So, I've started replacing/adding to my set of Citadel paints. The local store convinced me to try Vallejo paints and holy crap are they amazing. I've heard very mixed opinions about their metallics though, are they as good as the basic paints?

They are straight up dogshit. P3 metallics aren't much better sadly.
In fact, besides the foundations I mentioned, and their washes, I would really only recommend citadel for metallics.

Whose washes? Citadel's? I'm really disappointed with the new ones. What's the current equivalent of the old Flesh Wash, BTW?

Does GW(FW?) still make the old-style chainfists? The new ones look like a crappy conversion instead of something to cut man-sized holes in starship doors with.

This snow is awesome (painted by A. Giraldez). Much better than the thick layer I usually see on IG/Warmachine bases. Process shown here if you don't want to skim through 40+ pages of his thread (I recommend reading everything though).

That's what we had to deal with back in the day. You should've seen the MkI Rhinos.

2nd ed. plastic miniatures were pretty much the worst in 40K history. And I had to pick this moment to start playing :suicide:

As for the tanks: Hull/treads were plastic, the main types (Chimera/Rhino/Leman Russ) were plastic, while the variants (later Predators, Demolishers, etc.) had metal replacement turrets/sponsons/whatever differed. It's as bad as it sounds...

Unless you're talking about the Imperial Steam Tank from WHFB. That piece of poo poo was all metal (and hollow).

Bought GW Purity Seal (don't blame me it wasn't my money and there wasn't anything else locally available) and I now have a frost giant. :what:

How to avoid/get rid of frosting? I know that painting it over with varnish helps, would another layer of GWPS help as well? I don't want to make it worse :ohdear: And what exactly causes it? Distance from can, temperature, moisture, spraying method?
I've also heard that GWPS is excellent when combined with another varnish - i.e. spray clear to protect the minis (I think the person mentioned Vallejo varnish), and then apply GWPS to matte it. Did anyone here try something like that and does it work? I don't have any other spray on hand. BTW, Vallejo matt varnish (bottle) doesn't work, GWPS frosts over it.

PS. To whoever told me here about wet palettes, love you man! :allears:

So guys I think I need some help. I've started in on my Khador Battlebox set and frankly I suck at this. I've read a ton of the guides around the web, I bought a few different brushes and the Khador paint set from P3. This is what I have so far but I just feel like this stuff looks so lovely. Help me painting thread:
You want: Black, metallic silver, and a brown wash (like GW ogryn flesh or devlan mud(?)). Wash the red parts with brown, it will help a lot. Resist the temptation to water the brown paint and wash with that, it tends to look awful (it can be done with black though). Paint metallic parts then wash them with thinned black wash or paint them black and drybrush metal on.

That's what I'd tell me at your stage. These don't look lovely, just unpainted. You'll be amazed how much a little washing/edge highlighting will do for these. They'll look A LOT better.

Edit: vvvvvvv could you detail what you mean by "Highlight back up to red"? I'm retarded and I'm not entirely sure how/what I'm supposed to be highlight on big, flat surfaces.

1: Brown wash on red will darken it a notch, so you can use the same color as the basic coat, at least for delicate highlights.

2. Shade the edges, convex surfaces (like the shield) and anything that stands out. Looks ridiculous, but works really well. Thin the paint more than for a normal coat so you can blend the edges of the highlight and give it a smooth transition.

The old washes required watering down, and were not super magic one-shot shading like the current citadel ones are. Now, basically that means that yes, you could easily have made Badab Black in 1991 or whatever, but it was an extra step that most people didn't know how to do. Now it's literally open pot, slosh on model, and the stuff looks a million times better than it used to.

At least they *could* be watered down, not like today when this poo poo is so thin you can't really use it the way you could the older ones. gently caress GW and their greed. Once I go through the pot I have (shouldn't take long) I'm switching to Vallejo. Gimme an old-style blue-cap Flesh Wash any day.

i was wondering if i would benefit alot from different/more brushes or should i just stick to one brush for now and work on more miniatures with my one brush until im extremely comfortable with it?

Get a second brush for details, also don't drybrush with a normal brush (you'll ruin it).
