This is a little late of a reply, but to be fair the options you gave are 100% different from his 'taste' in music. Call his selection bad-posting or whatever, but I think you could have given him some better suggestions to look towards.

Steve Aoki to Nina Kraviz is like suggesting to someone who loves playing football to try playing ice hockey.

edit: Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree here, but I feel like a lot of new posters in here get shut out by some of the 'bitter vets' in this thread.

yes yes yes you are very right (no sarcasm) and yes i am bitter (no sarcasm) (except that's kind of a weak analogy because I love both football and ice hockey.)

I think I'm just trying to help maybe refine their taste that's all mostly because I think Steve Aoki is garbage.

But you're right - maybe I should try better to think of maybe a middle ground in which someone can enjoy something because there is something in whatever I can come up with that hints both at Steve Aoki and at something different but is still enjoyable to me.

Edit: Maybe Scuba is a bit closer than Nina Kraviz - I think Scuba has a pretty wide appeal, especially with some of his newer stuff and newer mixes where he's trying to aim for some big room type stuff without losing that basement type of feel.

Hey we can talk about good music in this thread too, here's some of my favourite tunes from the last couple of months (apologies for any reposts):

Duke Dumont's been on a roll lately with some dope releases on Turbo, he might be more palatable to some of the greener posters here:

Street Walker:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gt69do0PU-c

The Giver:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoyDZD7e6Us

Bicep are two dons from Ireland who run an awesome blog (http://www.feelmybicep.com) and just started a new label, with one of my favourite tunes of the year being their first release:

Vision of Love:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACZ6G3fJvKs

Don't (f. Omar Odyssey) (Aus Music)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhphp8l03us

And in case anyone missed it, Clone put out an amazing 12" from Geeeman(Alias of Gerd) earlier this year, two tracks of jackin' Chicago house:

Well said and I only speak from experience. I was that cute newbie and bounced corners around much worse music than Steve Aoki. That is until I realized how terrible he was in comparison to some of the great electro/house/etc legends.

And with that being said, you do post some of the best music in this thread; I hope you aren't; [I know you wont] be discouraged from posting more great music.

This is a cover of a Kid Creole & The Coconuts/Coati Mundi song. It's cool to see someone carrying the torch, because even though they show up on ZE's Mutant Disco comps, they're still sorely underappreciated.

The one Kid Creole put out is more or less a dub version:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LAJQMxBGjI

On Coati Mundi's solo album, he released an absolutely insane full vocal version that I love because it takes such a goofy kitchen-sink approach to the lyrics: they reference Boy George, Reagan, the Addams family, Catholic confessionals, etc.

Unrelated: A couple of goofy old Halloween-appropriate house tracks:

:spooky: Tyree - I Fear The Night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBc4kDiJXp8

Bang't has been one of my favorites of this year. Here are some more house tunes that I've had on rotation recently:

Harmony Funk - Can't Let You Go http://youtu.be/XIgYj5HMY0s
Audiojack feat Kevin Knapp - Stay Glued (FCL Weemix) http://youtu.be/8TpDPpCZwvE
Gerry Read - Bozza http://youtu.be/Hw-f-PwvOpY
Axel Boman - Purple Drank http://youtu.be/ywJlK8P1AiQ
Chaos In The CBD - Slab http://youtu.be/idvtFZ0HPZQ

I just discovered an old Spencer Kincy (aka Gemini) mix that could serve as a great primer for someone just getting into 90s house. Also the mixing is simply incredible: http://www.5chicago.com/audio/spencer-kincy/live-at-deep-in-the-flowers.html

Edit: Aw poo poo, I almost missed Tyree - I Fear the Night. GREAT pick. Let's keep the good tunes flowing.

You know what, I'm getting sick and tired of this "real dude" attitude. He's an entertainer, not a DJ. He goes out there to make sure you have a good time. Who cares if he just plays a CD and acts? Everyone there is having a great time. If he was actually mixing, how would he be able to jump off of the stage onto a trampoline or ride a dingy around the crowd?

Aoki has moved past the point of being clowned on I think. He's just a dude who hams it up for the crowd and has fun. If it was like 3 or 4 years ago, I'd say it was fertile ground, but now I just don't even care. Still, seeing him gently caress up his jumping was funny.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those underground purists that thinks SHM is ruining electronic music. I just think its important for people to know.
You want to go to a show and have Aoki throw a cake in your face? By all means!
I just think that most people who are into his poo poo think he's (among others) some sort of god DJ who can stage dive between mixes. Or even worse, think that mixing doesn't require that much attention.

I've been to more than a few shows that are just pretty lights and champagne, and there is nothing wrong with it if that's your thing. Just understand that there is much more to electronic music and DJing. I don't think anyone in this thread with a knowledge of electronic music takes this dude seriously, but some of the greener posters might.

To be honest I rag on people with "real dude attitude" more than I do fans of this stuff because they are just stuck up and think people need to be told how to have fun. Just be educated.

I went to Hard Summer this year; it was terrible. The last Hard show I went to was in 2010. It has REALLY gone down hill over the past couple of years.

-1.5 hours to get into the venue (LA Historic State Park is a shithole).

-They shut down the beer gardens at 11pm. Even if you had a VIP pass, you could not grab a brew.

-The crowd was totally different. In 2010, I remember a decent split of really chill chicks and dudes. People were very polite (that actually was what attracted me most to Hard and techno in general). This year consisted of mostly brostep brahs, frat guys, and incredibly rude chicks literally rushing and pushing people aside in crowds to get to the front. A fight broke out next to me during one dj set. Me and my buddies had to pull one of the girls in our group away from some rear end in a top hat in the crowd threatening to hit her. gently caress that.

Hard was incredible during its 2008-2010 run, but that was well before electro went mainstream. I don't know if it is a problem with Hard, a problem with Americans going absolutely apeshit over new music scenes, or a combination of both.
