Been wondering the same thing: it's not like a camshaft transmits power to a gear on the other end, putting it under intense torsional force.

Most common cause of failure in metal, bending. Not saying that is the answer to this scenario, just something to consider.

What about nitrile gloves?

Nitrile are a good "base" glove. I wear a pair of either latex or nitrile under my acid gloves not only out of practice from work, but preventative measure in the event the acid gloves had a pinhole or other tear.

But how did this happen? I am not a fan of VW's engineering quality at all, but it doesn't seem to be damage which could have been inflicted by this jack.

I don't know if that damage is related, but it could be a result of the car falling backward and then left if it was a result. Typically people have hit something like a ditch to induce that sort of damage.

This is a fairly new Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel. The machine shop/tuner I go to had this dropped off a while ago. This is what he found inside. Apparently this is the 3rd engine Dodge has replaced for this guy. They are not going to cover this one.

Change your oil boys and girls!

Got sludge?

The guy that opened this engine said it's the worst he's ever seen. All the bearings are spun. The owner won't return his calls...

Do please share any future updates. That is just astonishing.

Not if you have something like an S13, then that will dent the frame rails.

If you would have placed it 2.5 inches further back, no dent...

The tree/response team were strategically placed to ensure fastest possible extraction of the driver from the wreckage. Now if only more tracks can be designed with these sorts of features integrated we'll usher in a new generation of racing safety ;)

Driver has broken bones but otherwise is okay, iirc.
