What's a good gaming mouse that doesn't loving squeal? My Logitech G500 has started to emit a horribly annoying high-pitched sound and it appears to be a common problem with this model. I'm pretty happy with it and I've had it for a few years, but if this persists I'll have to replace it with something that, you know, doesn't squeal.

Im also super sensitive to electronic humms and buzzing.
My logitech g pro does not do it. The sensor for their top end wireless mice is supposedly extremely power efficient and this may contribute to the overall quietness.

It also the bar none best gaming mouse i have ever used. My stats went up noticeably from my previous deathadder chroma.

That looks cool indeed, but I do have a metal desk - won't this cause issues? I've also read that the little door thingy on the bottom of the G-Pro is magnetic, wouldn't it 'stick' to the surface of my desk? This is more complicated than I thought.

as long as the mousepad is on top of the desk there would not be any blocking of the signal from the mousepad to the mouse. The magnet is aligned on a horizontal plane so there should be very little attraction downward. The magnet is also far too weak and deep in the mouse far from the bottom and the mousepad too thick. There are YT reviews where a metal desk is used and no issues are mentioned.

Its just like a wireless phone charging pad but much larger and lower output. Those have no issues with being on a metal desk either. I have been using it underneath my jumbo mousepad and the signal gets through just fine

If it's gaming zowie is just about the only universally liked mouse brand without some major problem. Razer and Logitech are both fine. They just sell so much product that the sample size of defective ones seems bigger. If you are going wireless, the g pro is the only lightweight low latency low power draw mouse on the market.

Personally I don't like steelseries based on my personal bad experience with repeated defects on the same device through multiple rmas. Also you can't really find the mouse you like and stick with it over the years because they keep overhauling their design

If you just want a cheap high performance mouse there are many good options. Even no name mice with a 3360 sensor will perform with the best mice. The 3360 is the same sensor you will find in many high performance mice.
I have used the https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Performance-PixArt-Precision-Applications/dp/B071J9JC6S/ and would recommend it to anyone who just wants high value. It doesnt need any special drivers and the DPI is adjustable with a button on the bottom. You can go even more barebones down to like $20 with no lights or finer dpi level. The cheap stuff will feel cheap but the performance is the same.

make sure you sand the edges so that they are properly beveled in the correct direction otherwise the edge will drag. Cutting the face with a knife will usually do it, just dont just from the backing side or you will introduce a jagged edge on the working surface.

My K/D has markedly improved by at least 15% over the razer deathadder which I have been using as my primary mouse in some form over the last 8 years.

The skates are very large and work well with most mousepads but they really perform with a quality tightly woven high end pad.

The vast majority of professional players dont use grips or change the feet for the g pro. For mice that have known lovely feet with a long break-in like finalmouse, sure maybe

I think a lot of that stuff is trying to find excuses for why they arent good rather than trying to improve. Are the feet sliding well? Then dont replace them. Are you able to comfortably hold it? then dont add grips.

Well there are differences in materials (e.g. fabric vs hard plastic or even metal,) thickness (which may or may not be an issue for your setup,) and size (from like 4x6" portable to full 1x4' or whatever to go under both your mouse and keyboard.) On top of that there are RGB and wireless charging options. So a "gaming" mousepad isn't necessarily "better," but there are definitely options to consider.

Most "gaming" mousepads are just the same as any cloth one you can find at an office supply store but with gamer branding. Once it gets dirty its junk and you can never clean it well without loosening the weave.

Purpose built gaming ones make a real difference with tighter cloth weaves and lower friction threads.
This is my current favorite, its glass impregnated cloth
https://www.artisan-jp.com/fx-shidenkai-eng.html
Its extremely low friction, I can lightly flick the mouse and it slides across the whole surface. The soft foam core gives it very sharp stops for flick shots when your hand is on the mouse putting weight down.
The feeling is similar to a hard plastic one but because of the soft core you dont get the super jittery crosshair when playing high sens.
Its really the best of both types, you get low friction and control but it does wear out faster than standard cloth.

I put it over the powerplay mat and it charges fine
