It's time once again for a thread for asking questions about wrestling that really don't deserve their own thread. This can lead into a little, limited discussion within the thread itself, or might require a simple, straightforward answer and nothing else! If a question is generating a lot of discussion, might I suggest moving it over to the appropriate Wrestling Promotion Discussion Thread where possible.

In addition to relying on the completely unbiased and forward thinking minds of Wrestlehut, here are some resources for answering questions you might have!

Online World of Wrestling - The former Obsessed with Wrestling, an incredibly useful and jampacked with information website.

Wrestling Observer star rating list - Does somebody have a different opinion than you? Can't back your own up but are desperate to prove your opponent wrong? Well here's Dave Meltzer's star ratings, ranging from -5 all the way up to 4 and 3/4!

CageMatch - Massive Database on Wrestlers, full of statistics

Wikipedia The place to find out all about events featuring professional wrestling matches with outcomes predetermined by script writers; the matches feature wrestlers portraying their characters in planned storylines that took place before, during and after the event.

It's worth adressing the question of "Why is hardcore okay for Cactus Jack and Terry Funk, but when it's CZW or IWA it's garbage wrestling?" The difference is promos and psychology. Funk was arguably one of the top 10 wrestlers of the past thirty years. He didn't have to do hardcore to have an entertaining match, but he knew how to use it in a way that made sense. Cactus was a big fat guy with average athletic ability. Yet, his promo ability and charisma made him one of the biggest stars of the Attitude era. In the ring, he made up for his althletic flaws with great psychology. Some could argue he used big bumps and hardcore as a crutch, and there's some truth to that. However, his had great psychology and knew how to use those spots for maximum effect and could sell well.

Exactly, it's like those people who think that the Hell in a Cell match between Foley/Taker was great because of the spots off the roof, and can't understand why people don't consider it a classic when they leap into a dumper full of weedwhackers off of a roof swarming with crocodiles. The spots mean something because of our familiarity with the characters, the build to the match, and the fact that Foley got BACK UP afterwards with a crazy smile on his face because his character was loving insane and wanted to keep fighting.... and Taker's reaction was,"gently caress it okay let's fight some more!"

I know, but yeah, nobody knows anything about the character of CZW wrestlers, who they are, or why they should care* - it's the equivalent of the villainous henchmen in disney live action kids films who slip and land on their backs and then bowling balls land on their heads. It's not funny and nobody cares because no reason has been provided to.

Well, it was at the very least an effective way of illustrating a double standard.

Except it's the equivalent of an officer manager getting a phone-call from head office saying,"We need to send in an accountant to audit your department's books, there are some troubling things in your latest profit report we want to investigate further," and the manager replies,"Heh.... sure thing, you can do that...... so long as you audit the Executive Vice President at the same time! Yeah except it isn't the job of the Scranton, PA Office Manager to dictate terms of when and under what conditions HE will allow his financial records to be gone over by head office. And since we're comparing Steiner/HHH, Triple H would be showing up to work in a pretty drat nice looking cadillac wearing an Italian leather coat and would be dropping $50 bills as he walked down the corrider. Steiner would be showing up to work in the world's only ferrargini, with 30 inch gold plated rims, the car painted bright pink with the words,"PIMP DADDY!" in day-glo lime on the hood. His coat would be made from the feathers of Dodos and he would toss $100 bills about him and smile wide to show off his diamond-plated grill as he screamed,"FINANCIAL MALFEASANCE IS THE BOMB, YO!"

Do you guys think the WWE might ever consider doing non-canonical, low-key shows to compete with Indy talent or to spread appeal overseas? It seems they're forever struggling to find places for some of their low and mid card talent. I can't imagine they couldn't turn a profit producing a more indy-style (ie more athletics, less talking), lower budget show under a different brand name. You know, so long as it wasn't HEY KIDS ITS THE NEW WWE INDY - just make their own little indy organisation and not ever talk about it on TV.

Honestly I think that with FCW operating as a feeder into ECW operating at a television level itself as a feeder to Smackdown and RAW (and with Superstars thrown into the mix as a kind of exhibition show) they're really at straining point already, and adding anything else into the mix would only have a detrimental effect.

Yeah I've also heard he's good buddies with CM Punk and even fat ol' Samoa Joe, so it just sounds like he's a hell of a nice guy who everybody gets along with.

