker and goes outside.
* Jarrett nails Booker with an empty box.
* Jarrett slams Booker on the rail.
* Jarrett breaks a box over Booker's head.
* Jarrett sends Booker into the announcer's booth.
* Jarrett stomps away as Madden screams for Jarrett to go for the box.
* Jarrett tries a piledriver but Booker counters with his own.
* And the table doesn't break. Ouch.
* Booker enters the ring as Jarrett takes a swig of some water laying at ringside.
* Booker goes for a box and finds the Coal Miners Glove from the "Spin The Wheel, Make The Deal" match from 1992.
* Jarrett trips Booker and crotches him on the ringpost, though.
* Jarrett steals the glove from Booker.
* Jarrett signals for Booker to get up, hits the ropes and nails his opponent in the chest.
* Jarrett celebrates instead of going for the win.
* Another shot to the midsection.
* Jarrett grabs a used box, goes to the middle rope and breaks it over Booker's head.
* Jarrett climbs up for the last box, but Booker cuts him off.
* Booker whips Jarrett, who avoids a dropkick by hanging on the ropes.
* Jarrett loads up the glove for another punch to the face.
* Both men are down and Mark Johnson counts to ten.
* Jarrett picks Booker up at eight.
* Jarrett with a whip and a sleeperhold after missing two clotheslines.
* Crowd chants for Booker T during the resthold, which Madden says is for Jarrett.
* Johnson raises the arm three times to usual results.
* Booker makes the comeback and does his own sleeperhold.
* But, since Booker is a face, he suffers a backdrop suplex.
* Johnson counts again, with Jarrett getting up at eight.
* Jarrett loads up the glove and goes to the corner with the box.
* Hey, just open the box! Duh!
* Booker blocks the top rope punch with a urinage.
* Booker goes for the box but Jarrett grabs his leg.
* Punches by Jarrett.
* Booker blocks The Stroke, gets the axe kick and Harlem Sidekick.
* Through this, Schiavone did the "Spinerooni!" chant, with Madden telling him to shut up. Heh.
* Jarrett counters Booker's attempt to win with a punch to the nuts.
* Booker tries a sidekick but gets crotched on the ropes.
* Outside, Jarrett looks for something under the ring but is unsuccessful.
* Jarrett piggybacks Booker and backdrops him.
* Jarrett goes for a guitar under the ring and he can't get it out for some reason.
* Jarrett goes up top UNDER THE LAST BOX.
* Beetlejuice comes out from nowhere and gives Jarrett some ballshots.
* Beetlejuice beats on Jarrett out of the ring.
* Booker opens the last box and gets the belt for the win!
* YOUR WINNER AND NEW/STILL WCW WORLD CHAMPION: Booker T in 13:02.
* Post-match, Scott Steiner comes in from behind with a lead pipe to the back.
* Jarrett throws Beetlejuice into the ring.
* Steiner puts the Recliner on Beetlejuice as we fade out...

Although WM24 also has Shelton going from a ladder onto a ladder bridge after Kennedy and Carlito tip it over. Then the two of them just sorta stare outside the ring for like, 10 seconds with their mouths wide open.

The only other I can think of would be someone like Carlito who beat Cena for the US Title. Santino I wouldn't count because of the way the match was won with the inteference from Lashley.

Most guys now like Sheamus seem to mainly be booked against jobbers at first to get them over wins, or go the other way and get booked as underdogs at first.

Taken from the Undertaker Thread - http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3209332

And the excerpts from WWE Unscripted

quote:

I started training at this gym between my junior and senior years of college, and I met a guy there who was trying to find someone to go to wrestling school with him. I was interested, but I had basketball. I went to college on a basketball scholarship, and I was good enough that I was getting offers to go overseas and play professionally.

People I talked to who knew wrestling said "You fill out a bit, at 6' 8", you could go someplace." I was a fan of wrestling, but I had put all this time into basketball. But the reality hit me one day: At best, I was gonna have two or three years in pro basketball, probably in Italy or some other place I didn't want to be. So I decided to give wrestling a chance. I upset a lot of people when I left college; I was ten credits short of my degree. But I realised at that point what I wanted to do, and the opportunity was there, and I wanted to seize that opportunity.

