The way that one pad is gone and the other still has friction material indicates that something (a slide) is not moving the way it should. Yea, this happened to me. One pad was ground down past the friction material, and the other pad had a good bit on it. Turns out the caliper seized. Once I stopped being a pussy about fixing my car myself, I found poo poo beyond basic oil changed and pads fun.
