I figured it out - these cats chose the exact opposite ends of the face concave/convex sliders at character creation.

Came home from work to find Quill where she Shouldn't Be, again. I think she's getting up beside the instant pot but I had everything blocked off like wall to wall with cereal boxes so I don't really know. There's an island across from the front of the fridge that she could easily jump up from, but there wouldn't have been room (she moved all the boxes when she got up there). I'm not worried about her not making the leap, just worried that she'll get stuck up there or get hurt trying to get down.

Well Quill is still adorable even if she's being a jerk. :3:

I've never had any luck trying to keep a determined cat from doing something they wanted to do. If you're worried about her getting hurt, it would probably be a lot easier to just make sure she has a safe path up and down. Does she have anything else like a cat tree for her to climb?

Cats are acrobats, they can do a parkour hop off a paw-sized pad of flat surface if they really want to get somewhere.

Yeah she has a couple places she can climb around and sit out of reach. I've been dealing with her getting up there since we moved here four years ago, she'll forget about it at soon as I start to worry and then it'll be where she turns up 6 months later when I can't find her. Just cat business.

I am endlessly delighted watching penny sproing from the floor up to the top of my bed's headboard, a four foot vertical leap to land perfectly on a bar an inch and a half across. Cats are so amazing

He really does. She's just too dumb to get it and thinks she's going to die every time he gets near her. I worry a little about her QoL, but she's very happy and lovey when she's hanging out with me.

My roommate has a cat like that, she just doesn't understand playing at all. When another cat gets too close she goes on the defensive and assumes she is going to be bloodily murdered. But with her chosen person she is a clingy lovebug. I think she was taken from her mom too soon and/or had no kitten siblings to learn boundaries with, because when she does play she goes hard and will bite the poo poo out of you while purring happily.

She definitely doesn't understand play posture, but she was super friendly with Bandit. I got her as a 3 month old almost-kitten from the shelter in 2012, and he accepted her right away. It makes me a little sad she won't open up to Leon and Mathilda.

Yeah, that was my cat in many ways. We know for a fact that she was removed from her family way too young, and we had to work through those issues with playing way too hard. But she mellowed out eventually, she tolerated the other cats but was also a big sweetie to me and my mom in particular.

One really good thing that happened was that she bonded super closely with our fairly young collie dog, so they were inseparable friends growing up. The best part was that they'd sleep in a pile together, but she'd just blend in perfectly so you sometimes couldn't see her because they had such similarly colored orange and cream coloring :buddy :
