the playlist shuffling on the ps4 app is abysmal. why do they have so many issues getting shuffling to actually shuffle a playlist instead of just playing the same few artists over and over

Does anyone know how Spotify is using Echo Nest or Seed Scientific? They bought two music analytics / data science companies in 2014 and 2015 and I'm a huge nerd that wants to know the technical specifics of what that means.

Here's a cool article about how Spotify uses algorithms :

While we're asking questions: is there a way to view all the albums that have just been added to the service? The "New Releases" area offers only a very partial overview.

Try searching for 'tag:new'.

quote:

Every week, music makers unleash thousands of new recordings on the world, most of which has yet to be reviewed, blogged about, analyzed, or even heard beyond their inner circle. If you’re excited by the freshest sounds the world has to offer, you’ve already found out how hard that is, especially if you’re looking for a particular kind of music. Named for the hat in the Harry Potter books and films, Spotify’s New Release Sorting Hat can help.

This “experimental attempt at an algorithmic organization of the week’s new releases,” as it’s described by creator and Spotify data alchemist Glenn McDonald, takes a fresh approach to the problem, with powerful implications for music fans who want to explore brand new music each week, delight their ears, and impress their friends by always seeming to be first to the party — in just about any genre.

To hear each week’s new releases sorted by genre, bookmark, share, and repeatedly visit Spotify’s New Release Sorting Hat, which updates each Friday (the new global release date) with the latest music to appear on the service.

so they finally hosed up the starred playlist completely by converting it into regular playlists

now i have 3 playlists called starred #1/#2/#3 with 10k tracks each

RIP giant list of alphabetically sortable songs

My playlists are not big enough to try this, but isn't it possible to get around the limit by just adding all the 10k playlists to a folder and then play that folder?

I pay for Spotify and use the free part of Google Play Music to upload music that's not available on Spotify.