My oldest brother told me, "Look Mark, you don't live your life for everybody else. You have to do what's right for you. You can't worry about what Mon and Dad think, or your coach thinks. You ain't hurting anybody else. You're gonna live, you're gonna survive by your own actions." That was pretty much all I needed to hear. I took it from there.

Once I was working every week, I knew that I would make it. Did I know that I would make it to the level I did? No; you can't foresee anything like that. There for a while, I slept in my car. Pretty much all my money went to food. But I wasn't going to ask anybody for help, I had too much pride. And I didn't want to hear any flak about not finishing college. Not that I'm proud I didn't get my degree, but I had made my choice.

quote:

It took me a long time to figure out how to have a normal life. My life for nine years was all wrestling: everything was centred on wrestling. I loved it. I wore all black, even at home. I was always the Undertaker, Mark was never around. Now, I've got the two seperated. It took me a long time to figure it out. My wife helped me with that quite a bit. It took meeting her to actually be happy away from this, to find out there was something more to life than wrestling and being on the road. I used to be a wild partyer. I lived the life, I definitely lived the life. I didn't leave much to the imagination.

It is really hard to have a healthy relationship. You're out there on the road, you're a celebrity, you're exposed to many different things, people are always telling you how wonderful you are, and you're presented with so many challenges. If you are a male wrestler, you have your wife - or girlfriend - at home, taking care of the house, sitting there by herself, bringing up kids, wondering what's going on on the road. In that situation, an imagination can run wild, and it usually does. People aren't stupid - they know what's available out there.

There are a lot of guys that do keep monogamous, honest relationships, and that's great. I'm one of those guys now. Back in the day though, I was the devil. My wife Sara has made an incredible difference in my life and , as a result, in my career. I give her all the credit, not only as a personal motivator, but as somebody that actually makes me happy. Makes me happy without liquor, without any kind of drugs, anything. I didn't ever think that person existed.

quote:

I think originally people were taken with The Undertaker character because it was so different than anything they had seen. I think everybody has some fascination with death and are curious about what happens when people die. It's kind of a taboo kind of thing, something people don't talk about, so I think I captured a lot of people's imaginations, like "Wow! This guy's right out there, he's talking about souls, about things that people don't like to talk about." Initially, people were terrified of me. Kids in the arena would be bawling when I made my ring entrance. It was like the boogeyman had come to life. And somewhere in the process of that first year, year and a half, the fans really got high on that character; it became a really cool character. I think just by my size, and the way this character looked, and he moved so slow, and then there was this sudden burst, this explosion of energy, and then he'd be right back to slow again - the whole package just fascinated people. It was just one of those rarities when everything fell into place and just hit. For me, it was stuff that I was interested in anyway, so that made it easy. I lived the character, lived it for all this years. I always was in black, going to the airport, going to the gym, everywhere. When Sara and I met, my whole wardrobe was black. She's actually responsible for getting me to wear stuff that's not black.

People are becoming more sophisticated, more bloodthirsty, so it will be interesting to see where all this is going to end up. People have preconceived ideas about what wrestling is. What disturbs me is that some of these ideas defy logic. You can actually see somebody get picked up and thrown down, and yet somehow it didn't really happen; it was a camera angle, or the guy knew how to fall. Where the confusion comes in is that the outcome is predetermined, but how you get to that outcome is real, very real, more real now than ever before. I'm curious whether in another 10, 15 years, wrestling will be more of an Ultimate Fighting Challenge-type thing; that's kind of where the business is progressing.

quote:

It used to be you had big, rawboned guys, and some guys had beer guts. Now everybody puts in their time in the gym. They realise that an element of the business that's gotten real big is "Looks do matter." Your physical appearance does matter; it matters with Vince McMahon. Vince is a bodybuilder; he puts in his time in the gym. If you can impress him, you're opening the door a little wider for yourself. And when someone on our roster isn't in shape, they hear about it.

