Poor metallurgy back then. Metal strengths have changed over the years. These days you can have thin sheets of metal that has the strength of thicker sheets back in the 30s and 40s.

Umm, that's a VB or VC Holden Commodore. Built in Australia in the late 70s.

I am not surprised surprised it crushed like that, they were pieces of poo poo those old Commodores.

No. The Euro Escort AWD was based off a shortened Sierra AWD chassis. The US Escort is based off the Mazda 323 platform.

I'm not too sure whether that was a fail or whether the owner was doing that on purpose. The plastic bag taped over the broken front passenger window seems to point to the car being a piece of poo poo before getting thrashed like that. Plus there was a lack of "OH gently caress OH poo poo MAN YOUR DAD IS GOING TO BE PISSED" from the video.

You can't run small 4-strokes on steep hills for very long. The oil sloshes to one end of the crankcase and you get lube failure. I remember buying a LawnBoy lawnmower (2 stroke) as our old house had a steep front yard that claimed many 4 strokes.
You must have a place that even mountain goats find hard, cos I live on the side of a hill, on a slope, and only used 4 strokes. The reason they have usually died is rust in the base plates or snapping handles.

I don't think that engine was destined for a passenger ship, as a point of interest - they tend to use smaller 4 strokers rather than the big 2 strokes that container ships use.

The response from the emergency crew of that drag strip is a little slow. I'd thought that marshalls would be jumping over the fence to shut that car down.

Plus pretty lovely work that the driver has no emergency shutdowns for the engine.

I remember a couple of years back a van in a Melbourne suburb blew up due to a leaky acetylene tank. Luckily the driver wasn't in the vehicle when it did blow up.
