My husband's aunt said this almost word for word. She is thankful that her company fires the old and sick because it keeps her health insurance down and she doesn't want to pay for other people's healthcare. I tried to think of ways to address that mindframe, but I came up with nothing. Any ideas?

HIGH SCHOOL --1959 vs. 2009

Scenario 2:
Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school.
1959 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies.
2009 - Police called and SWAT team arrives -- they arrest both
Johnny and Mark. They are both charged with assault and both expelled even though Johnny started it.
Scenario 3:
Jeffrey will not be still in class, he disrupts other students.
1959 - Jeffrey sent to the Principal's office and given a good paddling by the Principal. He then returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again.
2009 - Jeffrey is given huge doses of Ritalin He becomes a zombie. He is then tested for ADD.. The school gets extra money from the state because Jeffrey has a disability.
Scenario 4:
Billy breaks a window in his neighbor's car and his Dad gives him a whipping with his belt.
1959 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college and becomes a successful businessman.
2009 - Billy's dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy is removed to
foster care and joins a gang. The state psychologist is told by Billy's sister that she remembers being abused herself and their dad goes to prison. Billy's mom has an affair with the psychologist.
Scenario 5:
Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school.
1959 - Mark shares his aspirin with the Principal out on the smoking dock..
2009 - The police are called and Mark is expelled from school for drug violations.. His car is then searched for drugs and weapons.
Scenario 6:
Pedro fails high school English.
1959 - Pedro goes to summer school, passes English and goes to college.
2009 - Pedro's cause is taken up by state. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against the state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English is then banned from core curriculum.. Pedro is given his diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English.
Scenario 7:
Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from the Fourth of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle and blows up a red ant bed..
1959 - Ants die.
2009 -ATF, Homeland Security and the FBI are all called. Johnny is charged with domestic terrorism. The FBI investigates his parents --and all siblings are removed from their home and all computers are confiscated. Johnny's dad is placed on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again.
Scenario 8:
Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him.
1959 - In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing.
2009 - Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in State Prison. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy.

Not an email, but a friend recently posted a history of the Iraq invasion that included the fact that Saddam posed an immediate threat to the US after 9/11. Now I don't remember feeling that at all- I remember all the "smoking gun mushroom cloud" bullshit but I didn't buy that then, and I thought that it was pretty common knowledge now that there was no link to Al-Qaeda and Saddam had no WMDs, so I'm honestly befuddled to hear anyone at this point claim that Iraq was an "immediate threat". The only thing I can think of is that there must be some email still circulating supporting this claim. Is this sort of thing still being passed around?
After positive proof came out that there was no link between Saddam, 9/11, or WMDS, a certain segment of the population became even more convinced that there was really a link. It's an interesting phenomenon though I would think that these people would've moved on to a different subject by now.

This one has probably been posted before but not recently and I wanted help for a response. I know there's a goon with a website about Arpaio but I can't remember what it is. I did find the website arpaio.com but hardly anything is sourced.

Maricopa County was spending approximately $18 million a year on stray animals, like cats and dogs. Sheriff Joe offered to take the department over, and the County Supervisors approved.
The animal shelters are now all staffed and operated by prisoners. They feed and care for the strays. Every animal in his care is taken out and walked twice daily. He now has prisoners who are experts in animal nutrition and behavior. They give great classes for anyone who would like to adopt an animal. He has literally taken stray dogs off the street, given them to the care of prisoners, and had them place in dog shows.
The best part? His budget for the entire department is now under $3 million.
The prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an hour for working, but most would work for free, just to be out of their cells for the day. Most of his budget is for utilities, building maintenance, etc. He pays the prisoners out of the fees collected for adopted animals . . . Cost is $78 including microchip, neutered/spayed, and current on all shots.
People have long wondered when the rest of the country would take a look at the way he runs his jail system, and copy some of his ideas. He has a huge farm, donated to the county years ago, where inmates can work, and they grow most of their own fresh vegetables and food, doing all the work and harvesting by hand.
He has a pretty good-sized hog farm, which provides meat, and fertilizer. It fertilizes the Christmas tree nursery, where prisoners work, and you can buy a living Christmas tree for $6-$8 for the Holidays, and plant it later.
He was re-elected with 83% of the vote.
Now he's in trouble with the ACLU again.
He painted all his buses and vehicles with a mural, that has a special hotline phone number painted on it, where you can call and report suspected illegal aliens. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement wasn't doing enough in his eyes, so he had 40 deputies trained specifically for enforcing immigration laws, started up his hotline, and bought four new buses just for hauling folks back to the border. He's kind of a 'Git-R Dun' kind of Sheriff.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio created the 'Tent City Jail,' and has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.
He banned smoking and porno magazines in the jails, took away their weights, and cut off all but 'G' movies.
He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects.
Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination.
He took away cable TV until he found out there was a Federal Court Order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the Cable TV again and only let in The Disney Channel and The Weather Channel.
When asked why The Weather Channel, he replied 'So they will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.'
He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value.
When the inmates complained, he told them, 'This isn't The Ritz-Carlton . . . if you don't like it, don't come back.'
With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 Degrees) the Associated Press reports: About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at The Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their Government Issued pink boxer shorts.
Hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week before.
Many were also swathed in wet PINK TOWELS as sweat collected on their chests and dripped down to their PINK SOCKS.
'It feels like we are in a furnace,' Said James Zanzot, an inmate who has lived in the TENTS for 1 year. 'It's inhumane'
Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic. He said that he told all of the inmates: 'It's 120 degrees in Iraq and our Soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any crimes, so Shut Your Mouths!'
Way to go, Sheriff!
Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes--not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things some citizens cannot afford to have for themselves.

Note:
Sheriff Robert A. (Bob) White of Pasco County Florida has a farm where many vegetables are grown for jail consumption. The farm also raises chickens, hogs and cattle. The animals are slaughtered at a local slaughter house and the meat returned to the jail kitchens to feed the inmates.

I wrote out a response to the Arpaio email posted earlier today. Added some bible verses since that's the crowd I was emailing.

Crohn's disease sufferer Damon Dreckmeier was sentenced to 111 days in the county jail. Denied a few dollars' worth of daily prescription medication, he was rushed to the hospital five times, undergoing two surgeries. Taxpayers will pay for his treatment. link
