Not quite as good on repeat listens, but there are some good songs. I like the title track, and I think she is on a different, better trajectory than she was with Artpop.

I listened to the extra songs on the deluxe album. I'm not quite sure why they weren't included on the full album, besides the "Angel Down" demo.

Wow, Million Reasons is the #1 song on iTunes right now with no video or radio deal. A-Yo isn't too far behind and Perfect Illusion, Bad Romance, born this way, Joanne and more are on the chart too, that Carpool Karaoke thing paid off for her.

The super bowl is going to be huge.

Life, friends, is boring

quote:

Lady Gaga’s long-running comeback notches a symbolic victory this week as “Joanne,” her first solo album in three years, opens at No. 1 on the Billboard chart.

“Joanne” (Streamline/Interscope), which recasts the onetime disco queen as a soft-rock balladeer — to a mixed response from critics — sold 170,000 copies and had 25.7 million streams in the United States in its opening week, giving the album the equivalent of just over 200,000 sales, according to Nielsen. It is Lady Gaga’s fourth No. 1, and if those numbers are a bit lower than she enjoyed for previous albums, “Joanne” nonetheless beat expectations and had the fourth-largest debut week of any album this year, after those by Drake, Beyoncé and Frank Ocean.

I think the album is good but probably not for me. Mostly I just find it... kinda boring. Not a problem with this album, but this kind of relatively minimalistic pop-rock in general, for me. Most of the songs sound like stuff I'd enjoy hearing at a dive bar though.
Hey Girl is my fave based on one listen.

I really like Joanne, love the personal feel of a lot of the songs and I think the album is really a showcase for her strong vocal talent as well. It actually seems like kind of a risk because it is absolutely her most selfish album to date.

Her half-time show performance started out painfully boring. The outfits felt like what other top 50 artists wore when they were imitating her aesthetic in the 2010s and the aerial stuff wasn't interesting.

I really enjoyed her vocals during Million Reasons. Seeing the lights was kind of sweet.

I am enjoying the costumes for Bad Romance. It flatters her shape, feels like a fresh take on football gear that nods to her earlier costumes. The Bad Romance performance felt so much more alive than her performance of Poker Face and Telephone.

lmbo if you think she needs to say I'M AGAINST DONALD TRUMP AND MIKE PENCE as she, lady gaga, plays Born This Way and ends her show with a literal mic drop

that is the substance

That's not obvious enough for some people.

Anyway, great performance. Do you think the audience had to study and practice/rehearse to be in the audience?

Yeah, I'm not really sure what people wanted from her - the beginning of the show (liberty and justice for all) combined with Born This Way in front of Mike Pence himself is plenty political and not at all subtle. Anything else would likely have been considered "crass", which I don't entirely agree with but look what happened with 5 seconds of a titty that most people didn't even catch the first time they watched it.

What exactly did you want her to do, come out and replace all the words of her songs with "gently caress Donald Trump" while getting pissed on by her dancers in a Trump costume or something? While it would have been pretty funny it wouldn't have the inclusive message she said she wanted a thousand times in interviews.

I thought it was a great show and got the point across, sorry she didn't literally bash the fash on stage I guess?

Saying LGBT at the super bowl/in front of a bigoted VP is not badass. It's less risky than saying the word "crap" in front of your teacher in elementary school. There are other issues an atrocities than LGBT ones, too, and if the closest she came to addressing them was singing a song that includes relevant verses that 99% of people never knew existed and had to look up online then that is not a strong message. All this did was placate people who don't want to have their bigotry challenged and act as a dog whistle for those who already know that it's wrong. She didn't even have to say anything - it could have been communicated in how things were staged or what her dancers were wearing.

It was a good performance; I'm not denying that.