Sting told him he was frustrated with himself because he wasn't getting the guy he was feuding with over. (It may have been Vampiro. I don't remember.) So there he was, hours before the show, thinking up spots by himself.

According to Foley's first(?) book, Sting was also kind of blown away when Foley came to him with a bunch of ideas for things they could do in their matches together, both because:

A. Foley was supposed to be a jobber being fed to Sting to make Sting look better.
B. Pretty much nobody really bothered to come up with any ideas for matches anymore, they just showed up, got in a series of standard moves and then either got pinned or pinned the other guy and that was that.

In the end they worked out their matches together and, as Foley had suggested to him, they both ended up better for it.

He deserves props for 1996/1997 alone for that build up, because it was all about the Stinger.

Amusingly, wasn't the reason for that long build-up because Sting had fulfilled his contractually obligated number of matches per year really early and they would have to pay him extra money for every match he had after that point?

Flair finally arrived at 9:55pm, but they had already changed plans for the show because they had to be off the air at 10:03pm because TBS decreed that the Chimp movie had to start on time.

Goddamn it's good to be reminded that even today there is still nothing that compares to the perfect storm of poo poo that was WCW.

Just watched the Hardy and Morrison vs The Hart Dynasty match from smackdown and something is really odd about Matt Hardy.. I don't know how to explain it but he just seems stiff? Seems to take him forever to get up off the mat and he seems to have very low mobility and flexibility in general. Is this because of the injury he had recently or has he always been that way?

Edit: The next match was a vault match between he and Mysterio and he looked far more mobile. Guess that answered my question. Strange.

He's just recently had fairly major surgery on his abdominal wall, and for at least the last couple of years his guts have almost literally been leaking, which makes the level he has actually managed to perform at pretty phenomenal.

It's also incredibly stupid, and I can't believe he has come back as early as he has. That said, he's probably also impressed the likes of Vince McMahon no end with his dedication and guaranteed a long, long, long career in WWE unless another Lita situation was to blow up in his face.

Whatever happened to belts actually meaning something?

I will say that I've really dug Rey Mysterio's IC Title reign and it's annoying as hell that he went and got himself suspended and we aren't likely to see the proper ending to his feud with Ziggler. On Smackdown recently the IC Champion has been in GREAT matches against the WHC of the time.

So in answer to your question, the answer as usual to almost any complaint is to watch Smackdown!

Every so often you'll see the ref has hit the 3 at exactly the same time as a kick out, but the ref's word is final and if they twist around and throw up the 2 sign then it's a 2 count regardless of the number of times his hand hit the mat.

Nick Patrick was the best because when he was going for a 3 count on a heel he would suddenly grab his arm and fall to the side in agony because his arm had suddenly seized up

It was Pat Patterson.

And the joke in the book was about how when Foley was desperately hoping for a call from WWF, his Dad told him that someone called Pat Patterson had rung about a job. Foley got all excited then figured it might be a prank, so asked if the man had trouble with pluralization, and his Dad said yes. So Foley got all excited and thought Patterson was going to give him a job (and I think even called Patterson!) until he found out it was Shane Douglas, who had left a message along the lines of,"Tells Micks Foleys thats thes WWFs woulds likes tos gives hims as jobses."

I loved the Earl Hebner/Triple H storyline, and whenever Earl would shove Triple H back.

At Backlash 2000 when Linda marches the "fired" referee Earl Hebner to the ring after Austin has destroyed Triple H's backup and sends him into the ring where he proceeds to call the match RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE is absolutely perfect. They could just as easily had him come back and work on the side of The Rock and it would have been justified after all the cheating Triple H had done, but instead he called it right down the middle and his final 3 Count was neither fast nor slow but JUUUUST right.

At that time, I genuinely think Earl was the best ref in the world, very few if any other refs could have sold that angle as well as he did.

Hebner counting fast for Jericho on Raw that one time is one of my biggest mark-out moments ever

I remember my face when that happened, and a friend of mine told me that when he saw it, he and his brother actually started screaming and their parents burst into the room thinking they were being murdered, only to see them hopping up and down shouting,"JERICHO WON THE TITLE! JERICHO WON THE TITLE!"

And could explain in detail why Brian Pillman has a gun? Did he bring one to a show or something? I hear the meme, but do not know.

Austin came to Pillman's house to attack him during an interview on a show, and during all the tumult, Pillman suddenly came back with a gun.

You can't even say that Bret is the craziest Canadian because BAM, Chris Benoit took that bullet for him.
