I'm not going to dispute the guy is a dick in real life, but god drat if Strobe isn't loving fire. And yeah the new Skrillex EP is ridiculous. I think people would be more receptive to him if he didn't look like well like a 7th grade gothic lesbian.

Is there a logical step forward from here to make as far as house music goes You'll like the album I mentioned in my last post (Nero - Welcome Reality). Slightly different but similar aesthetic, big drops and whatnot.

I know Mr. Mau5 isn't well liked by many here, but Feed Me has been added to all 3 Boston shows. Certainly we can all agree Feed Me is awesome.

Gamest Mook posted:I think this argument is a little tiresome. Why is more people necessarily better? Why do we need ambassadors to the mainstream? I'm not an elitist; I don't believe in going out of your way to avoid attention or exclude people. But I don't think bringing enlightenment to people is necessarily praiseworthy. There is something to be said for having to find it for yourself. I think his point wasn't that having more people is necessarily better. It just increases the chances that one of the kids that got into the music because of Skrillex or whoever might go on to create something great as a result.

Gamest Mook posted:In that case it's probably exactly things like that James Blake interview that will turn Skrillex fans onto the fact that there's other stuff out there. Probably. But I also think James Blake is overestimating his "undergroundness". His poo poo's on Entourage for gods sakes.

Caught Feed Me, Excision, Tommy Lee, and Deadmau5 at HoB last night. Great performances by all, but far and away the worst crowd I've ever seen at a show.

GZA Genius posted:Just listened to Justices album all the way through and holy hell what a forgettable album. Doesn't really do anything for me. Bummer. It's a solid album but the problem is that I can't help comparing it to Cross. It's definitely got its own sound and I think it would be fun as hell to see performed live.

Nagget posted:I had the displeasure of covering all 6 of Deadmau5's shows at Roseland Ballroom and the crowd was absolutely pathetic. Tons of tweens dressed in neon taking way too much MDMA, throwing up in garbage cans, passing out left and right. Every time I'm at a show like that (ID Festival comes to mind) I really think that EDM has reached its peak and it is going to come crashing down on itself in a great big ball of neon fire. It was probably the worst crowd I've ever seen at any show ever. Fratstars starting fights every 10 seconds, people in the front row sitting there just resting on the barracade not even into it, and dudes just slow dancing with their girlfriends during Excision's set like they were at senior prom. And I'm pretty sure I saw a clan of furries with light gloves. I like the college crowd at places like ID Festival where it's a benevolent crowd that are into it but this was another story.

Other notable names are Glitch Mob, Pretty Lights, Thievery Corporation, and Porter Robinson. I can't contain my excitement. I'm supremely jealous about all of that. I've seen most of those acts with the exception of Porter Robinson, who I'd kill to see live. I've been digging this tune lately.
