My Logitech G500 right click has been flaking out again lately with the ghost clicks that seem to plague the model if Google is any indication. I've taken it apart a couple of times and did the recommended repairs, in particular cleaning the contacts and using tape to shield against static buildup.
At this point the mouse is getting up there in age and I could probably do with a replacement. What out there is similar to the G500? I think most important to me is the 3 thumb buttons.

The G502 is a similar size with similar features and a much better sensor, although the thumb buttons are in a different configuration, there are still three of them.

I ended up returning the Rival 300 and got an Zowie EC1-A instead. This mouse feels great. The only downside is the fact that there appears to be no software to fine tune the DPI, so I'm forced to use 800 DPI instead of my preferred 700.

Here's my question though: Has it actually been proven that putting your Windows mouse sensitivity to 5/11 from 6/11 fucks up your mouse movement somehow? A lot of people are saying that it does, but are doing a very bad job at proving it. I need my sensitivity a bit lower than 800 DPI for Windows browsing and RTS stuff. As far as I know, a most FPS games use raw mouse input anyway.

if you can enable raw input, that's a solution as well

Alright, so I admit I was wrong about the G502. I picked it up with a GC just to see...and this thing blows the 602 out of the water with how drat smooth it is. I barely notice the cord for the most part even without a bungee.

I would *almost* tolerate the weight of the current g502 if it were wireless.

Almost. Because if it were of the "uses AAs" design, I would most certainly only ever run it with a single battery.

As it stands, I might actually prefer a lighter G502 rev 2 instead.

It's been very well received.

Just to give the devil their due, I still like Razer Deathadder, been using one for over five years. I've tried a Logitech G400S, I just like the feel of the Deathadder much more. One thing in particular is the middle mouse button, I use it a lot for games, and I like how it's big and taller on the Deathadder, feels great.

Are there any other good gaming mice that have that style of middle mouse button (the scroll wheel button)? So it's not low and sunken in feeling? And in general I'm good with just the two buttons on the left side, and don't need more than 1200 DPI. Also like wired. I agree the Razer synapse program is dumb though, and I know Razers can mess up, I've just had good luck and really dig the design.

edit: looking at the more recent Logitechs, it does look like the middle mouse buttons may be more up my alley in size/height.

Yeah, more than 6 skips pixels. It isn't really clear whether less than 6 does. I assume the talk about "non-integer" multiplier not influencing accuracy means sensitivity values less than 1.0, so anything below 6/11 would be fine.

One of the reasons I picked up an EC1-A was to get a more pronounced middle mouse button, similar to a Deathadder. The ergonomics are similar to a Deathadder too, it's just slightly bigger near the palm area.

Eh, it’s just a fancy non-gaming wireless mouse with surface “aesthetics,” whatever that means. I just noticed there was a wireless keyboard (newer Logitech k830) that had Bluetooth and a unifying dongle. I assumed the dongle plugged in somewhere on the keyboard for storage like how they usually plug into the bottom of a mouse but after digging I guess not

It would seem after about 8 years of working my G500 is starting to crap out. This morning my scroll wheel, while still working, isn't making the clicking that it should. I have also noticed over the last few months that right click has been finicky as well. Suggestions on replacement? I guess my only requirement is a clicky scroll wheel. This is for my desktop so wired is preferred as well.

They're pretty liberal with how they dole out replacements if there's any form of defect present in the model/revision you're requesting a replacement for. I've had 3 MX518's at one time in the past with only minor usb cable/sticky clicking issues.

What can I do? Adjusting cursor speed doesn't seem to be helping. I'm thinking a mouse pad with a bit more friction to it? Can I order OEM skates from Logitech somehow?

It's the combination of sIze and placement that's bad. The natural position for me has the back button slightly off the center of my thumb and the tip of my thumb resting on the side scroll wheel. That leaves the forward button in an awkward place where I can only press it with the side of my thumb.

Yes, it's actually a bit lighter and it will be cheaper and on significant sale often. They added the stupid modular weight system to the G903 for some reason, and even when empty the magnet lid adds bulk.

Had to switch to vertical mice recently, quite happy with my Anker and JTD mice (£10 & £17 respectively).

Good enough for me to play Path Of Exile but not sure they would be any good at CS:GO etc.

Vertical mice variety is quite limited.

I'm in this same boat, except with a G400. Seems like people are recommending a G502 now? I just want a simple corded mouse that doesn't suck. 90+% of my usage is normal web stuff. One that can handle the remaining 10% of Diablo 3 mouse torture for as long as the G400 did would be nice. The 502 seems pretty "gamer-y" which isn't really what I'm going for, but if it is the best option, I can live with it. Does it's mouse wheel click, or is in an infinite scroll? I prefer the click, but probably just because it's what I'm used to. I'm open to being convinced otherwise.

The only reason I'm considering "gaming" mice is that I don't want something that's cheap garbage, and I like the shape and extra 2 side buttons of the one I have.

The G502 has a button that lets you switch between a ratchety scroll wheel and free spin. It's slightly bigger than the G400 but it's pretty good. I switched from the G400S to the G502 for more buttons and to have the option for side to side scrolling by tilting the mousewheel. The only downsides to the mouse are that it's a little heavier than the G400 and the braided cord can feel a little stiff. I have mine in a mouse bungee and I don't notice it at all.

I went from the G400 to the 502 and I also really like it.

My only complaint is that the lateral wheel buttons are touchy. I would often middle mouse click and left middle mouse click with one press. I had to turn those off.

What's the life expectancy on gaming mice? This basic Logitech G303 I purchased mid-2015 has started phantom-double-clicking, which led to me learning today that this is a long-standing issue with Logitech mice in general. Do Corsair and Razer mice hold up better over the long-term? Or should I just resign myself to having to buy a replacement mouse every couple of years?

On that note, which of Corsair's mice would be similar to a G303? I control my mice with my fingers, mostly with my thumb and ring finger while my pointer and middle hover over the Left and Right buttons accordingly. My palm typically floats above the whole thing. I'm not sure if this is really what I prefer, or a grip I developed after years of too-small/too-light mice. I'm just not sure how best to size my hand to a mouse.
