I was told to post here.

Two months ago:

One week ago:

Today, just now:

Fiancee does in-home hospice care, and one of her clients was a cat "breeder." (read: cat lady with legal justification). When her client died, my fiancee rescued (read: catnapped) this guy before the humane society showed up with the police and extended family to clean up the place. We don't know much except what the vet told us when we took him in for his shots and a checkup: he's around a year old now, and was probably hit by a car or a door very hard when he was little, as his incisor tooth on the same side as his messed up leg was broken, as well as almost every bone in his bum leg, including a shattered scapula. After two months of tending to his wound, we finally scraped up enough money for a proper amputation, which he had yesterday morning. They were going to do just his leg and leave the shoulder, but because his scapula and associated other bones were broken to pieces, they took those, too.

Normally very active (still like a kitten, more active than any other cat we have), but right now he's high as gently caress on the buprenorphine I've been giving him for the pain.

Sorry to interrupt babychat: first purr (barely audible) since the surgery. Weaning him off of pain meds: we stopped them for around 30 hours over the weekend, and I found him just laying in (his favorite, my computer) chair just crying a sad, awful, painful cry, which scared the poo poo out of me, because I don't think I've heard him really make any noise before.

Lego's nose is stuffy from the pain meds, but he's gone a whole day without them and he's not crying. Lost a bit of weight, though:

Oldcat (Mirin, born 2006) is finally maybe warming up to newcat (Lego, late 2013). At least, I think.

Mirin is one of those cats who will jump on your lap and headbutt you all day long. And she even knows tricks! I can make her sit, stand, or "paw up" (stand and raise her paws upwards) using kitty treats. But, the moment you try to pick her up, she turns into the most evil cat ever. So, a "look, don't touch. Unless I want to touch you"-cat.

You're gonna keep dressing Lego like that forever, right?

She looks so confused and old when you wake her up from a deep sunbeam-sleep

Also, if anybody sneezes, no matter where she is in the house, she will meow, and run up to you full-speed and headbutt you. Doesn't matter if you're sitting on the floor, sleeping in bed, sleeping on the couch, in a computer chair, etc. She will find a way to headbutt you. Headbutts for the sneeze god!

So, today I went out to my car and discovered that the neighbor's ex had slashed my tires. That's unfortunate. But I also discovered a little nearly-dead lump of black fur wedged between my front tire and the concrete parking stop. Full story in my thread here.

To make a long story short for you guys, though, I used a syringe to bring this sucker back to life. Unfortunately we can't keep him due to the current number of cats (5), but once he's healthy and a bit larger I might find a no-kill shelter. Unless somebody in the Phoenix/Mesa area wants a black boy kitten.

Not named yet, but I was maybe thinking about Beetle (because he was found underneath my beetle) or I dunno. I am bad at names.

I have taken an animal that was completely limp and barely breathing, without any pupil focus or eye movement, and have given it LIFE

Well, we have Lego, the 3-legged cat that we rescued last year

He tolerates...pretty much everything. And never complains.

Then you have Mirin, the 10-year-old that wants nothing more than to headbutt you, and meow in an emphysema smoker's gravely voice.

(Pictured: Mirin getting ready for headbutt)

Then you have Yuki, the Great White Idiot, along with Chiyo (a snowshoe siamese that eats everything) and Isis, a tabby that has stayed perpetually small, even though she is also nearing 10 years old.

(Pictured: Lego not complaining, while everyone else does)

I have a few new videos of the rescued kitten.

First on the agenda is Rescued Kitten eats solid food for the first time. I think you'll enjoy it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aigshAindQ

After that, we have scheduled the classic, Rescued Kitten Nom Noms.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4IC29GhMrs

And finally, my favorite, Rescued Kitten Vigorously Plays

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDk3tlAPlBc

I still don't have a name for the kitten. I was thinking Beetle, because I found him under my beetle. But the SO says that any name will get shortened, and Beetle would become Beets (like Legolas became Lego in everyday talk). I don't like beets, so maybe I don't like Beetle. Bebop? Then we could call him Bee. I dunno. Suggestions, people!

E: he just used the litter box on his own for the first time! Yes! That's a major obstacle down.

I'll fix those videos (holy poo poo), and I want you to know we clean/vacuum weekly. The little guy is pulling everything apart. That cardboard was in the recycling shelf, the 2l bottle was in the recycling bin, the boxes weren't scattered around. He's destroyed both cat posts and the couch.

I dunno why you put "play" in quotes. Lego's clearly capable of hurting Beetle, and aware of it, but doesn't, instead just thwapping him when he goes too far. That's pretty much gentle play by cat standards.

That's true, but you need to know this is the most anger Lego has ever shown. By Lego standards, he is having a nuclear meltdown right then when he thwaps Beetle. I haven't gotten it across how Lego tolerates literally everything with a stoic face.

Maybe the kitten will actually get him to interact with other cats. He plays with people, but is pretty alone compared to the others.
