I've an almost painful longing for an epic RPG/Action Adventure. Basically, I want another Black Isle/Obsidian/Bioware game. Something with memorable characters, gently caress off length, and and interesting plot or setting. I'd even go for something akin to Final Fantasy 7. What I've played already: Every Bioware/Black Isle/Obsidian game Morrowind Oblivion Xenogears (loved this) The Witcher Deus Ex System Shock 1/2 Someone recommended Divinity II - does it have good dialogue and characters? I guess what I what is something I can get lost in for a while. Finding this harder and harder as I get older. Honestly, it feels like I'm pining for a childhood sweetheart or something. Oh, and my platforms = PC and whatever I can emulate with it.

Every time I tell one of my elitist PC owning rear end in a top hat friends they're always shocked, but I don't care. I love a good JRPG. Yeah, I don't mind a bit of JRPGness so long as there's interesting stuff going on in the game. Persona 4 - does it matter that I haven't played any of the previous games? Cray posted:Another vote for Arcanum and Bloodlines. Also: if you liked DX/SS2, try the Thief series. Also: Anachronox, it has the gameplay of a JRPG but with no anime aesthetics; it's a parody of space opera/cyberpunk/film noir/comic books and one of your party members is a planet. Unfortunately, it ends on a cliffhanger, and the chances of a sequel happening are slim. Unfortunately, I've played those games already! Sometimes I wish I hadn't been such an obsessive dweeb when I was younger - I'd still have some good stuff to play. I played Anachronox (best use of Quake II engine ever?) when it came out, so perhaps I've forgotten enough of it that a repeat playthrough is merited. THE PWNER posted:How about the same sort of criteria as Chas McGill, but for someone who can't stand Arcanum and who thinks VTM:Bloodlines has far too much dialogue & sleuthing and not enough combat? I've played pretty much everything he has, and if it helps my favorite rpg is Oblivion. I've been playing the Divinity 2 demo today and I'd say it has a lot in common with Oblivion, though it is a little rough around the edges. It has the same engine as Oblivion, anyway, and quite a lot of character customisation. I may buy it if I can't find Persona 4 somewhere. Just posting again to thank the rad dudes who recommended Persona 4 to me earlier in the thread. I really like the setting and style, though the mechanics of time management and fusing personas is completely flying over my head. I haven't completed the first dungeon yet and I've already played about 6 hours! Now that I have a way to actually play PS2 games, what other stuff is out there in terms of wacky RPGs? I've got Front Mission 4 waiting for me.

I'd prefer a game where I develop a character rather than a nation building/RTS style game. I've glanced around at browser games and seen Pardus and a few others but I'm really sold on any of them. Both SP/MP is fine so long as it has some hooks. I want this as well.

I'm tired of Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 and I hate FIFA. Can anyone recommend sports games where I can turn a team of underperforming layabouts into world beaters? I have FM2010, but I'd prefer something with actual gameplay. Stipulation: has to be on PC or emulator! Thanks. BFBC2 is a really solid game and the larger servers on PC make it even crazier than on console. As for complicated stuff: I've never played ARMA, but I've heard good things about it. You might be interested in Men of War, which is a pretty involved WW2 RTS where you can control guys and and tanks directly if you want. It's pretty compelling, though the campaign has some of the worst voice acting around. I'd also direct you to all of the Stalker games, though Call of Pripyat might be your best bet. They give a very "PC" experience with a unique setting, gun porn, lots of mods, and are frequently very difficult. In fact, you should try all your favourite console games, but with mods. Mods are the best.

I remember loving Die by the Sword, but the mouse-controlled sword swing system was very divisive at the time. The singleplayer quest has a nice feel of isolation and darkness that might be similar to Dark Souls, though I've yet to play that. I had a blast with my mates playing Kobold Hockey over LAN (the kobold is the puck) and the duels are great, too. Recommend it, though I have no idea how well it might run on modern systems. The combat in Severance: Blade of Darkness was fantastic, difficult, and gory.

QTEs, unfortunately, seem to be the extent of Shenmue's lasting influence on popular gaming. It really bugs me that every game (aside from the point and click adventures you mention) seems to have a plot full of 'epic' one-man-saves-the-world/city/whatever power fantasies. Do developers think gamers aren't interested in smaller stories or stuff that doesn't translate directly to some sort of effort/reward system? There's room for the dynamic of the extraordinary juxtaposed with the mundane in other media. Chinook posted:Also, to add to this, and (I believe) to repeat a previous suggestion, Persona 4 does a pretty good job of the 'small town' vibe. Try it. Yeah, I've played Persona 4. Loved Fallout: New Vegas. The voice acting wasn't outstanding, but I've always enjoyed the effort Obsidian put in when writing quests and NPCs. I've never played any of the Legacy of Kain games, so I'll see if I can check those out. Vampires and vampire lore aren't my cup of tea normally, though Kain seems to be a little more interesting.
