People were using 400-800 DPI in the days of 1200x1024 monitors, it stands to reason DPI would need to increase proportionately to screen resolution.

The person didn't say whether they were gaming. A maximum of 1600 for the average person with a Logitech mouse is totally reasonable - I use 1200 on my G900 at 1080p.

I use 800 on a 1440p screen and it's perfectly fine, 1600 would be insanely twitchy. It's almost like different people like different settings

Somebody said the feet that come with the g502 are garbage and they weren't wrong. After a short amount of use on a hard pad they started scraping badly and i could feel the vibrations through the mouse. I pried them off and stuck a set of 0.6mm teflon replacements* on them and it glides beautifully now.

*https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hotline-Games-Logitech-G502-Mouse-Feet-2014-Edition-/121402762810 (the manufacturers ebay store)

One thing to watch for is the instructions on the package say to place them over the original feet but this is only true for the 0.28mm skates, also the original feet have a layer of black foam between the top layer and the adhesive sticker so make sure to get under that when peeling them off (a decent pair of tweezers will help). They come with iso wipes to remove any glue residue and a nice microfiber cloth to clean your glasses with, nerd.

The idea in fps games at least is to lower your dpi and raise your sens to match it. for example 0.8 sens @1600dpi becomes 3.2 sens @400dpi that way your 360 distance stays the same (12.5 inches in this example).
then swap it back to a higher dpi for desktop/mobas/mmos/rts or whatever, most mice let you set profiles for individual games so you don't need to gently caress around with dpi switch buttons all the time.

You have that exactly backwards.

The idea in games is to INCREASE your DPI while proportionally scaling down your sensitivity. To do the opposite results in pixel-skipping

Yeah I'd say its worth it. VERY comfortable. The material feels soft and premium. The buttons have nice tactile feedback. Weight is about perfect (for me). I love the button to switch the wheel between smooth and staggered scrolling. The tracking seems fine, I think this has been a solved problem for a long time now with high DPI gaming mice pandering to gamers placebo effect. I'm playing PUBG right now and its just fine. I don't notice any lag. I just won a game.

I love the feature for switching between paired computers with the touch of a button, so I can bring it along with my Surface laptop and then switch back to my desktop PC and then my Macbook.

And one last thing, it looks good in your desk, no pulsating RGB or gamer color bullshit, just a simple elegant industrial design.

It's 135g, which is a certifiable brick for reflex aiming. It would be sincerely surprising if it didn't use a variant of the office bluetrack laser they slapped in the IME, which means it's very liable to spin out for anyone using in the ballpark of 30cm/360. It would be interesting to hear if its wireless fidelity is anywhere near as good as Logitech's peak, however

I've got a Corsair Scimitar, it's one of those mice with tons of buttons on the side for MMO games. The first one I got I returned to the shop because the scroll wheel's resistance was uneven all the way around and would often double-click on pressing

The one I got back is better in that regard, but the left main button is harder to push than the right. The button will go through a few hundred clicks where it's only a little harder to push, then a few hundred clicks where it's much harder. If I put the mouse to my ear, I can hear a rubbing or scratching sound when I depress and lift the left button that's not audible with the right

I'm going to feel a bit dumb when I try to explain to the store staff the mouse clicks wrong, but on the other hand it's an expensive mouse. Apart from the faults, it's nice enough. The software's totally dorky

JB HiFi is very good with returns, they replaced the mouse a second time. They gave me a slightly different model. The first two mice had yellow trim, this one has black trim. While googling my issues, I ran across a rumour the yellow ones weren't as reliable as the blacks. I don't know how much is down to chance, but having gone through two faulty yellows before getting a working black, I wouldn't buy a yellow one again

...and we liked it that way.
I've got a couple of mouse maintenance questions for you guys.

1: How feasible is it to replace a microswitch for LMB or RMB?

Specifically a Logitech G402. The G402 is my favorite programmable mouse so far and since it is already discontinued, I'm nervous about wearing out the LMB because of the about of Logitech M570's that myself and my extended family have clicked into the dirt. I want to be able to replace the main microswitches when they start to doubleclick. I'm very good at soldering and desoldering, so as long as a compatible switch can be sourced and soldered, I think I can do it.

2: How do I clean my mice that have soft, rubberized coatings or what do I do when they start to get sticky and why do they get sticky?

My EC1 has been in a case for like two years and I pulled it out to find that the rubberized top felt sticky. I tried cleaning it with just a little soap and water but it didn't make a dent. I tried lens cleaning alcohol wipes, but that did nothing. I moved to wiping it with rubbing alcohol and that stripped the coating right off of the mouse. I feel like these coatings just break down after a few years, even if they aren't in sunlight. I won't buy any more rubberized mice, but I'd like to be able to clean the few that I already have without wiping the poo poo right off of them if I can .

Goo

Hello Drippy
Lots of people replace switches. It requires piercing (or replacing) the feet on the underside of the mouse, unscrewing a few screws, removing the main PCB from the bottom case, desoldering the existing switch, and putting in a new one before reassembling the entire thing. G402 was not designed for internal components to be replaced, so it's not difficult but not easy (assuming you're competent/comfortable with soldering). There's probably a step-by-step guide somewhere.

G402 is discontinued in the Americas, but there are still new units in the sales channel. It is still in production for Europe and Asia.

I had a cheapish shogun bros mouse and the (extremely thin) rubberized coating started turning brown. I figured it was dirt and tied to gently clean it with warm soapy water which stripped it right off just as effectively as iso :/ .The combination of
heat, moisture and sunlight pretty much rotted it clean off.

Dis is amazing!
I gotta try dis!

I got one of the MX Master mice over crazy shopping weekend for $50 and I find a lot of its features a little bit weird. Unlike the tilt to horizontal scroll which I'm used to from the MX1000, G500 and G502, it has a thumb scroll bar for horizontal scrolling. It's different and that's fine, but the default bind has you roll up/clockwise to go left, which seems totally backwards. You can invert it in the software, luckily. Also the thumb rest contains a gesture button which can be pressed to combine with moving the mouse in a direction to do a function. Kind of a nice way to add more functionality to the mouse without more buttons, but I didn't even know it was there until I looked in the software since it doesn't seem like anywhere a button should be. It's also a slow way to access something so it's definitely not targeted to gaming but productivity. The MX Master is also bigger than the G502 and feels a little bit heavier (no doubt because it's got a battery, microcontroller and transcievers for BT and 2.4ghz unifying receivers, battery charging circuit, etc).

It's an interesting mouse because of some of these features, but I can't help but wonder if it will end up being one of those mice people grow to love because of them and then find them missing on a future iteration. It seems very pro-sumer targeted due to the multiple device syncing abilities and because its successor has software to support a Mouse Without Borders or Synergy style multiple PC control feature.

I think if I did more CAD work and less gaming I'd probably be happier with it but for me it's just going to end up a work laptop mouse. I got it for myself mostly out of curiosity and also because I was considering one for my father as a Xmas gift, but he didn't really like it when I had him try this one. I think it's just too big compared to his N50 Lenovo wireless mouse.

I have currently a corsair m65 pro, and it causes extreme pain in the tendons leading to my thumb. I have relatively large hands, so those crappy logitech wireless 10 dollars did the same. I use to have a bloody hand gaming mouse that did fine until the wires frayed and broke.

I'm looking for 2+ buttons where thumb is. Additional macro buttons are cool, but the razer 12 button crap is crap.

I've thought of the mx master since it's supposedly ergonomic in design, but I don't know how quality the laser in it is, since I'm accustomed to an optical laser mouse.