My whole eye socket is titanium mesh; it's all rebuilt in there. I was wrestling Mabel, who was 6'8" and 450, 500 pounds, maybe more. I took a clothesline from him that pretty much ended up as a fist in the eye, and it crushed my eye socket. He was moving towards me and I was going toward him, and his fist just got me first. When I breathed, my face would fill up with air. My mindset at the time, the way I did things, was that if you could walk, you could work, you could go the ring, and that's what I did. I worked three more days. When I got to the optometrist and they looked at it, they told me if I had taken another shot in that eye I would have lost it, because the nerves and everything wre rubbing up against a jagged piece of bone.

I try to eat high protein and low carb, but I refuse to be an egg-whites-and-chicken-breast guy and nothing but. The one pleasure I still keep is my eating habits. I'll eat fish and chicken, but I love red meat and I eat it when I want it. I try to really cut my carb consumption after 3 or 4 in the afternoon. I don't eat cereal at night anymore - that was my favourite nighttime junk food. I do a lot of cardio to try and keep the fat down. But I'm not as strict as a lot of guys. I'll eat a piece of fried chicken in a heartbeat. I make enough sacrifices in my daily routine that if I want to eat something, I'm going to. That's not saying I'm gonna eat 30 pieces of fried chicken, but I am gonna take care of that craving, and if that means doing extra cardio the next day, so be it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, imagine dating his daughters? Now imagine dating his daughters and sneaking her back in the house at 2am and finding him sitting at the table with a bowl of cocoa puffs looking really loving angry.

I've got Terry Funk's "More Than Hardcore" in front of me now

quote:

...he wanted to do something spectacular and memorable. We somehow came up with the idea of Cactus taking a big fall off the top. Then, after he came back, to everyone's amazement, Undertaker would choke slam him into the cage roof. The prop guy was supposed to make sure the two sides of the cage were secure, so the impact from Mick's body would cause the top of the cage to sag and gradually come open, so Mick would slowly tumble into the ring

That's why they should stick with calling it a Mafia kick in the West.

Actually, while trying to see if I could find reference to a Mafia kick online to see if there was any difference, I found this exchange on the IMDB "WCW Nitro" quotes page which made me smile

quote:

Tony Schiavone: [Barbarian just kicked his opponent] Mafia kick to the head.
Bobby Heenan: A what?
Dusty Rhodes: What the hell is a mafia kick?
Tony Schiavone: That's what he calls it.
Bobby Heenan: Why can't you just say he kicked him in the head?
Dusty Rhodes: He's Samoan, from the Polynesian islands, the mafia didn't have nothin' to do with that kick!!
Tony Schiavone: Well I was just calling it by it's name.
Bobby Heenan: HE KICKED HIM IN THE HEAD TONY!!

As I understand it Vampiro has been working post WCW does anyone have any information and/or links? I've found some stuff, just a few short clips though. I used to love Vampiro as a teenager.

Don't ask how I know this, but he did a bunch of stuff for the Backyard Wrestling video game, so I would assume he also wrestled for them occasionally.

There's also a Vampiro documentary called Angel, Hero, Devil: http://www.vampiromovie.com/, although I've no idea how good it is

edit: in the time it's taken me to type this you've already found out about the documentary...

2nd edit: according to Online World of Wrestling (regarding the back injury)

quote:

Vampiro broke his back on July 7th 2009 after jumping out of his bedroom window. The story goes that while he was sleeping a gang of robbers broke into his house. A cop who was patrolling the area noticed that his garage door had been broken open and called for back up. When more cops arrived they entered the garage and then the house but didn't find anyone, except for Vampiro who was asleep in his bedroom. Vampiro opened his eyes to find cops standing over his bed pointing their guns at him. Naturally he freaked out and did a suicide dive out of his window. He suffered four cracked vertebrae but luckily no lasting damage. He is expected to make a full recovery and won't require any surgery. Doctors have told him that with rehab he should be healthy again within three months.
