I've noticed a lot of people in this thread not bothering to use it, but I use it frequently to control foobar and OpenPandora (the wheel is bound to play-pause / next / previous keyboard shortcuts in SetPoint)

I guess I'm out of luck if both my MXs die.

Also, I just bind the scroll click to middle mouse. Smartshift is good enough for me.

I do exactly that with the thumb wheel for most programs. When I'm gaming I bind the wheel to weapon switching, but that's it.

I bind the magnification button to middle click, but I don't use it very often. I find the wheel click to be far too stiff to be a good button.
