If you haven't seen this animation yet, it's pretty rad.

I didn't realize that was CG until I scrolled down halfway through the movie. :psyduck:

So the CS5 announcement is in an hour, is there a thread anywhere for that? I only found threads about Content Aware Fill specifically.

I need to grab it while I still have a student discount. I just hope LR3 comes out while I'm still in school.

The f-stop number isn't based solely on size of the aperture, it's some formula for the amount of light that is let in and gets past the optics to the sensor/film. It's not just as easy as keeping the aperture blades at the same size opening. Otherwise making a 10-600mm f/1.0 terrorzoom would be trivial.

I'm pretty sure it's the distance to focal point divided by the size of the opening. So f/1.0 would have an opening with the same diameter as the distance to the focal point from the focal plane.

HDR is so cool, I'm going to do it FIVE TIMES! :byodood:

Unprocessed original / End result. Fun fact: The sliders didn't do anything after the 5th HDR toning :v:

I guess I'm lucky to never have found HDR attractive.

Are there any limitations on the Student editions of Photoshop/Lightroom etc?

I need to buy, but I don't want to pay for them and then find they have limitations on what I can use them for, etc.

As far as I know, only limit on the new CS5 stuff is you can only have them on one computer at a time.

I think it's new policy, they took away the "can't use for paid work" from what I hear.

I can't really justify sinking any more money into the existing setup :\

Yeah, it would have been fine a couple of years ago before the 50/1.4 doubled in price ($200 > $400), but it just seems their lenses haven't been updated in ages.

I think they're going to announce a new body at Photokina, though.

It's kind of unrelated but I just really wanted to say that I've finally figured out how to do noise reduction in lightroom and I LOVE it. Finally my camera is useful above ISO 640!

Then I exported one of the pictures for fun and it was perfect! Turns out you have to look at the shot in library view and change the noise reduction in develop. Dumb.

I'm upset about the shadow. Ceiling was too high to bounce. :(

Noise Reduction only shows at 100% in develop. So you have to zoom to 100%, and bam, almost no noise.

I hate to interrupt Car Chat, but I wanted to try out Lightroom 4. I downloaded it from Adobe and installed it, and then got this when I started it up:

My question: is that going to gently caress my lightroom 3 catalogs? I am using the 30 days LR4 trial, when that expires will my LR3 be borked?

No, it's asking you to create a new catalog and import the info.

If I have a photo selected in the library, and then hit "Develop" I should be brought to that photo in the Develop screen. Instead, Lightroom4 keeps telling me "no photo selected" which is infuriating.

It works that way for me. Are you sure you actually have a photo selected and not in grid view?

My friend who does a fair bit of baking and food photography recently had a photo taken from her blog and put on instagram without any credit to her. It has 30 000 likes.

You can see in the comments that she originally just asks to be credited for the work but then because they don't seem to care asks for it to be taken down. Is there any place on instragram for reporting this stuff?

The account holder even specifies that they will credit people for their work but clearly don't give a poo poo.

If you haven't found it yet, Instagram's DCMA page:

I WANTED to like their system, the 35mm f/3.5 macro lens is a loving great lens for the price, but with the sorta lackluster pro-level body selection and expensive/non-existent lenses I sorta couldn't justify it :(

I wonder how how it'll take the over-diversification of camera systems gets to the point where every manufacturer makes something like 4~5 systems.

Whenever I use a cap I end up putting it in my pocket. Then it gets left there and I end up taking it home from work, then when I find it in my pants I put it in my bag for days until I remember and put it back on the camera. And then I use the camera and the whole thing starts over again.
